Transactional Analysis Approaches to Brief Therapy - Keith Tudor - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Transactional Analysis Approaches to Brief Therapy - Keith Tudor - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

`This book, edited by Keith Tudor (who is also one of the ten contributors) is excellent reading for a number of reasons: for those who know nothing about TA, it is a highly informative and readily accessible introduction. For those who read or studied it some time ago, it is an excellent refresher. I am impressed by the diversity of people and applications of TA, and the developments outlined in this book are, certainly for me, cause for hope because, as well as offering frameworks for making ′simple′ sense of humans in action – and human inaction – TA is a complex and profound system that offers people a way of solving the problems of the present, re-evaluating the struggles of the past, and reshaping the future with permission and power based on a greater sense of self′ - Nurturing Potential `I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all therapists as enriching and interesting reading′ - European Association for Transactional Analysis Newsletter `It is a book which would offer helpful introductions to both the practice of transactional analysis, and the attitude needed when planning brief therapy of any kind′ - The Jounal of Analytical Psychology Of all the approaches to therapy, transactional analysis is arguably one of those most suited to time-limited work. At a time when short-term therapy is increasingly dominant as a form of practice, Transactional Analysis Approaches to Brief Therapy provides an insightful guide which both informs and challenges. Rather than a single theory, TA has developed as a group of four schools which share a common philosophy, but place different emphasis on what occurs during the therapeutic process. Written by therapists at the leading edge of developments in TA, the book presents and differentiates each of these four approaches. Through transcripts and commentaries, it shows how theory applies to practice, for example in treating post-traumatic stress or in achieving a one-session cure. The book also includes a useful glossary of TA terms, as well as an appendix of Eric Berne′s short script-questionnaire. In some ways critical of the zeitgeist of short-termism and the commercial pressures for therapy to be brief, the book seeks a balance between the challenge TA offers as an actionistic approach to quick and efficient therapy and the importance of relationship in therapy which is time-conscious. It will be enlightening reading for all those training and those already trained as therapists and counsellors in TA.

Skills in Transactional Analysis Counselling & Psychotherapy - Christine Lister Ford - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Skills in Transactional Analysis Counselling & Psychotherapy - Christine Lister Ford - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

`An important book that deserves reading by both trainees and experienced therapists of all approaches and models′ - Counsellingbooks.com Skills in Transactional Analysis Counselling & Psychotherapy is a practical introduction to a uniquely comprehensive therapeutic approach, which combines theories of the mind, emotions, behaviour and bodily experience. Following the typical pattern of working with a client, the book describes the key features of Transactional Analysis (TA) and its basic building blocks - ego states, transactions, games and scripts. Each concept or technique is introduced at the stage in the counselling process at which it is required. Backed up by exercises, this enables readers to build their knowledge and skills base in tandem with their understanding of the counselling process itself. Part One focuses on the development of the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client and gives guidance on how to create structures in which the work can begin. Part Two explains how to build the client′s awareness with the aim of strengthening their capacity to think more clearly and solve problems. Part Three looks at deepening the work with the client by helping them to discover the history behind the problems and make contact with their inner child. Part Four explores how to enable the client to move toward personal autonomy through integrating and synthesizing the work undertaken with the counsellor. This book vividly demonstrates the art of TA practice, considering fully the experience of both the counsellor and the client. For all those training in TA, this will be essential reading.

Internet Communication and Qualitative Research - Chris Mann - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

