Dual-career Marriage - Lisa R. Silberstein - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Dual-career Marriage - Lisa R. Silberstein - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Dual-career marriage, in which wife and husband each pursue a professional career, offers a window into the changing landscape of gender roles and relations. In the span of a single generation, the family in which both parents work outside the home has gone from being the exception to being the rule. This book examines the multi-layered implications this impressive, rapid change holds for the fabric of family and marital life and for the course of men''s and women''s work lives. Intensive interviews with dual-career wives and husbands provide rich information about four major issues: * In what ways and for whom do dual-career marriages replicate the traditional gender arrangements of one-career marriages, and in what ways do dual-career marriages represent a revolution in gender roles? * How do the two careers of spouses develop side by side, and in what ways do dual-career spouses help or hinder each other''s careers? * How do work and family combine in dual-career marriages? * How are relationships between spouses and between parents and children affected by dual careers? This book presents a subtle, textured portrait of contemporary dual-career marriage -- examining the complicated interplay of expectations, behaviors, and emotions within and between dual-career spouses. The author observes that the centrality of family or work to each spouse''s sense of self powerfully affects how the couple negotiates the challenges posed by dual-career marriage, including feelings of competition between spouses, questions of geographic moves, and division of domestic tasks. The study illuminates many issues of clinical relevance, such as the common hazard of dual-career spouses having little time for marital intimacy once the rigorous demands of careers and children are met, and the complicated intrapersonal as well as interpersonal tensions generated by gender roles in transition.

Irony in The Twilight Zone - David Melbye - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

Rod Serling’s pioneering series The Twilight Zone (1959 to 1964) is remembered for its surprise twist endings and pervading sense of irony. While other American television series of the time also experimented with ironic surprises, none depended on these as much as Serling’s. However, irony was not used merely as a structural device—Serling and his writers used it as a provocative means by which to comment on the cultural landscape of the time. Irony in The Twilight Zone: How the Series Critiqued Postwar American Culture explores the multiple types of irony—such as technological, invasive, martial, sociopolitical, and domestic—that Serling, Richard Matheson, Charles Beaumont, and other contributors employed in the show. David Melbye explains how each kind of irony critiqued of a specific aspect of American culture and how all of them informed one another, creating a larger social commentary. This book also places the show’s use of irony in historical and philosophical contexts, connecting it to a rich cultural tradition reaching back to ancient Greece. The Twilight Zone endures because it uses irony to negotiate its definitively modernist moment of “high” social consciousness and “low” cultural escapism. With its richly detailed, frequently unexpected readings of episodes, Irony in The Twilight Zone offers scholars and fans a fresh and unique lens through which to view the classic series.

Dual Disorders: Essentials for Assessment and Treatment is a practical handbook for the assessment and clinical management of patients with addiction and psychiatric disorders. Addictions counselors, prevention specialists, and chemical dependency nurses will use this book to understand the nature of psychiatric disorders and uncover valuable guidelines on their treatment and management in the context of primary addictions treatment. It includes an introduction to the rationale and clinical approaches of cognitive therapy; a special section on psychiatric medications; and coverage of mood, anxiety, psychotic, cognitive, eating, and personality disorders. Dual Disorders: Essentials for Assessment and Treatment contains information that is vital and fundamental to effective treatment. It fills a void in the training and education of addictions counselors, helping you become a better diagnostician, develop better treatment plans, and communicate more meaningfully with psychiatrists and other mental health professionals. It will also increase your understanding of psychopathology and psychotherapy and decrease the frustration that can arise from a lack of understanding and planning. Specifics that you need to know to do this are thoroughly covered, including: - - elements of a comprehensive assessment of dual disorders - - clinical considerations in the treatment of the depressed addict - - pitfalls of treating patients with personality disorders - - the borderline patient--what to do and what not to do - - the psychopathic patient--anticipating and effectively addressing manipulation - - practical approaches in treating patients with eating disorders - - effective treatment of sexual trauma - - cognitive therapy approaches to treating dual disorders - - what to expect when your patient is referred to a psychiatrist for psychotropic medication - Unlike other books on this topic, Dual Disorders: Essentials for Assessment and Treatment is not a summary of research on dual diagnosis nor an overview of general programmatic considerations in treatment delivery. Rather, it is directed specifically to addictions counselors involved in the day-to-day treatment of dually diagnosed patients, providing detailed descriptions of the major psychiatric disorders as well as useful guidelines and treatment approaches.

Aerospace Technologies and Applications for Dual Use - - Bog - River Publishers - Plusbog.dk

Aerospace Technologies and Applications for Dual Use - - Bog - River Publishers - Plusbog.dk

The events occurred in the last years have shown how the threat related to both intentional and natural disasters could bring the civil and the military worlds closer in the conceivement and deployment of countermeasures as well as in the identification of effective strategies for enhancing the Planet safety and security. In this frame, the concept of dual use ? the set of technologies and applications that can be exploited for both civil and military purposes - becomes a key-topic. In addition, the aerospace is a strategic building block in the deployment of a network centric environment that aims at the global protection of the mankind. Aerospace is also a natural environment for dual use: many of the related enabling technologies have been first developed for the military world and then applied to civil ? including commercial - purposes. On September 12-14, 2007 an International Symposium has been held in Roma, Italy, joining the dual use approach with the aerospace technology: the international community has been gathered around the key-topic: aerospace technologies and applications for dual use. The event has called experts and operators from the military and civil community, belonging to industry, scientific and governmental institutions. The common aim was an effective convergence between the available and perspected technologies for the civil and military worlds as well as the conceivement of applications that can take the maximum benefit from the dual approach, optimizing the available economic resources. The Symposium has included invited-only contributions and an industrial panel. The main results of the Symposium, derived from key-note speeches, invited lectures, panel discussions and conclusions have created the starting material to develop this Edited Book.

Dual-Channel Supply Chain Decisions with Risk-Averse Behavior - - Bog - World Scientific Europe Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Dual-Channel Supply Chain Decisions with Risk-Averse Behavior - - Bog - World Scientific Europe Ltd - Plusbog.dk

In the era of e-commerce and digitalization, new commercial patterns and opportunities are emerging. For example, in addition to traditional reselling marketing channels, manufacturers can easily open direct channels using a variety of digital marketing strategies. These new marketing channels will cause conflict and competition between manufacturers and resellers. This raises the important question of how to make optimal decisions for multiple players in dual-channel supply chain contexts. Within changing and uncertain operation environments, business enterprises must face tougher challenges than before to survive in competitive markets. This book aims to address representative decision-making problems in dual-channel supply chains with risk-averse channel members. The most recently developed risk assessment technique, Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR), will be adopted as the predominant criterion to measure the risk-averse attitude. Based on game theory, important issues such as channel selection, pricing, order quantity, manufacturer encroachment, greening strategy, consumer return policies, financing strategies, channel coordination, contract design, information asymmetry, and capacity constraint will be modeled and analyzed. This book will help readers better understand operations management in dual-channel supply chain contexts with risk-averse behaviors, and will also provide effective techniques and tools for researchers and offer managerial insights for practitioners.
