Painkiller: Resurrection is the third installment of the popular series of shooters, initiated by the hit work of the Polish development studio People Can Fly, managed by Adrian Chmielarz. It was prepared by the Austrian group Homegrown Games, commissioned by JoWood, the owner of the rights to the brand. In Painkiller: Resurrection, we play the role of Wild Bill Sherman, an assassin acting on behalf of the CIA and high-ranking government officials. It is the latter who entrust Dziki Bill with a lucrative task that quickly becomes complicated and gets out of control of the protagonist. It might seem that the banal liquidation of Bill's political rival would be the proverbial milk porridge. And so it was - at least until a school bus full of kids pulled up near the service vehicle belonging to Sherman's target. A bomb connected to the ignition switch exploded when the key was turned. As a result, not only children and politician died, but also Dziki Bill, who tried to stop the whole event. The death of the protagonist is the beginning of the game proper.
In Painkiller: Resurrection, the tradition of playing the role of undead heroes, who are faced with the task of dealing with the overwhelming forces of the hellish army, has been maintained. This was the case in the first one, where we helped Daniel Garner complete this mission, and also in Overdose, where we had the opportunity to learn about both the events before the first and those that took place after the story told in the People Can Fly.
In Resurrection, the action was also set in Purgatory, but this time the events taking place in it will take on a completely new meaning. Wild Bill will land in the middle of a conflict between the forces of Heaven and Hell. The player performs missions for both factions, but the finale of the story is typical of Painkiller. Its achievement requires dealing with a huge number of opponents. We do this using many types of weapons, including the iconic Painkiller.
