Tilia Cordata Greenspire. Small Leaf Lime Trees Buy UK

Tilia Cordata Greenspire AGM is also known as the Small Leaf Lime or ... Little Leaved Linden Lime trees are native to the UK and have been residents here for thousands of years. In fact, there are still some present day specimens known to be up to 2000 years old growing here in the UK. Linden Trees are a familiar sight in parks and urban landscapes, chosen for their beautiful shape and foliage colour. Tilia Cordata Greenspire is an upright, deciduous, full standard tree with an almost conical shaped crown which is smaller than the native Linden tree. The foliage of Tilia Cordata Greenspire is heart shaped and vibrant green on the upperside with a paler underside and a serrated edge.  During the summer, creamy clusters of small flowers appear which can be used for making herbal tea, they have the sweetest scent and are a magnet for bees and other pollinators. Small Leaf Lime tree flowers are self-pollinating and eventually give way to fruits which contain the seeds, these are then propelled by wind pollination using a single 'wing' attached to the seed. Tilia Cordata Greenspire is an excellent specimen tree for almost any garden, they grow to max height at maturity of 10-13 metres with a spread of 7-9metres and tolerate urban environments very well.Lime trees are perfect candidates for pleaching, espallier training and are very often grown in avenues. Their neat uniform growth are perfect for planting either side of a drive, anywhere, where vibrant green foliage and shade are required. The leaves turn a lovely golden colour in Autumn and the fallen leaves break down quickly for composting.Tilia Cordata Greenspire was Awarded the RHS AGM Award of Garden Merit - a good indication it will do well in UK gardens.Growing Tip: Tilia Cordata Greenspire or Small Leaf Lime, will grow well in most soil types. Malus Domestica Queen Cox Apple Tree Espaliered Apple Trees

Malus Domestica Queen Cox, or Queen Cox Apple, is a sport of the old favourite Cox’s Orange Pippin, with a more attractive fruit and smaller growth habit which makes it a perfect espaliered apple tree. These apple trees have been shaped as 2-tier espaliered fruit trees, ideal for growing along a sunny south facing wall while taking up little lateral space.Introduced in 1975, Malus Domestica Queen Cox has become a favourite of gardeners for its small size and suitability for espalier growing. It produces lovely scented white blossoms in May, with the fruit that follows an attractive pale green in summer, ripening to an orange-red by late September. Since it is self-fertile, you do not need to plant more than one to enjoy its delicious fruit!Hardy throughout most of the UK, Malus Domestica Queen Cox grows to a mature height of only 1.5 – 2.5 metres in 5 to 10 years. Because of its small size, pruning and other care- including harvesting the delicious apples! - will be easy to accomplish.Plant your Queen Cox Apple in full sun, in a sheltered spot where it will be protected from north winds. It will also tolerate some shade as long as it is in the sun for half a day. Apples grow best in a well-drained, rich loamy soil. If planting in clay or sand, add plenty of organic matter to the planting hole. After planting your young tree, give it some support from a sturdy stake, and wrap the trunk with a guard to protect it from deer and rabbits. The small size and self-fertile nature of Malus Domestica Queen Cox make it an excellent choice for container planting. It will grow quite happily on a balcony or roof terrace. It is also a great candidate for an espaliered apple tree, trained against a wall or on a trellis to save space and also create an attractive garden feature. A row of Queen Cox Apples espaliered along a wall next to a walkway would be lovely from spring when the scented blossoms are in bloom, to summer when the pale green apples start to form, and then in the autumn when the branches are gemmed with the fragrant ripening apples! In a medium-sized garden you could fit in a grouping of several of these small apple trees, creating a pleasant orchard area, and increasing the amount of fruit you can harvest each autumn.Malus Domestica Queen Cox is an apple tree which can be grown by almost anyone. These specimens have been formed and shaped as full standard trees. Our standard trees on a tall clear stem will fit into even the smallest of gardens!Crataegus Monogyna Compacta is a dwarf hybrid introduced in 1907. Acer Campestre Nanum Dwarf Field Maple syn. Compactum

