Multilevel and Longitudinal Modeling with IBM SPSS

Multilevel and Longitudinal Modeling with IBM SPSS

Multilevel and Longitudinal Modeling with IBM SPSS Third Edition demonstrates how to use the multilevel and longitudinal modeling techniques available in IBM SPSS Versions 25-27. Annotated screenshots with all relevant output provide readers with a step-by-step understanding of each technique as they are shown how to navigate the program. Throughout diagnostic tools data management issues and related graphics are introduced. SPSS commands show the flow of the menu structure and how to facilitate model building while annotated syntax is also available for those who prefer this approach. Extended examples illustrating the logic of model development and evaluation are included throughout the book demonstrating the context and rationale of the research questions and the steps around which the analyses are structured. The book opens with the conceptual and methodological issues associated with multilevel and longitudinal modeling followed by a discussion of SPSS data management techniques that facilitate working with multilevel longitudinal or cross-classified data sets. The next few chapters introduce the basics of multilevel modeling developing a multilevel model extensions of the basic two-level model (e. g. three-level models models for binary and ordinal outcomes) and troubleshooting techniques for everyday-use programming and modeling problems along with potential solutions. Models for investigating individual and organizational change are next developed followed by models with multivariate outcomes and finally models with cross-classified and multiple membership data structures. The book concludes with thoughts about ways to expand on the various multilevel and longitudinal modeling techniques introduced and issues (e. g. missing data sample weights) to keep in mind in conducting multilevel analyses. Key features of the third edition: Thoroughly updated throughout to reflect IBM SPSS Versions 26-27. Introduction to fixed-effects regression for examining change over time where random-effects modeling may not be an optimal choice. Additional treatment of key topics specifically aligned with multilevel modeling (e. g. models with binary and ordinal outcomes). Expanded coverage of models with cross-classified and multiple membership data structures. Added discussion on model checking for improvement (e. g. examining residuals locating outliers). Further discussion of alternatives for dealing with missing data and the use of sample weights within multilevel data structures. Supported by online data sets the book's practical approach makes it an essential text for graduate-level courses on multilevel longitudinal latent variable modeling multivariate statistics or advanced quantitative techniques taught in departments of business education health psychology and sociology. The book will also prove appealing to researchers in these fields. The book is designed to provide an excellent supplement to Heck and Thomas's An Introduction to Multilevel Modeling Techniques Fourth Edition; however it can also be used with any multilevel or longitudinal modeling book or as a stand-alone text.

Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing

Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing

Continuing in the footsteps of the pioneering first edition Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing Second Edition explores the most up-to-date signal and image processing methods for dealing with remote sensing problems. Although most data from satellites are in image form signal processing can contribute significantly in extracting information from remotely sensed waveforms or time series data. This book combines both providing a unique balance between the role of signal processing and image processing. Featuring contributions from worldwide experts this book continues to emphasize mathematical approaches. Not limited to satellite data it also considers signals and images from hydroacoustic seismic microwave and other sensors. Chapters cover important topics in signal and image processing and discuss techniques for dealing with remote sensing problems. Each chapter offers an introduction to the topic before delving into research results making the book accessible to a broad audience. This second edition reflects the considerable advances that have occurred in the field with 23 of 27 chapters being new or entirely rewritten. Coverage includes new mathematical developments such as compressive sensing empirical mode decomposition and sparse representation as well as new component analysis methods such as non-negative matrix and tensor factorization. The book also presents new experimental results on SAR and hyperspectral image processing. The emphasis is on mathematical techniques that will far outlast the rapidly changing sensor software and hardware technologies. Written for industrial and academic researchers and graduate students alike this book helps readers connect the dots in image and signal processing. New in This EditionThe second edition includes four chapters from the first edition plus 23 new or entirely rewritten chapters and 190 new figures. New

Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction

Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction

Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction contains selected papers presented at the International Workshop on Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction held in Auckland New Zealand from 26-27 November 2009. The workshop was the venue for an international exchange of ideas disseminating information about experiments numerical models and practical engineering problems relating to soil-foundation-structure interaction. A topic of long standing interest to both structural and geotechnical engineers is what is traditionally known as soil-structure interaction (SSI). For a long period this has involved linear elastic interaction between the foundation and the underlying soil and the appropriate analysis is well developed for both static and dynamic interaction. In recent years there has been a growing interest in considering nonlinear soil-foundation interaction in the design of shallow foundations both for static and earthquake loading. To distinguish these approaches from the classical linear elastic soil-structure interaction the term soil-foundation-structure-interaction (SFSI) has been coined recently. The development of various approaches is occurring rapidly in many research groups all over the world with the inclusion of nonlinear structure and nonlinear soil interaction using FEM-based numerical methods as well as the use of shallow foundation macro-elements as an alternative to using finite elements. The workshop brought together representatives from several of these groups to review the current state of development discuss the potential for application in foundation design and consider how work in this area might develop in the next few years. The emphasis in the workshop was on application of these ideas to the foundation design process. The book will be much of interest to post-graduates in Foundation Engineering Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering Earthquake Engineering and Advanced Structural Dynamics.

Organ Preservation for Transplantation

Organ Preservation for Transplantation

The first edition of this book Basic Concepts in Organ Procurement Perfusion and Preservation for Transplantation was published 27 years ago in 1982 when organ procurement and preservation began to advance in the study of the best ways to preserve organs for transplantation. The second edition Organ Procurement and Preservation for Transplantation 2nd Edition followed 15 years later in 1997 with the goal of finding common denominators in the best preservation techniques for transplantation. In this current third edition 11 years after the second edition similar goals are still pursued of defining the best preservation methods but there is now more evidence including results and new advances have reached publication and are being incorporated into ischemia and reperfusion techniques and organ preservation studies. Many preservation solutions have been introduced important preservation solution components have been better defined and improved perfusion methods are being considered especially for the increasing number of organ donors with non-beating hearts who are being sought for transplantation. This edition (2009) engaged experts in the field of organ preservation to review update and rewrite each of the chapters. Crafted in collaboration with Luis H. Toledo-Pereyra the text is eminently informative and easily understandable. Each solid organ that can be transplanted has an entire chapter devoted to the particular methods of its preservation. One chapter apiece in other words features insights on the preservation of the kidney the liver the pancreas the small bowel the heart and the heart-lung. The title of the present book has been shortened to better represent its content. Thus Organ Preservation for Transplantation 3rd Edition demonstrates a more accurate depiction of its current status. Nevertheless the goal of this book remains exactly the same as in the first edition that is “to analyze the most important aspects of organ procurement perfusion and preservation for transplantation”.
