Arbutus Andrachnoides Hybrid Strawberry Tree Evergreen Tree

Arbutus Andrachnoides Hybrid Strawberry Tree Evergreen Tree

Arbutus Andrachnoides (Hybrid Strawberry Tree) is an RHS AGM-winning evergreen strawberry tree with dark green foliage and cinnamon-red bark. It’s excellent in sheltered spots with neutral to acidic soil. Also known as Red Barked Strawberry Tree, this is a naturally occurring hybrid cross between the Grecian species Arbutus Andrachne and the native Irish Unedo, otherwise known as the Killarney Strawberry tree. This evergreen tree is smaller than Unedo with the same-sized pinky-red strawberry-like fruits. The Hybrid Strawberry Tree produces autumn to wintertime masses of small pink-white blossoms, which ripen into fruit the following autumn. This strawberry tree cross has stringy cinnamon-red bark and a rounded crown of handsome dark green foliage all year.If you’re looking for an unusual, small evergreen tree to create vertical interest, graceful Arbutus Andrachnoides is an attention-grabbing choice.Height and Spread of Arbutus AndrachnoidesFast-growing Hybrid Strawberry Tree matures faster than both its parent plants. It reaches five metres in 5-10 years. How Hardy is Arbutus AndrachnoidesThis is a hardy evergreen in freezing temperatures, but it struggles to cope with a very exposed spot where harsh, drying winds damage its foliage. In exposed areas, unedo is a better choice. How To Use for Arbutus AndrachnoidesRed Barked Strawberry Tree is a great choice for compact gardens because it only reaches five metres tall. It’s grand enough to grab attention, but slim enough that it doesn’t take over the space. Its year-round dark green foliage and wintertime white flowers bring colour to drab winter gardens.Sunny, urban courtyards through to country cottage gardens benefit from its vertical height and colour, plus birds and insects find shelter in its evergreen foliage. Late-waking bees drink its wintertime nectar and birds enjoy the fruits.Despite its name, the strawberry-like fruits are not as tasty as strawberries. How to Care for Arbutus AndrachnoidesRed Barked Strawberry Tree enjoys full sun to partial shade. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot in well-drained neutral-to-acidic soil and it should thrive with little attention. Young trees benefit from a south wall that creates shelter and traps warmth.Prune it in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Remove dead, damaged, or crossed branches and tidy up the shape by cutting branches just above a healthy bud. Do not heavily prune it, because that reduces flowering.Water thoroughly until established and during drought spells. A thick layer of well-rotted organic matter around the roots retains moisture, suppresses weeds, and provides nutrients for a dazzling display of white blossom.

Rosa Blaze Superior Hybrid Climbing Rose for Sale Online UK

Rosa Blaze Superior Hybrid Climbing Rose for Sale Online UK

Rose Blaze Superior    Climbing Rose Blaze Superior is a hybrid climbing rose with large double red blooms and dark green foliage. It’s a good choice for sunny walls, fence lines and archways.Rose Blaze Superior is a tried and tested climbing rose that was introduced in the 1930s and is still going strong. Its name describes the enormous flush of crimson red blooms that cover the plant throughout the summer.  Blooms are borne in clusters on stems sturdy enough to hold blooms upright and provide a blaze of fire in the garden, hence its name. It has a moderate scent that’s attractive but not overpowering.  Foliage is dark green, shiny, and prickly but the stems are not as thorny as some making it a good choice for child and pet-friendly gardens. Height and Spread of Rose Blaze SuperiorStunning Climbing Rose Blaze Superior will reach three metres and spread over 50 cms. You can keep it smaller with a yearly prune. How Hardy Is Rose Blaze SuperiorClimbing Rose Blaze Superior is hardy in minus temperatures throughout the UK if the roots are well-drained.How To Use Rose Blaze SuperiorClimbing Rose Blaze Superior is a good choice for bare walls and fence lines in a sunny spot. Its lush foliage and repeat crimson blooms provide plenty of cover in the summer months. This climbing rose will grow up an obelisk, arch, or pergola covering the surface with large sweetly scented flowers from either the soil or a large well-watered and fed container. Bee-friendly Rose Blaze Superior is a good low maintenance choice for wildlife garden as the repeat blooms are a magnet for our essential pollinators.  How To Care For Rose Blaze SuperiorChoose a sunny, warm spot in a sheltered position for climbing roses. Rose Blaze Superior loves manure rich soils so when planting or potting up incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure into the planting hole. This will encourage more flowers and healthier foliage. If you’ve planted against a wall give it plenty of water in dry spells as walls and fence lines can prevent rainfall from reaching the roots. Regularly deadheading the spent flowers will encourage new buds to form.  Cut back a third in late winter or early spring and remove all dead or crossed branches as this stimulates new fresh growth. A thick layer of well-rotted mulch in spring traps moisture and proves nutrients for the growing year.

Prunus yedoensis or Yoshino Cherry Tree for Sale Online UK

Prunus yedoensis or Yoshino Cherry Tree for Sale Online UK

Prunus Yedoensis or the Yoshino Cherry Tree, which has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit, is one of the most popular flowering cherries worldwide, most notable for the stunning springtime display in Washington DC. You can bring that same fragrant beauty to your own garden! Originally from Japan, this hybrid cherry has mysterious beginnings, but it appears to be likely that every Prunus yedoensis is the result of grafting from one original hybrid cross in the 18th or 19th centuries. It has an upright growth habit with a spreading or vase-shaped crown. In April, Yoshino cherry’s single-petalled, fragrant white or slightly pink flowers open, covering the tree in a cloud of white. The flowers are followed by small fruits which change from green to red to black as they ripen. The ripe fruits will attract birds to your garden. At the same time or shortly before the flowers, its ovate, serrated leaves emerge, remaining a dark green before turning yellow and bronze in the autumn.Reliably winter-hardy throughout the UK, Prunus yedoensis will grow fairly quickly over its first 20 years before reaching its eventual height of more than 12 metres and spread of 8 metres in 50 years. It needs little pruning to maintain the graceful shape which adds beauty to your garden even in the winter months.Plant your Prunus yedoensis in any soil type, as long as it is well-drained, with plenty of organic matter added to the planting hole. Yoshino cherry will tolerate a wide ph range. It performs best in full sun, in either an exposed or sheltered location, but it is best to keep it out of very windy spots to keep the blossoms on the trees as long as possible. The Yoshino Cherry Tree is a stunning tree which will bring great value to your garden, whether planted singly as a specimen tree in a small garden, or in groups or rows on a larger property. One tree will be an excellent focal point in a lawn, where its spectacular spring blooms and bright autumn foliage colour will give long-season interest. As a garden planting, it will combine beautifully with spring bulbs while in bloom, and then provide summer shade for patio and garden. On a larger property, there will be few sights as glorious as a grouping of blooming Prunus yedoensis in a sweep of lawn, or lining an avenue or roadway. As we can see from its use in Washington DC, there is no such thing as too many Yoshino cherry trees! With its glorious spring show, the Yoshino Cherry Tree has been a landscaping stalwart across the globe for more than 200 years. It is widely held that the most popular variety of cherry blossom in Japan is the Yoshino Cherry. Its flowers are nearly pure white, tinged with the palest pink, especially near the stem. The flowers bloom and usually fall within a week, before the leaves come out. Therefore, the trees look nearly white from top to bottom.
