Actinidia Kolomikta Climber. Actinidia Kolomikta for Sale

Actinidia Kolomikta Climber. Actinidia Kolomikta for Sale

The Actinidia Kolomikta climber will bring not only the fragrance of its flowers to your garden, but most notably the striking variations of colour on the leaves will contribute considerable visual interest. It has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit for these desirable qualities.  Native to eastern Asia, the Actinidia Kolomikta Climber has been grown in the UK since the 1870’s, and is a favourite of gardeners for its variegated foliage. The heart-shaped, 15 cm long leaves are a deep purplish-green when they emerge in spring, and then turn a medium green, developing irregular patterns of silver white and then pink. Some leaves will turn completely pink, while others just have pink tips, creating an overall tapestry of green, pink and silver. Small, 1 cm white flowers appear from May to July, and have a pleasant fragrance. If male and female vines are planted together, the females will produce a crop of 2.5 cm long fruits in fall, similar to kiwi. However, the colour variations that are so desirable are more notable on male plants, and Actinidia Kolomikta is often grown for ornamental purposes only.Hardy in most parts of the UK, Actinidia Kolomikta will quickly climb up a wall or trellis to a final height and spread of 4-8 metres in 5 to 10 years. Prune in late winter to remove dead wood and shape the vine. It will need a trellis to wrap its stems around, and some stems will need to be tied to supports. Plant your Actinidia Kolomikta in full sun for best foliage colour, in a sheltered, south-facing exposure, in any well-drained fertile soil, preferably with a slightly acid to neutral ph. It is not susceptible to pests or diseases, but cats are even more attracted to it than to catmint, so make sure that young leaves are protected!Actinidia Kolomikta Climber will look stunning when allowed to spread out against an old brick wall, or when trained up into the crown of a tree. Its vigorous growth and dense foliage also make it a great choice for growing up and across an arbour or pergola, where its colourful foliage display and fragrant flowers will be much appreciated. Actinidia Kolomikta is a very desirable landscape plant, especially for its spectacularly coloured foliage. The green, pink and silver variegated leaves will create a striking display all through the season!

Acer Palmatum Ueno yama. Japanese Maple Ueno Homare for Sale

Acer Palmatum Ueno yama. Japanese Maple Ueno Homare for Sale

Acer Palmatum Ueno Yama is a lesser-known acer of the palmatum family that originates from Chinese, Japanese and Korean regions. It’s alternatively called Acer Palmatum Ueno Homare, Ueno-No-Homare or the Japanese Maple Ueno Yama. Most Japanese maples produce seasonal colour in spectacular blazes, but the Ueno Yama begins theirs earlier than most, being one of the first to leaf. These early five-lobed leaves dazzle in a bright yellow hue with orange edging and bring a welcome change from the dull winter landscape. As summer approaches the leaves transform into a bright green often retaining their orange edge. During autumn the foliage gradually lights up into a spectacular bright orange-yellow display. Acer Palmatum Ueno Homare Hardiness LevelsThe Japanese Maple Ueno Yama is hardy in all UK climates, and is one of the easiest to care for. It is surprisingly tolerant of most garden soils but will flourish best in moist, well-drained earth that is more acidic than alkaline. When kept out of water-logged conditions an Acer Palmatum Ueno Yama will easily withstand sub-zero temperatures. How To Use Acer Palmatum Ueno HomareAcer Palmatum Ueno Homare is a compact upright tree that works best as a specimen plant, particularly when positioned so evening sun can light up its spectacular foliage. It also does well in containers, and this gives you the added benefit of moving them to the best evening sun spots, or even next to a pond which will reflect the foliage. An upright growth habit makes a Japanese Maple Ueno Yama suitable for small to medium-sized gardens and adds interest at tricky mid-height areas. Its final height can measure up to five feet by three feet wide. How To Care For Your Japanese Maple Ueno YamaAlthough Acer Palmatum Uemo Yama is more forgiving than other Japanese maples, young foliage may be damaged by dry soil or scorched by too much exposure to sun or frost, so it’s best to plant them in dappled shade. All Japanese Acers need some protection from the wind to retain their spectacular foliage, so shelter your young Ueno Yama from cold gusts too. When planting Japanese Maple Ueno Yama in your garden ensure the soil is free-draining. In containers you should use loam-based free draining compost. Re-pot every two to three years in April or September. During the winter Japanese maples in pots may suffer root damage from harsh frosts, but you can avoid this by placing bubble-wrap around the container.Pruning is not necessary, but remove crossed stems or broken branches in autumn after the foliage has dropped. You may want to turn that dropped foliage into leaf-mould compost for spring feeding. The Acer Palmatum Uemo Yama is an eye-catching, vigorous and incredibly hardy investment for a medium-sized garden that needs a splash of mid-height colour.