Acer Campestre Nanum Dwarf Field Maple syn. Compactum

Acer Campestre Nanum is also known as Acer Campestre Compactum, or commonly referred to as the Dwarf Field Maple. This is a hardy, beautiful tree that is perfect for smaller gardens. It brings plenty of character and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.Acer Campestre Nanum is a cultivar of the Acer Campestre Field Maple, and was developed because Field Maple was too large for most gardens in the UK. It was first introduced here in the late 1830s and has become a firm favourite for its compact, rounded-head and small crown. The Dwarf Field Maple will grow between 3-7 metres depending on growing conditions, and its crown will spread no more than 3 metres. It is a good choice for smaller spaces with its well-balanced proportions. In spring small, dark-green lobed leaves, measuring around 4-6 cm are produced in a thick dense crown. Alongside these leaves sprout small, inconspicuous flowers in a yellowy-green shade which attract a range of pollinators. The crown lasts throughout the summer providing cover for birds as well as garden shade. In autumn, winged seeds twist to the ground as the foliage turns an attractive shade of yellow before falling with the onset of winter. How Hardy Is Acer Campestre NanumDespite its smaller size Acer Campestre Nanum is just as tough as its parent tree. It will tolerate sub-zero winters and drought in the hot months once established. It is also tolerant of pollution. How To Use Acer Campestre NanumThis cultivar of maple is very slow-growing, so it won’t dominate a compact space within a few years. It grows well as a border tree, or as a specimen in the centre of the lawn. In urban areas it makes a good pollution-tolerant summer screen along fence line. They also grow well in large containers if you are able to water and feed them regularly. How To Care For Acer Campestre NanumOnce established the Dwarf Field Maple is self sufficient, tolerating drought, snows, and pollution, but younger newly planted specimens will need plenty of water until they have put down strong roots.Any soil suits this tough little cultivar from chalky to clay conditions. Treat it to a yearly application of thick organic mulch to boost health, and remove any broken or crossed branches in the winter months. There is no need to regularly prune this tree as it grows in a pleasing rounded-head without inference. The Dwarf Field Maple is small, tough and beautiful. You don’t need to go without a tree if you have a small garden or a patio – this is a top choice for tree-friendly compact spaces.

Mespilus Germanica Common Medlar Fruit Tree for Sale Online

Mespilus Germanica Common Medlar Fruit Tree for Sale Online

Mespilus Germanica or Common MedlarA member of the rose family, Mespilus Germanica, also known as Common Medlar, is a deciduous, ornamental fruit tree with a long history. This trouble-free tree has been cultivated throughout Europe for over 3,000 years, but it seems that these days it’s been unjustly forgotten. However, because of its attractive features, interesting edible fruit, and incredible resilience, Common Medlar is becoming popular again. A small tree with an umbrella-shaped crown, Common Medlar blossoms in late spring to early summer. The profusion of large, pure white flowers akin to wild roses looks striking framed by attractive foliage. The leaves of Common Medlar are toothed, oblong, with a hairy underside, medium green turning to striking shades of golden yellow and brown in the autumn. The self-fertile, five-petaled flowers are followed by edible fruit. Small and brown, Medlar fruit is both decorative and tasty. Although hard and inedible if picked too early, the fruit is quite delicious when fully ripe. The creamy texture and a flavour that’s similar to applesauce are achieved by leaving the picked fruit to soften for a few weeks, a process known as bletting.  Adaptable and sturdy, Common Medlar tolerates most soils, but prefers well-drained, fertile soil. It will thrive in a sunny location, sheltered from strong winds, but it can be grown in partial shade as well. Easy to grow and to care for, Common Medlar is pest and disease free. This long-lived tree can grow to be 4 to 8 metres high and across when mature, but it takes a few decades for it to achieve its ultimate height. Most specimens, however, remain relatively small, around 2 to 3 meters tall. Native to Europe and Asia, this ancient cultivar is fully hardy in Britain and Ireland. It won’t be bothered by severe winters or need sheltering when the temperatures drop below zero. As a matter of fact, the Medlar fruit benefits if it is harvested just after the first frost, as it speeds up the softening process. Self-pollinating and compact when fully established, Common Medlar is an ideal tree for small gardens. It won’t take up much space, and it provides year-round interest to the garden, with generous summer bloom, good autumn colour and unusual fruit that adorns bare branches as winter approaches. We have many more ornamental trees on offer and an ever growing selection of fruit trees, all of which are for sale online with UK and Ireland delivery.

