Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia is the first of several spin-offs of the Total War series, developed by Creative Assembly studio. The authors focus on historical periods and events that are too small for full-fledged parts of the series. Like all other Total War games, the production appeared on the PC platform.
Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia takes players to the British Isles from the 9th century AD. The action of the game begins in 878, when the troops led by King Alfred the Great repelled the attack of the Danes led by King Guthrumem in the Battle of Ethandun. Relative stabilization followed these developments for the first time in eight decades.
The peace did not last long, however, as as a result the kings of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland began competing over whose rule the Islands would unite; to make matters worse, the Nordic warlords quickly joined the fight. Our task is to take one side of the conflict and lead it to victory.
Released on the PC platform Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia draws handfuls from the achievements of the previous installments of the series. Despite the fact that in terms of size, the production corresponds to the standalone expansion for Total War: SHOGUN 2, entitled Samurai Twilight, here we find a number of elements characteristic of the series. The gameplay is therefore divided into two stages - while on the strategic map, we make subsequent moves in turn-based mode (taking care of the economy of our territories and diplomatic relations with our neighbors and conquering subsequent areas), spectacular battles during which we take direct control of the army, in real time. Thrones of Britannia is not as extensive as the full-fledged installments of the Total War series. For example, there were no spy units or historical battles popular among players. As compensation, Creative Assembly made sure that the five major factions in the game were significantly different from each other, and to command them required a different approach to strategy. For example, the kings of the Great Viking Army must keep both their invading army and their conquered Anglo-Saxon subjects happy, and the goal of Gealian chiefs is to obtain the legendary Destiny Stone.
