Market Trading Tactics - Daryl Guppy - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

A veteran hockey writer takes on hockey culture and the NHL––addressing the games most controversial issue Whether its on–ice fist fights or head shots into the glass, hockey has become a nightly news spectacle––with players pummeling and bashing each other across the ice like drunken gladiators. And while the NHL may actually condone on–ice violence as a ticket draw, diehard hockey fan and expert Adam Proteau argues against hockeys transformation into a thuggish blood sport. In Fighting the Good Fight, Proteau sheds light on the many perspectives of those in and around the game, with interviews of current and former NHL stars, coaches, general managers, and league executives, as well as medical experts. One of the most well–known media figures on the hockey scene today, famous for his funny, feisty observations as a writer for the Toronto Star and The Hockey News and commentator on CBC radio and TV, Adam Proteau is also one of the few mainstream media voices who is vehemently anti–fighting in hockey. Not only is his book a plea to the games gatekeepers to finally clamp down on the runaway violence that permeates the sport even at its highest level, he offers realistic suggestions on ways to finally clean the game up. • Includes interviews with medical experts on head injuries and concussions, as well as with other members of the media • The author not only wages an attack on the value of fighting in hockey––but also on the establishment hockey culture Covering the most polarizing issue in hockey today, Fighting the Good Fight gives hockey fans and sports lovers everywhere a reason to stamp their feet and whistle––at a rare display of eloquence and common sense. Climate Dynamics - - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

Climate Dynamics - - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 189. Climate Dynamics: Why Does Climate Vary? presents the major climate phenomena within the climate system to underscore the potency of dynamics in giving rise to climate change and variability. These phenomena include deep convection over the Indo-Pacific warm pool and its planetary-scale organization: the Madden-Julian Oscillation, the monsoons, the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, and the low-frequency variability of extratropical circulations. The volume also has a chapter focusing on the discussion of the causes of the recent melting of Arctic sea ice and a chapter devoted to the discussion of the causes of recent changes in the frequency and intensity of tropical cyclones. On each topic, the basic material of climate dynamics is covered to aid the understanding of the forefront research, making the volume accessible to a broad spectrum of readers. The volume highlights include - - Diabatic and nonlinear aspects of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation - - Causes of sea ice melting in the Arctic - - Impact of global warming on tropical cyclone activity - - Origins of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation - - Causes of climate variability of Asian monsoons - The volume will be of particular interest to graduate students and young researchers in atmospheric and oceanic sciences and related disciplines such as geology and geography. The book will also be a good read for those who have a more general interest in the Earth''s climate and why it varies.

Paleobiology and Paleoenvironments of Eocene Rocks - - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

Paleobiology and Paleoenvironments of Eocene Rocks - - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Antarctic Research Series, Volume 76. Michael K. Brett-Surman, George Washington University, observed that, "being a paleontologist is like being a coroner except all the witnesses are dead and all the evidence has been left out in the rain for 65 million years." In the study of paleontology in Antarctica it could also be added that, if not left out in the rain, most of the evidence remains buried beneath several thousand feet of ice. Elucidating the geologic history of the Antarctic continent will always be plagued with this problem. Nonetheless, numerous clever means have been used to extract as much information as is possible, and as presented in this volume. In this light, one of the most intriguing time intervals in Antarctic history is the Eocene Epoch. During this time, the climatic conditions deteriorated rapidly from the so-called "Greenhouse" conditions that dominated Earth's conditions from mid-Mesozoic time through the early Cenozoic to the "Icehouse" conditions that have dominated the climate since that time. Unfortunately, the record of Eocene rocks on the continent is sparse. On the Antarctic Peninsula, specifically on Seymour Island, a robust record of Eocene rocks and fossils has provided virtually all the information we possess about this time interval. Thus the discovery and description of Eocene erratic boulders in morainal deposits in the McMurdo Sound region provides only the second site on the entire continent where we can study the paleontology of this time interval. In all likelihood, the description of erratics containing fossils from any other place in the world would warrant little study and would attract even less attention. However, when most of the vast area of Antarctica lies beneath ice and when clues to the nature of the crust of that part of the continent can be extracted only from study of erratics, the discovery carries with it some excitement.

Analytics the Right Way - Joe Sutherland - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

CLEAR AND CONCISE TECHNIQUES FOR USING ANALYTICS TO DELIVER BUSINESS IMPACT AT ANY ORGANIZATION Organizations have more data at their fingertips than ever, and their ability to put that data to productive use should be a key source of sustainable competitive advantage. Yet, business leaders looking to tap into a steady and manageable stream of “actionable insights” often, instead, get blasted with a deluge of dashboards, chart-filled slide decks, and opaque machine learning jargon that leaves them asking, “So what?” Analytics the Right Way is a guide for these leaders. It provides a clear and practical approach to putting analytics to productive use with a three-part framework that brings together the realities of the modern business environment with the deep truths underpinning statistics, computer science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The result: a pragmatic and actionable guide for delivering clarity, order, and business impact to an organization’s use of data and analytics. The book uses a combination of real-world examples from the authors’ direct experiences—working inside organizations, as external consultants, and as educators—mixed with vivid hypotheticals and illustrations—little green aliens, petty criminals with an affinity for ice cream, skydiving without parachutes, and more—to empower the reader to put foundational analytical and statistical concepts to effective use in a business context.