Laburnum Anagyroides. Common Laburnum Trees for Sale Online

Laburnum Anagyroides or Common Laburnum is one of the prettiest trees you can choose for your landscape. A relatively small tree, Laburnum Anagyroides is a popular ornamental tree with some interesting characteristics it brings along the way, aside from its beautiful yellow dangling flowers.Of the Family Papilionaceae, the Genus Laburnum are classified as small deciduous trees with leaves composed of three leaflets, featuring bright yellow flowers shaped like a pea, in pendant racemes. Laburnum Anagyroides is also known as Common Laburnum, Golden Chain, Golden Rain, or even the Bean Tree. The Golden Chain name is a nod to its dangling yellow flowers when they bloom in late spring. One other unique characteristic relates to its classification as a leguminous tree, meaning it fixes Nitrogen from the atmosphere by way of bacteria borne in nodules on its roots. Its origins range from Southern and Central Europe, including France, Slovenia and Italy. The Common Laburnum was first introduced in the UK in 1560 and is found planted in many parks, open spaces and gardens. This beautiful tree is also known for its poisonous nature. All the parts have noxious aspects, but the seed is considered the most harmful. As a member of the pea family, the fruit does resemble the pea vegetable’s pod, but twisted and black upon maturation.Laburnum is a fairly easy grower, adaptable across many textures from well drained sands to chalky and even clay soil types; but it prefers the soil to be well drained, and does not tolerate water logged conditions. It grows well in near neutral, slightly acidic or slightly alkaline soils. They will grow to an ultimate height between 4-8 metres, and an ultimate spread of 4-8 metres as well. It will take between 20-50 years for this specimen to reach full growth.Laburnum Anagyroides grow in the semi shade of a light woodland planting or areas with no shade at all. It can tolerate strong winds, but avoid maritime exposures. This popular ornamental produces some of the hardest and heaviest timber of all the European trees. It is valued for its use in furniture, cabinet, and instrument making. The centre of the trunk is dark, chocolate brown in colour, and also very hard, often used in its history as a substitute for ebony. The smooth bark will often times branch from the base, making it a popular choice in parks and gardens; but even for hedging or in areas where bushy growth exists.

Amelanchier arborea Robin Hill (Amelanchier Robin Hill)The Amelanchier arborea Robin Hill, also known as the Amelanchier Robin Hill, is a small ornamental tree. It grows in a dense, upright fashion. As it ages, the branches take on a distinguished spreading habit that gives it a regal appearance. When fully grown the tree reaches a height of 4 to 8m with a canopy spread of 4 to 8m. Robin Hill usually reaches its full height and width between 10 to 20 years of age. In the early spring months, Amelanchier Robin Hill’s foliage appears in shades of eye-catching bronze. As the leaves mature, they take on a mint green hue and in the autumn the tree’s foliage becomes a blazing display of orange and red. Each spring, the tree is adorned with small pink buds that quickly open to a bevy of pink flowers that rapidly fade to snow white.  As the flowers wilt and die back, the tree produces an abundance of reddish and purple fruits that often persist on the branches into autumn. The tree usually attracts a wide assortment of birds and wildlife who favour the tasty fruit as a dietary staple.  The Amelanchier arborea Robin Hill grows best in full sun or partial shade. However, for the best autumn foliage colours, the Amelanchier tree should be grown in full sunlight. It prefers a planting location that has rich, acidic soil that is well-draining. Cydonia oblonga Champion Quince Tree for Sale Online UK

Cydonia oblonga Champion Quince Tree for Sale Online UK

Cydonia oblonga Champion, or Quince Tree Champion, has so many desirable qualities that it is difficult to list them all! From its delicious autumn fruits, to its lovely spring blossoms, and its small size suitable for any space, this lovely fruit tree will fit in anywhere! Cydonia oblonga was a favourite fruit tree in the ancient Mediterranean, where it was cultivated by the Greeks and Romans. The first records of Quince being grown in the UK are from 1275 when Edward I planted four at the Tower of London. Cydonia oblonga Champion was bred in the late 1900’s in the United States, and is one of the most dependable Quince Tree varieties. In early spring, the dark green, leathery leaves emerge, followed by the blossoms in late May into June. The pale pink single flowers, similar to apple blossoms, are scattered over the crown, followed by fruits which are green but turn a golden yellow in autumn. When placed in a bowl in the house, the fragrance of even one ripe quince will perfume the entire room.Hardy in most parts of the UK, Cydonia oblonga Champion will grow to a mature height and spread of just 2 metres in 5 to 10 years, but can easily be pruned in late winter to maintain a smaller size. Like most Quinces, Cydonia oblonga Champion is self-pollinating so you do not need to plant more than one variety.Plant Cydonia oblonga Champion in a sheltered position in full sun, in moist but well-drained sand, clay or loam soil with an acid to neutral pH. This variety will do well in very wet soils. Since it is not tolerant of salt, it should be protected from sea winds in coastal regions, but can be grown easily in cities, as it is very tolerant of pollution. As Cydonia oblonga Champion is deer-resistant, it can be grown without special protection in country locations. The small size and ornamental qualities of Cydonia oblonga Champion make it a lovely addition to an informal cottage or small garden, and since it will do well in wet soil, it can be planted next to a pond or stream. Cydonia oblonga Champion, like all Quince Trees, will give you not only the beauty of its spring blossoms, but a bountiful harvest of fragrant, ornamental fruit in autumn! Lots more to choose from in our fruiting trees section. Tip: Cydonia Oblonga is the family of fruiting quinces grown primarily for their fruit.
