Zero Trust Journey Across the Digital Estate - Abbas Kudrati - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

"Zero Trust is the strategy that organizations need to implement to stay ahead of cyber threats, period. The industry has 30 plus years of categorical failure that shows us that our past approaches, while earnest in their efforts, have not stopped attackers. Zero Trust strategically focuses on and systematically removes the power and initiatives hackers and adversaries need to win as they circumvent security controls. This book will help you and your organization have a better understanding of what Zero Trust really is, recognize its history, and gain prescriptive knowledge that will help you and your enterprise finally begin beating the adversaries in the chess match that is cyber security strategy." Dr. Chase Cunningham (aka Dr. Zero Trust), Cyberware Expert Today’s organizations require a new security approach that effectively adapts to the challenges of the modern environment, embraces the mobile workforce, and protects people, devices, apps, and data wherever they are located. Zero Trust is increasingly becoming the critical security approach of choice for many enterprises and governments; however, security leaders often struggle with the significant shifts in strategy and architecture required to holistically implement Zero Trust. This book seeks to provide an end-to-end view of the Zero Trust approach across organizations’ digital estates that includes strategy, business imperatives, architecture, solutions, human elements, and implementation approaches that could significantly enhance these organizations'' success in learning, adapting, and implementing Zero Trust. The book concludes with a discussion of the future of Zero Trust in areas such as artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, operational technology (OT), and governance, risk, and compliance. Towards Nearly Zero Energy - Annarita Ferrante - Bog - Elsevier Science & Technology - Plusbog.dk

Towards Nearly Zero Energy: Urban Settings in the Mediterranean Climate discusses tactics that can be used to effectively reduce energy consumption towards zero energy. With energy usage in buildings accounting for over 40% of primary energy use and 24% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, this remains an unavoidable objective. The book looks at the life of the systems of energy production from renewable sources amidst the exceptionally challenging global economic crisis that the Mediterranean areas and other societies are currently experiencing. By using an innovative and interdisciplinary approach of socio-oriented technological design, the book indicates tools and measures that can be developed at the public, legislative, and market levels to counterbalance the large pay-back times of energy efficiency measures. In particular, the book displays guidelines and best practices to activate new forms of economic incentives in order to attract potential investors that demonstrate that a large set of possible solutions is technically feasible to achieve nearly zero energy, even in high energy consuming circumstances and urban settings. Furthermore, by discussing and comparing the economic and energy impact of different technology options, this work offers guidelines and best practices to activate new cost-effective forms and social incentives in order to attract both potential investors and motivate the urban stakeholders toward nearly zero energy.

Ending Zero Tolerance - Derek W. Black - Bog - New York University Press - Plusbog.dk

Ending Zero Tolerance - Derek W. Black - Bog - New York University Press - Plusbog.dk

Answers the calls of grassroots communities pressing for integration and increased education funding with a complete rethinking of school disciplineIn the era of zero tolerance, we are flooded with stories about schools issuing draconian punishments for relatively innocent behavior. One student was suspended for chewing a Pop-Tart into the shape of a gun. Another was expelled for cursing on social media from home. Suspension and expulsion rates have doubled over the past three decades as zero tolerance policies have become the normal response to a host of minor infractions that extend well beyond just drugs and weapons. Students from all demographic groups have suffered, but minority and special needs students have suffered the most. On average, middle and high schools suspend one out of four African American students at least once a year. The effects of these policies are devastating. Just one suspension in the ninth grade doubles the likelihood that a student will drop out. Fifty percent of students who drop out are subsequently unemployed. Eighty percent of prisoners are high school drop outs. The risks associated with suspension and expulsion are so high that, as a practical matter, they amount to educational death penalties, not behavioral correction tools. Most important, punitive discipline policies undermine the quality of education that innocent bystanders receive as well—the exact opposite of what schools intend. Derek Black, a former attorney with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, weaves stories about individual students, lessons from social science, and the outcomes of courts cases to unearth a shockingly irrational system of punishment. While schools and legislatures have proven unable and unwilling to amend their failing policies, Ending Zero Tolerance argues for constitutional protections to check abuses in school discipline and lays out theories by which courts should re-engage to enforce students’ rights and support broader reforms.

