Food and Drink: the cultural context is the first text to provide a comprehensive and academically rigorous introduction to a range of key themes in the field of food, drink and culture. This edited text explores the complex relationships between food and drink, and individuals and society. It provides analysis of social conditions that shape these relationships and examine their consequences on areas such as health, the environment, the distinctiveness of cultures, and the cohesiveness of communities. The Recovery-Stress Questionnaires - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The Recovery-Stress Questionnaires - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The Recovery-Stress Questionnaires (RESTQs) identifies the current recovery-stress states and provides a complete picture of the actual extent of stress and recovery. Written to support those using the RESTQ, this manual offers advice on scope and application, facets of stress and recovery, versions and scoring, interpretation of results, and reliability and validity for each of the five forms of the questionnaire. The questionnaire is based on the hypothesis that an accumulation of stress in different areas of life, with insufficient opportunity for recovery, leads to a critical psychophysiological state. The RESTQ measures the frequency of current stress symptoms along with the frequency of recovery-associated activities to offer a differentiated picture of the current recovery-stress state. There are five forms of the RESTQ: a general version (RESTQ-Basic) with seven stress scales and five recovery scales is the foundation for the specific versions for athletes (RESTQ-Sport), for coaches (RESTQ-Coach), for children and adolescents (RESTQ-CA), and for the work context (RESTQ-Work). All versions take a modular structure and contain scales measuring specific aspects of stress and recovery in their field. These scales provide valuable information immediately on areas where improvement is needed in stress and recovery research across a range of applied settings. Drawing on experiences and scientific findings from sport to make them usable for an expanded understanding of recovery in the fields of health, work, and other related areas, this manual is written for the scientific community, applied psychologists and health scientists, and interested readers.

Food and Drink Tourism - Sally Everett - Bog - Sage Publications Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Urban Recovery - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Urban Recovery - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

This book calls for re-conceptualising urban recovery by exploring the intersection of reconstruction and displacement in volatile contexts in the Global South. It explores the spatial, social, artistic, and political conditions that promote urban recovery. Reconstruction and displacement have often been studied independently as two different processes of physical recovery and human migration towards safety and shelter. It is hoped that by intersecting or even bridging reconstruction with displacement we can cross-fertilize and exploit both discourses to reach a greater understanding of the notion of urban recovery as a holistic and multi-layered process. This book brings multidisciplinary perspectives into conversation with each other to look beyond the conflict-related displacement and reconstruction and into the greater processes of crises and recovery. It uses empirical research to examine how trauma, crisis, and recovery overlap, coexist, collide and redefine each other. The core exploration of this edited collection is to understand how the oppositional framing of destruction versus reconstruction and place-making versus displacement can be disrupted; how displacement is spatialized; and how reconstruction is extended to the displaced people rebuilding their lives, environments, and memories in new locations. In the process, displacement is framed as agency, the displaced as social capital, post-conflict urban environments as archives, and reconstructions as socio-spatial practices. With local and international insights from scholars across disciplines, this book will appeal to academics and students of urban studies, architecture, and social sciences, as well as those involved in the process of urban recovery.

Rethinking Disaster Recovery - - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing Plc - Plusbog.dk

Rethinking Disaster Recovery - - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing Plc - Plusbog.dk

Rethinking Disaster Recovery focuses attention on the social inequalities that existed on the Gulf Coast before Hurricane Katrina and how they have been magnified or altered since the storm. With a focus on social axes of power such as gender, sexuality, race, and class, this book tells new and personalized stories of recovery that help to deepen our understanding of the disaster. Specifically, the volume examines ways in which gender and sexuality issues have been largely ignored in the emerging post-Katrina literature. The voices of young racial and ethnic minorities growing up in post-Katrina New Orleans also rise to the surface as they discuss their outlook on future employment. Environmental inequities and the slow pace of recovery for many parts of the city are revealed through narrative accounts from volunteers helping to rebuild. Scholars, who were themselves impacted, tell personal stories of trauma, displacement, and recovery as they connect their biographies to a larger social context. These insights into the day-to-day lives of survivors over the past ten years help illuminate the complex disaster recovery process and provide key lessons for all-too-likely future disasters. How do experiences of recovery vary along several axes of difference? Why are some able to recover quickly while others struggle? What is it like to live in a city recovering from catastrophe and what are the prospects for the future? Through on-the-ground observation and keen sociological analysis, Rethinking Disaster Recovery answers some of these questions and suggests interesting new avenues for research.

Financial Schemes for Resilient Flood Recovery - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Financial Schemes for Resilient Flood Recovery - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Financial schemes for flood recovery, if properly designed and implemented, might increase flood resilience. However, options for the increase of flood resilience during the recovery phase are to a large extent overlooked and the diversity of existing schemes shows that there has been a lack of consensus on how to achieve resilient flood recovery. Financial Schemes for Resilient Flood Recovery investigates how the implementation of financial schemes (government relief subsidies, insurance schemes, buy-outs, etc.) might increase flood resilience. The chapters included in this edited volume address the following questions: Shall government relief subsidies exist when there is flood insurance in place, and, if so, how might they both be coordinated? Where (or how) to decide about build back better incentives and where to go for planned relocation programs? What is the distributional equity of financial schemes for flood recovery, and has it been sufficiently treated? The book covers different approaches to flood recovery schemes with specific intervention rationales in different countries. Empirical evidence provided clearly shows the great diversity of financial flood recovery schemes. This diversity of state-funded schemes, private-based insurance schemes, and hybrids as well as planned relocation schemes indicates a lack of a consistent and strategic approach in flood risk management and flood resilience about flood recovery. The chapters in this book were originally published in the Environmental Hazards.

Tasting Tourism: Travelling for Food and Drink - Priscilla Boniface - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Tasting Tourism: Travelling for Food and Drink - Priscilla Boniface - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Along with basic practical reasons, our practices concerning food and drink are driven by context and environment, belief and convention, aspiration and desire to display - in short, by culture. Similarly, culture guides how tourism is used and operates. This book examines food and drink tourism, as it is now and is likely to develop, through a cultural ''lens''. It asks: what is food and drink tourism, and why have food and drink provisions and information points become tourist destinations in their own right, rather than remaining among a number of tourism features and components? While it offers a range of international examples, the main focus is on food and drink tourism in the UK. What with the current diversification of tourism in rural areas, the increased popularity of this type of tourism in the UK, the series of BSE, vCJD and foot and mouth crises in British food production, and the cultural and ethnic fusion in British towns and cities, it makes a particularly rich place in which to explore this subject. The author concludes that the future of food and drink tourism lies in diversity and distinctiveness. In an era of globalisation, there is a particular desire to enjoy varied, rather than mono-cultural ambiance and experience. She also notes that there is an immediacy of gratification in food and drink consumption which has become a general requirement of contemporary society.
