The production belongs to the sub-genre of platform games known as metroidvania. This means that players travel around a vast maze-like two-dimensional game board that contains tons of hidden passages and shortcuts, surprises and secrets. Some of the locations are unavailable until our character receives a power or skill that allows us to open a closed passage or solve a puzzle guarding it. Ori has an extensive skill tree, which we unlock by gaining experience and reaching the next key fragments of the plot.
