Service design is a holistic, co-creative, and user-centered approach to understanding user behavior for creating or refining services. Use this LITA Guide to help as a toolkit for implementing service design studies and projects at all types of libraries. It begins with directions for how to create a service design team and assembling a user working group for your library and move through the various phases in a service design journey. The authors outline the tools required to gain insights into user behavior and expectation and how to diagnose the difference between a symptom and a problem users face when interacting within the library environment. The guide features a series of examples that the service design team can use to learn how to work with library staff and patrons to find out what current user experience is like and how to refine services to better meet user expectations. Learn how to:·create service blueprints - to outline the service delivery model and understand pain points and places where services can be refined·create customer journey maps - to better understand the actual paths taken by users to fulfill a service. ·find the right tool for the situation so you can make an informed decision on usage·create an ethnographic program of your own tailored to your library environment·understand how assessment and post-implementation is key to any project’s success ·create a service design plan that fits your library and patronageThis book is a toolkit, not a step-by-step, paint-by-the-numbers book. It is geared towards libraries of all types and sizes and will provide tools that any library can use and ideas for developing a service design project that fits within the means of your library so that your project will be meaningful, useful, and sustainable. While several books have been written on how to implement service design, this book will be the first to explain how to practice service design in libraries.

How to Design and Write Web Pages Today - Karl Stolley - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing Plc - Plusbog.dk

This unique guidebook lays the foundations of contemporary mobile-first, responsive web design, offering writers, designers, and those who teach them a complete and up-to-date approach to web design. Are you looking to learn web design the right way? Not by using an off-the-shelf software package, but by creating customized sites in a way that gives you full control? This guide provides that ability even if you have no previous coding skills or experience. One of the critical challenges of modern web design is being able to write for the mobile web to reach those increasingly mobile-connected users. How to Design and Write Web Pages Today addresses this key objective while also explaining how to deliver improved experiences for users of desktop-style devices based on the constraints and challenges of mobile design. This user-friendly tutorial begins with background information to enable a better understanding of the web and its purpose and function as well as how to generate material for a website. Readers then learn about the three overarching concerns in the short- and long-term viability and usefulness of websites: accessibility, usability, and sustainability. Key technologies and techniques for web design—such as the HTML and CSS languages to the conceptual foundations of grid-based design—are next, followed by a thorough explanation of how to publish a site on the open web, from creating a viable site architecture to automating the publishing of content to the open web.

Representation and Institutional Design - Rebekah L. Herrick - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing Plc - Plusbog.dk

An enduring question for most nations has been how to best represent their citizens and their needs. This is a complex issue as there is no universally accepted definition of good representation. Representation and Institutional Design addresses the issues of institutions and representation by examining how variation in institutional design can affect many aspects of how legislators represent their constituents. It does so by examining the relationships between legislative design (electoral laws, term limits, professionalism, and district size and magnitude) and many aspects of representation (symbolic, service, and policy representation, as well as legislators'' incentives to represent). A key finding is that each aspect of professionalism has a unique set of effects on representation. Legislators with staff have closer relationship with their constituents than others. Legislators with other legislative resources engage in more symbolic and service representation but not policy representation. And legislators in institutions with greater capacity were similar to others in their representative style. Findings also indicate that term limits weaken relationships between legislators and constituents and electoral laws, and district size and magnitude have some but limited effects. This is an important study not only because of the importance of representation but also because of the dearth of research on how institutional design affects representation in state legislatures.

An Introduction to Emergency Exercise Design and Evaluation - Robert Mccreight - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing Plc - Plusbog.dk

The fourth edition of An Introduction to Emergency Exercise Design and Evaluation is designed to help practitioners and students of emergency management understand various aspects of the exercise design process. It provides a unique perspective since it is the first edition published since the COVID-19 pandemic. It arrives in 2023 looking back almost four years on the issues and challenges emergency managers faced on the threshold of a new decade in 2020. Since then, the country has faced the COVID pandemic along with at least twenty-four weather related disasters that killed and injured hundreds. Emergency exercises are an important component of an organization''s emergency planning and preparedness, yet few emergency managers and practitioners have training in designing or evaluating them. In this updated and practical handbook, the author explains the essential elements and core principles of exercise design and evaluation. This fourth edition of An Introduction to Emergency Exercise Design and Evaluation focuses on natural disasters and technological emergencies that occur in communities of any size. It provides emergency planners, public health professionals, emergency managers, police officers, and fire fighters with an in-depth look at exercise design issues and an accessible guide to designing and evaluating emergency exercises. This edition includes a new material on what to expect in emergency management through 2030.
