Trio 65 ½ was the trio that won all the jazz-competitions in the mid 60’s and were “talk of the town”. The three incredibly talented musicians listened to their idol, the pianist Bill Evans’ LP Trio 64 and halfway through 1965 Ole Streenberg came up with the name: Trio 65 ½. It’s with great joy that Storyville Records present Trio 65 ½’s music from 1966 and 1967. This album is proof that Danish avantgardejazz from the 1960’s was at an international level, and it deserves to be listened to – both due to its historical value, but also its significant and extraordinary sound.

One of Denmark's most prominent bassists, J esper Lundgaard formed his own jazz trio in 2004 along with Hans Ulrik (Tenor Sax) and Niclas Knudsen (Guitar). The trio describes their music as a playground where they try out new compositions and pay homage to great icons in the history of Jazz. The  Jesper Lundgaard Trio 's album 2016 contains recordings of 8 original compositions written by each band member and an updated version of two standards: “ The meaning of the Blues ” by Bobby Troup and “ Naima ” by John Coltrane. The music is fresh, lyrical and blues oriented with a gentle touch of Nordic folklore. “ This album investigates some blues aspects, reflecting the times and our personal impressions. Not every theme is strictly a blues progression, but they all have a bluesy feel. We have tried to create an intimate, dry and intense album, utilizing a minimalistic approach ” says Jesper Lundgaard .

Just This, the latest album from Lars Jansson Trio due out October 19th, is an album of immense talent and musical excess from three of Scandinavia’s most renowned jazz musicians.   Lars Jansson is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger and educator. He was born in 1951, and grew up in Örebro, Sweden, where he was bored by his lessons at the community music school. In his early teens, a relative lent him records with Miles Davis, Ben Webster, and Mose Allison, creating a solid foundation for his musical education. Jansson’s career has been in full flourish since 1970, and he has for the main part been focusing on the trio format. Lars Jansson Trio has long been one of the most renowned jazz groups in his native Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia as well. In 1998, he was nominated for the Danish Jazzpar Prize and he became the first jazz professor in Aarhus, Denmark. He was honored in Denmark with a Grammy in 2001 for ”Best International Album,” with the album Hope.   Lars Jansson Trio are now ready to release their new album Just This. Assisted by Thomas Fonnesbæk on bass and Paul Svanberg on drums, Jansson has created a body of work that deals with various themes of life, and pays tribute to some of Jansson’s heroes. Fonnesbæk is a well-respected bassist in his own right, playing with the likes of Justin Kauflin and Alex Riel, and Svanberg, who is Jansson’s son, is a widely used drummer on the Danish jazz scene. The album, 13 tracks in total, comes by as a beautiful and diverse collection of tunes that display the collective talents of three very gifted and experienced musicians.   The title track Just This, as well as the track No Purpose, deal with how we are all defined by our culture and upbringing. To experience and accept all that happens in the ”flow” that is our life is no easy matter. It takes practice and an open mind to ignore expectations and pre-conceived attitudes, and completely immerse oneself in the present as it unfolds. Waltz for Bill is a tribute to Bill Evans, originally recorded in 2003, and now presented in a trio format. Receiving is inspired by the art of being able to receive, inspired by Jansson previous compositions Giving-Receiving and Giving. Intimate Talk is the conversation between guru and disciple, but it can also be the kind of low-key, intimate and magical conversation one has with another person. Closing track To Have Or To Be, a title borrowed from the book by Erich Fromm, is about finding the balance between our career and material life and the spiritual aspect of our lives, and the dilemmas related to this, concluding an album that is equally focused on life and great musicianship.   "Jazz music is one of the few human activities that succeeds in combining responsibility for the collective with individual freedom. Release November 09, 2018.   Thomas Fonnesbæk and Justin Kauflin are ready to follow up on the critically acclaimed album Synethesia from 2017. This time they are joined by Billy Williams on drums, making this a trio record.   The album, entitled Sharing, was recorded during November 2017 in Gothenburg, Sweden. It consists of 10 tracks, with the main part composed by Fonnesbæk, alongside one improvisation and a rendition of the classic track Inception, written by McCoy Tyner. On Sharing the trio exemplifies the fact that jazz has never been a more international art form than it is today, and that new generations continue to set their own fascinating imprint on the music.   Opening track Point Of No Return starts with a ride-cymbal that sets a kind of upbeat but still very spacious sound, and within the first minute the piano and bass kicks in giving the intro a form that slowly transcends into the theme of the song. First Dance is as the title suggest, a percussion-heavy song that invites the listener to dance to the rhythms. Title-track Sharing is a beautiful ballad that really displays the immense talents of the trio, with the piano in a leading role and almost playful in the way it explores the melody and chords within the song. Tokyo Tower is one of the more upbeat songs, shapeshifting between a kind of metric funk and more traditional jazz within the blink of an eye. The album closes on a high beat, with the trio’s rendition of Inception. Presented here in a very high tempo, the trio once again displays what they are capable of, this time playing fast and precise, without ever sounding forced.   Danish bassist Thomas Fonnesbæk is a fascinating musician who exudes technical brilliance and a superior sense of rhythm, as well as a melodic and harmonic sensitivity reminiscent of Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen that never overshadows his own unique style.   Justin Kauflin is one of the great piano talents of recent times. Renowned trumpetist Clark Terry and Quincy Jones has both taken the young prodigy under their wings, playing a crucial part in his success. The maturity he displays and focus with which he plays is exceptional.   Billy Williams is the childhood friend of Kauflin and has worked professionally with a long list of great jazz musicians such as Christian McBride, Larry Willis, Steve Wilson, Benny Golson and Ellis Marsalis Kauflin and Fonnesbæk met for the first time when they were put together for a show at Montmartre in Copenhagen.   Kauflin was so impressed with Fonnesbæk, that he invited him to go on tour with him in Europe and Asia. Both Justin Kauflin and Thomas Fonnesbæk perceive music as colour, a form of synesthesia where one sense stimulates another. It is an aptitude that permeates this record and boosts the level of interplay to new heights. As a result, almost everything is possible and the music becomes boundless when Kauflin, Fonnesbæk and Billy Williams let themselves go. In all of this, Williams plays a major role. With the revival of the original close atmosphere and great acoustics, Montmartre has successfully resurrected its reputation as one of Europe?s best jazz clubs, and one where musicians love to play. Nikolaj Bentzon belongs to one of the strongest generations in Danish jazz, having helped lead it in new directions throughout the 1990s. Ever since his first trio with Thomas Ovesen and Jonas Johansen, Nikolaj Bentzon has covered a lot of musical territory but always left a deep impression. These two evenings in May 2013 saw a return to Bentzon?s first love ? the classic Piano trio - with Thomas Fonnesbæk on Bass and Winard Harper on Drums.