Rosa Golden Gate Climber. Golden Gate Rose Climbing Rose

Rosa Golden Gate Climber. Golden Gate Rose Climbing Rose

Rosa Golden Gate or Golden Gate Rose is a hardy, disease resistant climbing rose that has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its low-maintenance beauty that lasts all season long.  Introduced in 2005, the Golden Gate rose was developed by the German nursery Kordes as an exceptionally healthy climbing rose variety. The semi-double fragrant yellow flowers are produced from June to September, against a backdrop of glossy green leaves. Reliably winter-hardy throughout the UK, Rosa Golden Gate will grow to a height of 2.5 metres when trained against an upright support, which is essential for a climbing rose. It is important to prune roses to maintain a good shape and health. Once the plants are established, prune annually in late autumn or during the winter, removing any dead wood and opening up the branch structure for good air circulation. Older stems can be cut back to the base to encourage fresh, vigorous growth. Roses are heavy feeders and the Golden Gate rose is no exception. While they will tolerate any soil, as long as it is deeply dug and well-drained, you do need to add plenty of rich organic matter to the soil when planting, and thereafter top dress with well-rotted manure or a specially formulated rose fertilizer twice a season, first in March and then again after the first flush of blooms finish in early summer. Rosa Golden Gate was bred specifically to be disease-resistant without the use of chemicals, and so is an excellent choice for an organic gardener.A climbing rose such as Rosa Golden Gate has many uses in the garden. Attach the growing stems to a wall-mounted trellis to clothe it in fragrant gold, or on freestanding trellises alongside a patio or courtyard for a lovely privacy screen. Train them up a pillar or doorpost to welcome guests into your home with glorious scent and colour. Two Golden Gate roses planted at each base of a metal arch, and trained until they meet at the middle, will create a welcoming portal into either a formal outdoor room or an informal cottage garden. Or, cover a walkway with an arching roof of blooming Golden Gate roses, creating a rose tunnel to delight those walking within it!Rosa Golden Gate has so much to recommend it: hardiness, disease-resistance, long blooming season, and, of course, its lovely, golden, fragrant blooms. Cornus Mas Cornelian Cherry Dogwood Tree or Hedge for Sale

Cornus Mas Cornelian Cherry Dogwood Tree or Hedge for Sale

Cornus Mas, commonly known as the Cornelian Cherry tree, will cheer you up in the bleak month of February when its golden flowers bloom! Its flowers, foliage and cherry-red fruits all contribute to making this a worthwhile plant for including in your garden.Native to central Europe, Cornus Mas has been grown in UK gardens for several centuries. As early as February, the small yellow flowers appear on the bare stems, creating a lovely garden picture. The bright red fruits mature in late summer. They are edible, and make excellent jam, or can be left on the tree to attract birds to the garden. The oval leaves, up to 10 cm long, are green in spring and summer, turning purple in the autumn. The bark of Cornus Mas develops large flaking patches of cream, orange and brown, adding to winter interest. The Cornelian Cherry tree is hardy in all of the UK and northern Europe. It will reach its mature height and spread of 2.5-4 metres in 10 to 20 years. If planting as a hedge, space plants 60-90 cm apart. If necessary, prune lightly in the late winter or early spring.Cornus Mas is a tough ornamental tree which will adapt to a variety of growing conditions. Plant it in full sun or partial shade in any well-drained soil, in an exposed or sheltered position. The small size of Cornelian Cherry tree makes it a good choice where space is limited, such as a rooftop terrace or courtyard. It is resistant to urban pollution, so makes a good screen in a city setting, even along a roadway. As a specimen plant in a mixed border, its winter blooms will be welcome colour, and in summer Cornus Mas will provide dappled shade for flowers planted beneath. Against a stone or brick wall with a sunny aspect, the golden flowers will shine, and the leaves and fruits of autumn will stand out. In a country setting, a hedge of Cornelian Cherry will provide privacy, early season colour, and an autumn foliage show, as well as sheltering and feeding birds. It is a good choice for a wildlife or woodland garden, where it will happily grow in the dappled shade of larger trees. In return for little maintenance, Cornus Mas will give your garden winter flowers, summer fruits and colourful fall foliage. No matter the size of your garden, there is a place for this tough and versatile plant!