`Internet Communication and Qualitative Research is a trailblazing introduction to data sources that will come to the fore in the new millennium. Its cogent discussion of the techniques, ethics and methods of analysis of Internet data should be read by every qualitative researcher′ - David Silverman, Goldsmiths College `The internet is exploding with possibilities for conducting social research. Mann and Stewart offer the first in-depth consideration of the prospects and potentials for doing qualitative research on-line. This wide ranging, clearly-written book is essential reading for researchers working at the cutting edge of qualitative methodology′ - James A. Holstein, Marquette University `This is e-scholarship. The book is a transformative project which brings the best skills of the old print scholarship to the cyberworld. The authors are no mere theoreticians - but hands-on net-users, who have made the imaginative leap to the dot.com world, and who have mapped the way for net research and researchers. The authors are pioneers in the realm of digit-crit - opening the way with their critical evaluation of the digital media and net research. They profile the skills required by the online researcher and evaluate the context in which they are used - in relation to privacy, security, ethics and legal considerations. They also take up issues of power; they explore the social and political implications of the digital media, (with specific reference to gender) and the role of the online researcher. An absolute must for cybercitizens and an indispensable guide for students, researchers, and knowledge workers in the dot.com world′ - Dale Spender `Mann and Stewart have prized open the mysteries of on-line qualitative research. For those new to this methodology the technology review demystifies; the social science research ethics issues are re-addressed with reference to the on-line situation; methods of conducting online focus groups and interviews, in particular, are detailed. The tone is both analytical and practical with a host of techniques suggested. I recommend this accessible text for all qualitative researchers, both academic and practitioner′ - Rehan Ul-Haq, University of Birmingham Business School `Here is the clear, useful guide to the Internet research needed by all of us interested in on-line relationships and research. The authors address such issues as ethics, confidentiality, the theory and practice of on-line research, and on-line power relationships (which will be of concern in distance learning plans and programs). A very valuable book.′ - Cheris Kramarae, Center for the Study of Women in Society, University of Oregon `Wonderful - "beyond the software" and into on-line interaction to aid and abet our qualitative research. This book shines the light. Mann and Stewart are to be congratulated in offering qualitative researchers effective and authentic ways forward through electronic communication. I′ll use and recommend it!′ - Gilly Salmon, Centre for Information and Innovation, Open University Business School `Opens to view a whole new avenue for social research. Internet communication is the wave of the future. Mann and Stewart capture its potential with insight, caution, and consummate procedural skill. Pathbreaking in its area of research methodology! Students and researchers will be very pleased with its clarity and usefulness′ - Jaber F Gubrium, Department of Sociology, University of Florida `The authors have produced a timely and stimulating publication with handy explanations of Internet terms and qualitative research applications. This work should be made readily available not only for reference to academics and practitioners of marketing, but also to those with a lay interest in it′ - Professor Len Tiu Wright, De Montfort University Internet Communication and Qualitative Research is the first textbook to examine the impact of Internet technology on qualitative research methods. Drawing on many pioneering studies using computer-mediated communication (CMC), the authors show how online researchers can employ Internet-based qualitative methods to collect rich, descriptive, contextually-situated data. They discuss the methodological, practical and theoretical considerations associated with such methods as: in-depth online interviewing, virtual focus groups, participant observation in virtual communities. This is a comprehensive and practical guide that: - reviews online research practice and basic Internet technology - looks in detail at the skills required by the online researcher - examines the ethical, confidentiality, security and legal issues involved in online research - considers the theoretical challenges surrounding data collected in a ′virtual venue′ - addresses the social and cultural impact of researching online through a discussion of power, gender and ide

A Team Approach to Behaviour Management - Chris Derrington - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

`This is an accessible and clearly set-out book, with a consistently positive and empowering tone. The examples and level of the material are realistic and likely to promote discussion, which is skilfully handled, would lead to a more consistent approach′ - European Journal of Special Needs `Trying to know something about everything is a tall order, but this book can ease the burden considerably if you feel the teaching assistants (or any staff in your school) would benefit from help and advice on behaviour management. This is just the thing for a busy SENCO, although, as a special needs adviser, I can already see how I might use and adapt some of the excellent resources and activity ideas to add sparkle to my own centre - and school-based training′ - British Journal of Special Education `The resource is designed for SENCOs/trainers who work with TAs and it really does hit its target audience, striking a good balance between the SENCO′s need for comprehensive coverage of the material and the TA′s need for an accessible training and developmental experience. In addition, there are clearly potential applications for (perhaps slightly tweaked) elements of the resource with other teaching, and non-teaching, staff in schools. The resource costs £16.99, which works out at just £2.50 per unit. Setting aside the ′real′ value of the resource in terms of the improved behaviour-management performance of our TA′s and other school staff, the value to the SENCO/trainer of having a comprehensively packaged resource which includes so much useful material and which requires little, if any, ′tweaking′ before being presented to its target audience in the individual school, is vastly greater than what is, essentially, just the price of a pint of beer per unit′ - Spare-Chair `According to the SENCO in the school where I work: "It′s just what I′ve been looking for! All the work has been done for me, where can I buy one?". This book is well laid out, easy to access and simple to understand′- Teaching Assistant News `This book provides a clear structure for the SENCO to deliver in-school training on behaviour management…Each unit offers suggestions for practical school-based follow-up work that TAs can undertake. It would be a useful support to SENCOs who are planning training. Brendan Cunnane, Teaching and Learning Consultant for KS3 Behaviour and Attendance notes that: (the book) "chimes fully with the messages of the KS2 pilot on developing SEBS (Social, Emotional and Behavioural Skills) and the KS3 B & A Strand…. Good exercises and strategies which are clearly explained…. A good practical compendium with theoretical underpinnings" ′ - East Riding Teaching Assistant News `The materials are comprehensive and thought-provoking. They deal with the issues of behaviour management at an individual, team and school level and the participant activities provided are at once engaging and insightful′ - TA Help Website Developed from training courses run by the authors for SENCOs and teaching assistants, this book provides a clear structure for the SENCO to deliver in-school training on behaviour management to teaching assistants and other school staff. The emphasis is on planning for a team approach to problem solving within the context of whole-school improvement. The book is split up into a series of units that are designed to develop awareness and understanding through shared training. Each unit offers suggestions for practical school-based follow-up work that the teaching assistant can undertake and provides materials to allow the teaching assistant to maintain a reflective log of their work to support their professional development. The authors: - place their material in the context of the increasingly managerial role SENCOs are undertaking with their teaching assistants - take into account the proposed development of the role of the teaching assistant as outlined in recent DfES guidance - provide the SENCO with all training materials - photocopiable worksheets , suggested aims and objectives, discussion topics, tasks and activities. The units offer a flexible training programme that schools can tailor to their individual needs and everything is written in a highly practical and user-friendly style. SENCOs should find it an invaluable training tool for use with teaching assistants and other school staff. It is suitable for use at both primary and secondary level.
