Eisner Award Winner for Best Publication for Early Readers “Visually brilliant. . . . Convey[s] the power of thrift, collective action, and community-building.” — Publishers Weekly (Starred Review) Tie on your apron! Roll up your sleeves! Pans are out, oven is hot, the kitchen’s all ready! Where do we start? With a garden abundant with produce, a joyfully chaotic kitchen, and a friendly meal shared at the table, Our Little Kitchen is a celebration of full bellies and looking out for one another. You can almost smell the veggies on the stove! Ingredients and steps for making vegetable soup precede a swirl of steam that leads into an introduction to a small community kitchen. Here a diverse group of friends, family, and neighbors unite to prep the meal with “what we’ve got, what we’ve grown, what we’ve kept, been given, and bought!” The group prepares soup, chili, apple crumble, salad, warm bread, and more. The sounds of the kitchen “sizzle, chop, glug, slice, peel, trim, toss, splash, squish.” Helpers serve as neighbors wait and anticipate the joy of sharing in a time of need. The book’s bright, full-color illustrations, speech bubbles, simple words, varying perspectives, and exciting action encourage young readers to jump from page to page. Bonus materials include recipes and an author’s note about the volunteering experience that inspired the book.

Tally Tuttle Turns into a Turtle (Class Critters #1) - Kathryn Holmes - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

Tally Tuttle Turns into a Turtle (Class Critters #1) - Kathryn Holmes - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

Kathryn Holmes’s Tally Tuttle Turns into a Turtle begins the humorous and heartfelt Class Critters chapter book series about a second-grade class where each kid turns into an animal for a day—featuring illustrations by Ariel Landy. It’s Tally Tuttle’s first day of second grade, and she’s so nervous that she feels like she ate butterflies for breakfast! On top of moving to a new town and new school where she doesn’t know anyone, everyone starts teasing her when her full name, Tallulah, is revealed during roll call. She just wishes she could retreat into a shell. . . . Then all of a sudden, the desks and her classmates around her seem enormous, and Tally is shell-shocked to discover that she’s actually turned into a turtle! She’d heard that Mrs. Norrell’s class was special, but she hadn’t expected this. Tally likes having a shell to hide in, but there are other parts of turtle life—like the fear of being stepped on—that aren’t exactly ideal. And once she’s tired of hiding, how can she change back into a girl? Tally will have to forge her own transformation back to herself and come out of her shell—both literally and figuratively! In this chapter book series, Mrs. Norrell’s second grade classroom has magic that allows kids to transform into animals to learn important life lessons. Each book will follow a different kid and their animal transformation, and will include fun natural science facts about the featured animal in the back matter. Includes a Sneak Peek at the second Class Critters book, David Dixon’s Day as a Dachshund

Hirschfeld's Sondheim - David Leopold - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

Hirschfeld's Sondheim - David Leopold - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

For the first time ever, Al Hirschfeld’s iconic art of Stephen Sondheim’s musicals are made available, packaged in an affordable, oversized removable poster book featuring texts by Bernadette Peters and Ben Brantley Al Hirschfeld drew his first Sondheim show in 1957— West Side Story . Since then, in his iconic, illustrative style, Hirschfeld captured almost all of Sondheim’s Broadway shows and several films featuring the composer’s songs and scripts. Sondheim was a Hirschfeld collector, acquiring drawings directly from the artist and through his friends and collaborators like Hal Prince. In his last interview just five days before his death on November 26, 2021, the New York Times ran a photo of Sondheim in his home with an image of Hirschfeld’s Putting it Together in the background. This first volume in a series of deluxe Hirschfeld poster books, Hirschfeld’s Sondheim , contains 25 of his art drawn from life before the opening night of each of Sondheim’s productions. Hirschfeld’s images capture the essence of the performances even better than the photographs of the shows. All of Sondheim’s best-known plays are included— West Side Story , Follies , A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum , Sweeney Todd , Merrily We Roll Along, and Sunday in the Park with George —in 25 ready-to-frame, removable art prints. All images will be scanned from the archives of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation. On the reverse side—rare, ancillary images from the archives, as well as an introduction by Bernadette Peters, an essay by Ben Brantley, and text by David Leopold, Hirschfeld’s archivist and creative director of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation.