Jasminum Nudiflorum Winter Jasmine. Jasminum Sieboldianum

Jasminum Nudiflorum Winter Jasmine. Jasminum Sieboldianum

Native to China, the Jasminum Nudiflorum is a beautiful winter flowering jasmine. It is more commonly known as winter jasmine due to its winter flowering habit, or sometimes Jasminum Sieboldianum. It benefits are numerous enough for the RHS to give it the Award of Garden Merit. Like most winter flowering deciduous shrubs, winter flowered jasmine produces its flowers before foliage appears. The early flowering blooms are fragrant and attract any early waking pollinators. These bright yellow blooms, measuring 2.5 centimetres, brighten the dull winter months from December to March, easily defeating the wet UK weather. They appear suddenly on bright green stems that give the impression winter jasmine is evergreen, even though its foliage drops in the cold months. Foliage appears in spring. The leaves are small and trifoliate, adorning long, arching branches and shooting out tendrils that scramble up a wall or trellis. Winter flowering jasmine is medium-sized. It will grow to a height of 1.5 to 2.5 metres and spread over the same distance. It will take five to ten years to reach these heights. How Hardy Is Jasminum Nudiflorum?Winter jasmine is hardy in most places of the UK even in cold winters. Keep its roots out of constantly waterlogged conditions to avoid rot. How To Use Jasminum NudiflorumWinter flowering jasmine is best grown on a trellis or wire. Its shrubby habit covers unsightly areas and the strong framework means it remains in place once trained. It will scramble up a low wall or a bank if left untouched. Because winter jasmine does not twine like many other jasmines, it is easy to train and simply requires you tie vigorous shoots to the frame work. How To Care For Jasminum NudiflorumWinter flowering jasmine is not particular about its soil or pH. It will thrive in most soils that are fertile and well-drained. It enjoys full sun, and looks its best with the morning sun on its bright yellow blooms, but it will also grow well in partial shade too. Each winter remember to mulch thickly around the base to encourage fresh healthy shoots and a good amount of growth that year. Cut back any excess growth after flowering, cutting back to a strong bud. If you need to manage its height, cut established shrubs back by a quarter.  Regular pruning keeps winter jasmine healthy and encourages bushy growth rather than vertical height. If you’re looking for a cheerful winter flowering climber to cover a bare patch, winter flowering jasmine is a great choice. Its RHS award attests to its reliability and ease of growth. It’s a top notch shrub that every gardener should enjoy.

Quercus Robur, Quercus Pedunculata, English Oak trees buy UK

Quercus Robur, also known as Quercus Pedunculata or English Oak, is a magnificent tree native to the UK. This long-lived and much-loved tree is one of the most common species to be found in the UK, and with good reason - bring its stately beauty home to your own property! The English Oak has long held a special place in the forests of the UK, where it is a native species. As Quercus Robur matures, it forms a wide, spreading crown which casts a dappled shade onto the ground below. The 10 cm long dark green leaves emerge in May, at the same time as the 2- 4 cm long yellow catkins which hang from the branches. Once an English Oak tree has reached about 40 years, these flowers are followed in autumn by the 2- 2.5 cm long acorns that are a favourite food of many wild animals. The leaves turn a reddish-brown in autumn. Hardy in all parts of the UK, Quercus Robur will grow to a height of 12 metres and spread of 8 metres in 20 to 50 years. However, it will continue to grow fairly rapidly for up to 120 years, reaching a final mature height between 20 and 40 metres. This is a tree to plant for the future, not just for your lifetime. Pinus Sylvestris Standard Trees. Scots Pine Trees Clear Stem

Pinus Sylvestris Standard Trees. Scots Pine Trees Clear Stem

The Scots Pine or Pinus Sylvestris is one of the most-planted conifers in the world and is also an excellent choice as an accent tree. These are Pinus Sylvestris standard trees. Native to the British Isles, by the 1700’s forests of Pinus Sylvestris were found only in the northern mountains of Scotland, hence its common name. It is the UK’s only native cone-bearing tree. Its upper trunk and branches develop an orange-brown, flaking bark. The needles, up to 7 cm in length, are grey-green. All Scots Pine trees bear both male and female small yellow flowers in spring, developing cones 5 cm long, which take 2 years to mature from green to brown. Hardy in even the most severe northern European climates, Pinus Sylvestris will grow to a mature height of more than 12 metres and spread of 8 metres in 20 to 50 years if left to their own devices. They can grow almost a metre in height every year before reaching their mature size, and then live for 250-300 years. Plant your Pinus Sylvestris Standard Tree in full sun in any well-drained soil, in an exposed or sheltered position. It is important to select a spot where its heavy needle drop will not be a problem. Tolerant of pollution, it is a good choice for city plantings but is salt and wind-resistant, so does well in coastal locations. It is not favoured by deer so is good for planting on country properties. A single Pinus Sylvestris, or a group of several, planted in the middle of a large lawn in a row will form an impressive focal point. In a woodland or wildlife garden, a Scots Pine will create shade for under-storey trees and shrubs, and provide valuable shelter for wildlife. Pinus Sylvestris is starting to extend its range farther south to reclaim areas in which it once thrived, and this native conifer is a worthwhile addition to any UK landscape. You may also be interested in our more topiary Pinus Sylvestris trees including Pinus Sylvestris Cloud Tree, Pinus Sylvestris Topiary Dome and the Pinus Sylvestris Watereri Topiary Lollipop.
