Napoleon: Total War is the sixth position in the series, belonging to one of the most recognized series of turn-based strategy / RTS in the world, which is Total War. This time the action of the game takes us back to the Napoleonic era, right in the middle of a storm that sweeps across nineteenth-century Europe. Napoleon: Total War is divided into three campaigns: Italian (1796 - 1797), Egyptian (1798 - 1800) and European (1805 - 1812). The game begins with the campaign in northern Italy and from that moment on, we go through the next phases - first the rise of the importance of the French republic until the end of the empire. We have a chance to play the role of Napoleon Bonaparte himself or one of the leaders of the anti-Napoleonic coalition, which included Russia, Austria, Prussia and England. Starting the game with General Napoleon Bonaparte, we journey through Italy and Egypt, following the fate of a fearless leader, to reach the invasion led by the French Emperor on Moscow. We are given a chance to face the problems he faced and understand the decisions he had to make to win. The game also allows you to take part in several historical battles, including clashes at Austerlitz, Ligny, Borodino, Waterloo, Lodi, Arcole, the Battle of the Pyramids and Trafalgar.
Napoleon: Total War is no longer as revolutionary as Empire, but it has all the proven solutions contained in it. We are talking mainly about the possibility of fighting both on land and at sea in a full 3D view, detailed maps of each campaign and extended diplomatic mechanisms. The game also offers a number of new solutions that make the fun much more attractive. Diplomatic options have been significantly expanded. We can now make demands on other nations and demand that they break off a given alliance, declare war on someone, or introduce an embargo. The army feeding system was also added. When we force our soldiers to tear through harsh terrain, soldiers start to starve. In extreme cases, we can lose an entire army in this way. Spies now play a key role, not only collecting information about enemy armies, but also sabotaging and delaying their march. During the battles, generals also gained a new meaning, who can additionally cheer up soldiers or gather them into punitive units when they try to flee the battlefield. The artificial intelligence has also been significantly improved in every aspect of the game. During the campaign, computer-controlled nations behave much more logically. However, during battles, defeating enemies is more problematic than in Empire, and our units respond to orders much faster and more efficiently. Naval skirmishes were enriched with ship repairs during the battle itself. In total, 322 unique units and more technically advanced weapons are available to the players. The character of the main character was thrown into the fray - as Napoleon always took an active part in the battle, also in the game leading his soldiers among the ranks raises their morale. Particularly interesting and valuable is the reward received for accomplishing important things faster than Napoleon actually did. Graphically, you can see progress since Empire: Total War. Buildings on the battlefield have been improved, the surroundings and details such as various balloons and clouds have been reproduced very accurately. The producer also tried to have many more different faces of the soldiers than in the previous parts. The seasons change and the weather, which has an impact on the course of fights, e.g. rain adversely affects gunpowder. The whole thing is very realistic.
