During the last few years, copper has become the standard metallisation material for on-chip interconnects in high-performance microprocessors. Compared to the previously used aluminium, copper shows not only a lower resistivity, but also significantly improved electromigration resistance. Copper ions, however, are very mobile in silicon and many dielectric materials under electrical and thermal bias. Thus, barrier layers are needed to prevent Cu diffusion into the insulating layers surrounding the metallic interconnects. Since Ta-based compounds are characterized by a high thermal stability, pure Ta films or layer stacks consisting of Ta and TaN are used for such barriers. The continuous scaling down of the interconnect dimensions and, therefore, the essential decrease in the barrier layer thickness coupled with the replacement of silicon oxide by advanced low-k dielectrics demand further improvements of the diffusion barrier performance. It is the aim of this book to carry out microstructure and functional property investigations for advanced, high-performance Tabased diffusion barriers (Ta-TaN layer stacks and Ta-Si-N single layers) before and after annealing to compare their thermal stabilities and to probe the corresponding failure mechanisms. For the Ta-TaN barriers, these studies are undertaken for a range of layer sequences, while for the Ta-Si-N barriers a variety of films with different chemical compositions are analysed.

The book offers educators, counselors and parents of 3-16-year old gifted, talented, curious, and creative children and youths a new, original tool of assessing their interests and abilities. As this book has been published during the second wave of the covid19 pandemic, it concentrates on ways of assessment that can all function on-line as well. All offered activities have been tried both before "corona-time" started, when on-line therapy, let alone - on-line giftedness identification, was not practiced for children. The case studies presented in the book have all been written since March 2019, proved effective, enriching the knowledge of the counselor. They were also described as "easy", "nice", pleasant" and "interesting" by the children involved, and thus are recommended as unlike formal identification they put no pressure either on the child or on her or his parents. The first assessed child described is a 3-year old girl, who was identified as highly gifted in mathematics. The "game" played was "the geometrical shapes game", during which she was asked "what do you want me [the counselor] to paint?" and then: "what color do you want me to use?" During the "game" the child showed a wide knowledge in both 2- and 3-dimentional shapes, she always insisted on using the exact mathematical terms, and each time she approved on the result she was very happy. The next "games" descried were all word games. In "The associations game" the counselor writes a word and the child adds another one without thinking, and this goes on alternately for as long as the counselor decides, depending on the child''s age, her or his attention span, level of hunger or thirst, etc. This "game" is suitable toddlers, kindergartners and first grader. The "ugly words game" is suitable especially for children with emotional and social problems. "Writing a story" is most suitable for kindergartners; it does not only reveal many important characteristics of the child but also enables them to express themselves freely, knowing that the story is imaginary. "Writing a story together" is the last suggestion for on-line assessment through a word game.

In this collection, a combined method of preventing and stopping a postpartum obstetric hemorrhage is proposed, involving surgical hemostasis by ligation of the descending branch of the uterine artery and placement of a hemostatic external supraplacental pleated suture, as well as mechanical compression of the uterine cavity with both vaginal and uterine Zhukovsky catheters, and coagulopathy management using thromboelastography (TEG). Uterine hemostatic sutures and their advantages and disadvantages are described in detail, and the benefits of the innovative external supraplacental pleated suture are discussed. Intrauterine balloon tamponade (IUBT) devices have been shown to to be an effective management for severe postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) resulting from uterine atony as well as placental site bleeding. IUBT have now been incorporated into standard protocols for management of severe PPH as a second line conservative surgical procedure due to its simplicity and relatively non-invasive nature. In recent decades, the use of second line procedures has rapidly increased and the effectiveness of these second-line procedures in reducing hysterectomy has been demonstrated in literature. Among these various second line procedures, the use of uterine balloon tamponade increased most rapidly. Balloon tamponade is less invasive and easier to apply than other second line management. Intrauterine balloon tamponade should probably be the first second-line procedure to consider in management of severe PPH. Lastly, the book discusses how anesthesia in pregnant women with rare diseases is challenging. Because of the low occurrence and heterogeneity of these diseases, most anesthesiologists are not familiar with the symptomatology, associated comorbidities, and their consequences for anesthesia. The authors suggest that peroperative monitoring should primarily focus on the cardiopulmonary system, the depth of the neuromuscular block, and the core temperature. Because of the high risk of respiratory depression following general anesthesia in patients with rare diseases, these patients should be closely monitored during the postoperative period, with an emphasis on complete reversal of neuromuscular blockade.

Dr Albert P Cardarelli (University of Massachusetts, Boston) and Dr. Charles Wellford (University of Maryland, College Park) opened the conference by presenting their research to help illuminate the consequences of unsolved murders and the variables that have contributed to the decline in clearance rates. Their research revealed that the changing nature of crime, the decentralisation of police departments, and the rise in gang violence have all had an impact on the effectiveness of homicide investigations. Law enforcement executives, academics, attorneys, and federal government representatives addressed the different effective strategies that have been developed to combat these problems, including various management and personnel decisions, videotaping suspect interviews, considering the availability of eyewitness identification options (simultaneous line-ups versus sequential line-ups), DNA analysis, and using cold case units and crime analysts to increase clearance rates. Case studies presented at the conference highlighted both the strengths and weaknesses associated with various investigation techniques. A town hall forum allowed attendees to discuss variables that contribute to an effective homicide unit. A lively discussion ensued, with participants mainly focusing on the role of science and technology, specifically how technology may at first appear to complicate the process but ultimately assists law enforcement by fostering change and improving investigational methods.

The purpose of this book was to investigate the temperature and input energy dependency of Nd:YAG laser performance pumped by flashlamp. A commercial laser rod Nd:YAG laser crystal was utilized as a gain medium. The laser rod was placed parallel to a linear flashlamp filled by xenon gas at 450 Torr. The Nd:YAG crystal together with the flashlamp was flooded with a coolant comprising of a mixture with 60% ethylene glycol and 40% distilled water, which covers a range of temperature from -30oC to +60oC. Spectroscopic properties of the Nd:YAG rod under pulsed flashlamp pumping was investigated from the output fluorescence spectrum of the flashlamp radiation and the Nd:YAG rod. The linewidth of each fluorescence line was measured for an estimation of an effective emission cross section and saturation intensity. The influence of temperature and input energy on a fluorescence emission cross section of Nd3+:YAG crystal was studied. The cross-section was found to decrease as the temperature and the input energy was increased. The inter-stark emission showed a Lorentzian line shape indicating homogeneous broadening. This was attributed to the thermal broadening mechanism of the emission line. The spectral widths and shifts of the emission lines for the three and four level inter-Stark transitions within the respective intermanifold transitions of 4F3/2→4I9/2 and 4F3/2→4I11/2 were investigated over the range of 0 to 75 J. The emission lines for the 4F3/2→4I9/2 transitions shifted towards a longer wavelength and broadened, while the positions and linewidths for the 4F3/2→4I11/2 transitions remained unchanged with the increase of input energy. Finally, the temperature dependence of quasi-three-level laser transitions for long pulse Nd:YAG laser was also investigated. The laser performances at both 938.5 nm and 946.0 nm were also found to be inversely proportional to temperature, and the slope efficiency was unchanged with temperature. The reduction was due to the mechanism of phonon scattering as well as a broadening effect while the temperature increased.
