The Blue Book Of Guitar Amplifiers is the ultimate reference tool that no discerning amp buyer should be without. Darius Milhaud: The Blue Train

French composer and teacher, Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prolific composer of the 20th century as a member of 'Les Six'. His compositions remain highly regarded, the Ballet, The Blue Train, being no exception. Milhaud 's compositions are influenced by jazz and polytonality, as exemplified in The Blue Train. Composed in 1924, The Blue Train is a Ballet based on a scenario by Jean Cocteau, and composed for the Ballets Russes. The title is taken from a night train called The Blue Train, which transported wealth passengers from Calais to the Mediterranean Sea. In his reduction for Piano, Milhaud makes use of variation in articulation, complex rhythms, chromaticism, accidentals, harmonics, altering tempos, variation in dynamics and a wide tessitura, amongst other aspects. Milhaud 's The Blue Train is essential to all advanced pianists seeking modern and exciting repertoire.

Antonin's New World

Antonin’s New World is an excellent piece of musical theatre featuring a comedy act for triangle soloist and band. The music itself does not sound comical, being based on Anton Dvorak’s Symphony in E Minor (From the New World), but the right mix of seriousness and humour brings a surprising effect. With a bit of acting talent from your triangle soloist, this interpretation of the well known classical melody will be a major hit. The Blue and the Gray

To coincide with with the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, The Blue and the Gray is a fitting musical tribute to America's history. Clare Grundman's memorable folk song medley has been adapted for string orchestra by Robert Longfield and includes Kingdom Coming, Marching Through Georgia, Tenting Tonight, The Yellow Rose of Texas, The Bonnie Blue Flag, Aura Lee, Dixie, The Battle Cry of Freedom and Battle Hymn of the Republic.

The Weeping White Room

The Weeping White Room for Ensemble was composed by Bent Sørensen in 2002. Programme Note: As usual the title came first - "The Weeping White Room". But where is that room ? and what is it ? New Orleans Funk

Funk is a very rhythmic music style that finds its origin in the 1960s. The American artist James Brown and the New Orleans-based group The Meters are considered the founders of this genre. Funk is characterized by an independentbass line that emphasizes each first beat of the bar (the one), as well as by a rhythmic combination of syncopated melodies and accompaniments with lots of harmonic additions. This style-conscious composition by Peter KleineSchaars contains a healthy blend of the harmonic ingredients as well as the rhythmic challenges of funk music. On the one hand, New Orleans Funk is an educational exercise with the rhythmic cells 9,10, 14, 15 and 16: on the otherhand, it is a funky highlight of your rehearsal or concert!

Children for a New World

Children for a New World was written at a time when many children worldwide skipped school and took to the streets to campaign for better climate control. This youth movement, ‘Fridays for Future’, was inspired by the Swedish student, Greta Thunberg, and helps everybody to think about the future, for us and our children. Young people are important for the future of our music bands too. Wind bands can play a significant part in children’s social and musical lives and are an ideal way to initiate cooperation between primary schools and the local community. Children for a New World is a good way to integrate class bands into local wind bands and provides a unique opportunity to perform in a larger ensemble. Accompanied by a youth or adult band, or even both, the class band will be at the centre of the performance.In Children for a New World you may recognise fragments from Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, ‘From the New World’.