Zero Interest Policy and the New Abnormal - Michael Beenstock - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

Zero Interest Policy and the New Abnormal - Michael Beenstock - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

In the ''New Normal'' central banks set their interest rate to zero and print money through massive quantitative easing, while finance ministries run huge fiscal deficits. Yet inflation remains minimal. Zero Interest Policy and the New Abnormal explains why. It also explains why the New Normal is really the New Abnormal, and why it can''t last. This study traces the academic roots of the New Abnormal to a conceptual confusion about the ''natural rates of interest'', and postmodernism in macroeconomics, exemplified by the DSGE (dynamic stochastic general equilibrium) movement. It develops a theory of ''existential risk'' which is concerned with the collapse of political economies such the Bretton Woods system and the New Abnormal. The book demonstrates that existential risk expresses itself in the growing gap between the natural rate of interest, measured by the rate of return on capital, and the real rate of interest, as well as in the development of cryptocurrencies. Beenstock develops a theory of ''kinetic inflation'' based on Keynes'' liquidity trap, which accounts for the absence of inflation in the New Abnormal, and predicts its outbreak when zero interest policy ends. He also explores the adverse social consequences of the New Abnormal for fertility, pensions, house prices, economic inequality, and intergenerational equity and establishes a causal link from the New Abnormal to Covid-19 mitigation policy, and from the latter to the intensification of the New Abnormal. Finally, it assesses the prospects for ending the New Abnormal, and an orderly return to the Old Normal. The alternative is to crash-out of the New Abnormal chaotically.

Automatic Defense Against Zero-day Polymorphic Worms in Communication Networks - Mohssen Mohammed - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Automatic Defense Against Zero-day Polymorphic Worms in Communication Networks - Mohssen Mohammed - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Able to propagate quickly and change their payload with each infection, polymorphic worms have been able to evade even the most advanced intrusion detection systems (IDS). And, because zero-day worms require only seconds to launch flooding attacks on your servers, using traditional methods such as manually creating and storing signatures to defend against these threats is just too slow. Bringing together critical knowledge and research on the subject, Automatic Defense Against Zero-day Polymorphic Worms in Communication Networks details a new approach for generating automated signatures for unknown polymorphic worms. It presents experimental results on a new method for polymorphic worm detection and examines experimental implementation of signature-generation algorithms and double-honeynet systems. If you need some background, the book includes an overview of the fundamental terms and concepts in network security, including the various security models. Clearing up the misconceptions about the value of honeypots, it explains how they can be useful in securing your networks, and identifies open-source tools you can use to create your own honeypot. There’s also a chapter with references to helpful reading resources on automated signature generation systems. The authors describe cutting-edge attack detection approaches and detail new algorithms to help you generate your own automated signatures for polymorphic worms. Explaining how to test the quality of your generated signatures, the text will help you develop the understanding required to effectively protect your communication networks. Coverage includes intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS), zero-day polymorphic worm collection methods, double-honeynet system configurations, and the implementation of double-honeynet architectures.

Losing the Cybersecurity War - Steve King - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Losing the Cybersecurity War - Steve King - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

This book explains the five pillars or battlefields of cybersecurity and how a Zero Trust approach can change the advantage on each battlefield. We have taken a deep dive into each of five battlefields where we have a decided disadvantage due to constitutional structure and moral behavioral guidelines, where we provide examples of how we got here, what we can do about it, why we got here, and how we can avoid these traps in the future. This is a unique viewpoint that has never been explored – the five battlefields include Economics, Technology, Information, Education, and Leadership – and how each has contributed to our current disadvantage on the global stage. We go on to discuss how Zero Trust can change the game to create an advantage for us going forward. The credibility of Zero Trust stems directly from the father of Zero Trust, John Kindervag, who says, “And now, Steve has written a new book on Zero Trust called Losing the Cybersecurity War: And What We Can Do to Stop It . It is undeniably the best Zero Trust book yet written. While other writers have focused on implementing Zero Trust from their perspectives, Steve focuses on why Zero Trust is so important on the modern cybersecurity battlefield. His concept of the five cyber battlefields is a great insight that will help us win the cyberwar. By weaving Zero Trust principles throughout these five concepts, Steve demonstrates how the ideas and efforts involved in building Zero Trust environments will lead to a profound shift in terrain advantage. No longer will attackers own the high ground. As defenders and protectors, we can leverage modern technology in a Zero Trust way to keep our data and assets safe from infiltration and exploitation.”

Zero Poverty Society - Ive Marx - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

Zero Poverty Society - Ive Marx - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

The notion that every person living amidst the relative affluence of the rich world has a right to a minimum income enabling social participation, be it frugally and soberly, holds as a fundamental matter of social justice to most people. But how can we make sure that every person has a decent minimum income allowing for a life with dignity in societies rich enough to afford such a right? How can we ensure that minimum income support is cost-effective and compatible with other goals such as promoting work effort, self-reliance, and upward mobility? How can political support for such schemes be fostered and made robust?Zero Poverty Society assesses the current state of minimum income protection in the rich world, building on original empirical analysis. It also engages with debates on topics as diverse as optimal targeting and means-testing, administrative complexity, non-take-up, behavioural economics, the political economy of minimum income protection, and basic income. Marchal and Marx conclude that more adequate poverty prevention is possible, without the costs having to be prohibitive. However, they are sceptical about ''silver-bullet'' solutions such as basic income. Adequate minimum income protection is not a matter of getting one scheme or policy right. It is a matter of getting multiple policy levers right, in the right configuration. Incremental, context-conscious expansion is the way forward if we really care about the most vulnerable.
