Zero - Ravi P. Agarwal - Bog - Elsevier Science & Technology - Plusbog.dk

Zero - Ravi P. Agarwal - Bog - Elsevier Science & Technology - Plusbog.dk

Zero indicates the absence of a quantity or a magnitude. It is so deeply rooted in our psyche today that nobody will possibly ask "What is zero?" From the beginning of the very creation of life, the feeling of lack of something or the vision of emptiness/void has been embedded by the creator in all living beings. While recognizing different things as well as the absence of one of these things are easy, it is not so easy to fathom the complete nothingness viz. the universal void. Although we have a very good understanding of nothingness or, equivalently, a zero today, our forefathers had devoted countless hours and arrived at the representation and integration of zero and its compatibility not only with all non-zero numbers but also with all conceivable environments only after many painstaking centuries. Zero can be viewed/perceived in two distinct forms: (i) as a number in our mundane affairs and (ii) as the horrific void or Absolute Reality in the spiritual plane/the ultimate state of mind. Presented are the reasons why zero is a landmark discovery and why it has the potential to conjure up in an intense thinker the dreadful nothingness unlike those of other numbers such as 1, 2, and 3. Described are the representation of zero and its history including its deeper understanding via calculus, its occurrences and various roles in different countries as well as in sciences/engineering along with a stress on the Indian zero that is accepted as the time-invariant unique absolute zero. This is followed by the significant distinction between mathematics and computational mathematics and the concerned differences between the unique absolute zero and non-unique relative numerical zeros and their impact and importance in computations on a digital computer.

Zero-carbon Homes - Joanna Williams - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Housing is a major contributor to CO2 emissions in Europe and America today and the construction of new homes offers an opportunity to address this issue. Providing homes that achieve "zero carbon", "carbon neutral", "zero-net energy" or "energy-plus" standard is becoming the goal of more innovative house-builders globally, whilst energy providers seek to decarbonise the energy supply to new and existing development. Various new technical systems for achieving these goals are beginning to emerge. For example the passive house whose energy requirement for space heating and cooling is almost zero; the smart grid that has revolutionized the management of energy, whilst enabling the connection of small-scale, renewable energy producers and electric vehicles to the grid; or the European super-grid which will enable zero carbon energy to be generated in the Sahara desert and stored in Norway. This book explores the diverse approaches that are being adopted around the world to deliver zero carbon homes and the different societal systems and geographic circumstances in which they have developed. It postulates a roadmap for delivering zero carbon homes, together with a toolbox approach for policy and practice to suit particular national and local circumstances. A series of case studies are presented that offer lessons for delivering zero carbon homes. These examples are also used to demonstrate how prototype systems can move into the mainstream. The book highlights some of the instruments and mechanisms that could be used to support this transformation and addresses the wider implications of introducing these innovative systems in terms of industry, lifestyle and urban form.

Zero Trust Journey Across the Digital Estate - Abbas Kudrati - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Zero Trust Journey Across the Digital Estate - Abbas Kudrati - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

"Zero Trust is the strategy that organizations need to implement to stay ahead of cyber threats, period. The industry has 30 plus years of categorical failure that shows us that our past approaches, while earnest in their efforts, have not stopped attackers. Zero Trust strategically focuses on and systematically removes the power and initiatives hackers and adversaries need to win as they circumvent security controls. This book will help you and your organization have a better understanding of what Zero Trust really is, recognize its history, and gain prescriptive knowledge that will help you and your enterprise finally begin beating the adversaries in the chess match that is cyber security strategy." Dr. Chase Cunningham (aka Dr. Zero Trust), Cyberware Expert Today’s organizations require a new security approach that effectively adapts to the challenges of the modern environment, embraces the mobile workforce, and protects people, devices, apps, and data wherever they are located. Zero Trust is increasingly becoming the critical security approach of choice for many enterprises and governments; however, security leaders often struggle with the significant shifts in strategy and architecture required to holistically implement Zero Trust. This book seeks to provide an end-to-end view of the Zero Trust approach across organizations’ digital estates that includes strategy, business imperatives, architecture, solutions, human elements, and implementation approaches that could significantly enhance these organizations'' success in learning, adapting, and implementing Zero Trust. The book concludes with a discussion of the future of Zero Trust in areas such as artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, operational technology (OT), and governance, risk, and compliance. The book is ideal for business decision makers, cybersecurity leaders, security technical professionals, and organizational change agents who want to modernize their digital estate with the Zero Trust approach.

Net-Zero and Positive Energy Communities - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

This book presents a methodology for the design, construction, monitoring, optimization, and post-occupancy evaluation of net-zero and positive-energy communities based on the experiences gained in the EU Horizon 2020 ZERO-PLUS project. It describes the steps, tools, and methods developed during the project, providing practical information for the energy and construction sector that will be of interest to students, engineers, architects, developers, and professionals working around high performance architecture and sustainable communities. Through the ZERO-PLUS project, a consortium of 32 partners from eight countries, including academic institutions, technology providers, architects, and construction companies, designed four communities covering completely different geo-climatic regions, construction practices, and cultural backgrounds in Cyprus, Italy, France, and the UK. The communities were designed, optimized, constructed, monitored, handed over to tenants, post-occupancy evaluated, and troubleshooted through a system of continuous collaboration and data acquisition. This book presents these case studies and shows how the project targets of reducing electricity consumption below 20 kWh/m 2 /y, increasing electricity production from Renewable Energy Systems to over 50 kWh/m 2 /y, and at cheaper costs when compared to current zero-energy buildings were reached and surpassed. These cases demonstrate that a holistic and interactive approach to design and construction can bring communities a high standard of sustainability. The key features of the book include: - Practical guidance drawn from the interdisciplinary, international, and remote cooperation between experts from academia and industry across the construction sector - A survey of the state-of-the-art on net-zero and positive-energy communities, including the experience and the lessons learned from previous projects and from the ZERO-PLUS project - Descriptions of novel emerging renewable energy technologies, integrated into real case study communities to achieve the energy generation target of the communities - A comprehensive set of approaches, tools, guidelines, best practices, challenges, and lessons learned from the five-year ZERO-PLUS project and the completion of four residential case studies to inform the reader of how to achieve affordable net-zero energy communities - Four typologies of residential communities located in different climatic conditions are presented, touching on the critical aspects of the design, construction, monitoring, and occupancy phase - A discussion of future trends for developing communities that are more liveable, accessible, and sustainable and which can comply with new energy policies in a way that is affordable for the owners and residents.
