Expeditions: Conquistador is a cRPG game with an action set in the years 1518-1520. The player takes control of a team of Spanish conquistadors, whose task is to explore and conquer the territories of central America. The authors focused on historical realism, and the game world was developed on the basis of authentic historical maps of Mexico and Hispaniola (that is how the areas of today's Haiti were called at that time).
The plot not only focuses on the adventure aspects, but also covers the political side of the time, full of conspiracies, secret pacts and betrayals. The campaign is largely non-linear and forces you to make decisions with serious consequences on a regular basis. We will decide for ourselves whether we will start diplomatic relations with the Aztecs, or we will bring about the collapse of their empire by force.
The game offers a turn-based combat system with a wealth of tactical options. During the battles, we can, among others make use of the advantages of flank attacks, set traps, erect barricades and use cover. In addition, each team member has his own personality, and an important role, both during the clashes and in other parts of the campaign, is played by the morale of subordinates, shaped by our own decisions. If we ignore their needs and suggestions, they may even start a rebellion.
Characters are rewarded with experience points for their achievements, which we then spend on developing their characteristics and buying new skills. The game is additionally diversified by the system of random events and the mechanics of trading with the natives you meet.
