Hayman's Royal Dock Gin In 1863 opende James Burrough een kleine distilleerderij in Chelsea, Londen. Hij experimenteerde met een aantal ginrecepten en gaf ze namen als Burrough's, Olde Chelsey, Beefeater en Black Cat. Even the design of the bottle is intended to represent the two sides of the British character; Tradition, and modernity. The gin itself is smooth (as you would suggest from the name) and distinctive. It's made with a total of four distillations which use exoic botanicals. The succesive distillations help ensure the smooth qualities of the gin. After this process the gin is infused with red berries (sweet raspberries, and tart, ripe redcurrants) which imbue their sweet fruity flavours.  Whilst MOM definitely exudes a feminine, fashionable and sophisticated feel, this is easily enjoyed by any who like their gins sweet and fruity. This is great for those who like their gin with a quieter note of juniper. The flavour of this gin is sweet and is full of the berry flavours and aromas, with the juniper being far more delicate (although it's still present). Plymouth Gin - Navy Strength For nearly two centuries, there wasn't a (British) Royal Navy ship that left port without a bottle of this gin on-board, and its due to this that this type of gin gets its name (read more bout this on our Navy Strength Gin Blog) Using a relatively short number of botanicals (7), this gin is intense, bold and particularly aromatic. The botanicals used in its creation are Juniper berries, coriander seed, orange and lemon peels, angelica root, green cardamom and orris root. With a high abv of 57%, this is definitely an intense gin. It has a citrus aroma to it, with some heat and a hint of the juniper. The flavour is similar to this, with a real punch of the citrus notes and the juniper coming through towards the end. In particular we loved this in both an Aviation and a Negroni. For a more classic longer drink, this works well with Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic in a Gin Tonic. Wessex English Sloe Gin Wessex was an anglo-saxon kingdom, which located in modern day southern england. Today, one of the current UK counties (Surrey) is located in this ancient kingdom. This is where the Wessex Distillery name comes from. A family owned craft distillery, Wessex use premium ingredients. Where possible they source these from the English countryside, and distill in their copper still. They distill with a simple belief: "We believe the best English gin is made when passionate gin lovers take a no fuss approach, and quality ingredients". To create their Sloe Gin, Wessex use only sloe berries sourced from the English countryside. They steep (soak) these with natural sugar, and their gin for over six months to impart all of their rich fruity tart juices. This combination, and the time Wessex take to make this ensures an extremely smooth sloe gin, with a stunning royal red complexion. The resulting flavour is worth the wait with subtle hints of almond. Good to know: As this is a natural product, which uses real sloes - sediment can be found in the bottle and is perfectly harmless. Pusser's Rum Blue Label Pusser’s Rum is de originele Royal Navy Rum, gedistilleerd in houten ketels in Guyana. Het is de enige rum die volgens de exacte specificaties van de Admiraliteit is gemengd, een specificatie die voor het laatst werd gebruikt op 31 juli 1970, waarmee een einde kwam aan een 300 jaar oude traditie. De blend is rijk en vol en heeft minimaal 3 jaar gerijpt in verkoolde eiken bourbonvaten. Het is ook uitzonderlijk glad vanwege het houten 'pot stilled'-erfgoed. Deze stills bieden een diepe smaak, omdat ze gedurende tientallen jaren van gebruik unieke en organische smaken hebben geabsorbeerd, iets dat een in massa geproduceerde rum moeilijk zou kunnen repliceren. De rijke smaak is volledig natuurlijk, zonder toegevoegde kunstmatige kleur- of smaakstoffen en gemaakt met melasse, gemaakt van suikerriet geteeld in de "Valley of Navy Rum". Dit is de bijnaam voor de Demerara River Valley, een regio die ooit 300 suikerrietplantages had, die allemaal hun eigen distilleerderij hadden, en een gebied dat sinds de 17e eeuw beroemd werd vanwege de productie en distributie van suiker. Pusser's Rum Blue Label is de originele Pusser's Rum. In de neus is er de zoetheid van demerarasuiker, melasse en karamel, met gedroogd fruit en eilandkruiden. In de mond zijn deze smaken goed afgerond, wat leidt tot een lange afdronk met een milde kruidige verbranding. Meer van Pusser's Rum Perfect Serve Pusser's Rum kan puur gedronken worden, met of zonder ijs, maar is ook uitzonderlijk in een cocktail. Probeer het eens in een ouderwetse Rum. Voeg eenvoudig 60 ml Pussers Rum Blue Label toe aan een glas met ijs. Voeg 15 ml suikersiroop en 2-3 scheutjes Angostura Bitters toe en roer tot het volledig gemengd en afgekoeld is. Draai de sinaasappelschil over het drankje zodat de olie vrijkomt en doe het in het glas om te garneren.

Als dit is voltooid, wordt de whisky gerijpt in een combinatie van first fill American Oak Bourbon en Virgin Oak vaten. Dit is een whisky die de perfecte balans heeft tussen zijn rijke, complexe smaak en toch toegankelijk blijft. Hij zit vol met smaken van knapperige groene appels en gemberkoekjes, hinten van tropisch fruit en heerlijke bloemige middentonen. King's Hill Gin Made in the Pentland Hills, to the South-West of Edinburgh Scotland, King's Hill Gin is a small batch Scottish Gin. The name comes from a bet taken between King Robert the Bruce and Sir William 'The Crusader' Sinclair of Roslin. The bet was who could catch the elusive white Pentland Stag, and was won by Sinclair. However, in true knightly manner - he named the hillside in the King's honour. The exquisite bottle, which fades from blue to clear is a nod to the crystal clear water used in the creation of the gin, from the Glencorse area. The diamond effect also shows the royal inspiration.  This gin is a perfect combination of some of the more common gin botanicals, as well as those foraged locally around the distillery. This is definitely a classic gin though, and the piney juniper berries form a strong backbone to this gin. Foraged locally, heather, rosehips, gorse and elderflower are also used. These add a great depth and smoothness to the gin.  The attention to detail in its creation leads to a gin with a fresh, piney juniper hit to the nose. The palate is smooth, with a hint of sweetness. It's full bodied and aromatic, and gives a seriously clean gin which coats the mouth perfectly. The finish is long and dry. Perfect Serve We think this is definitely a gin which is best served long in a gin & tonic. It works well with both Fever-Tree Mediterranean and Elderflower tonics (we like Mediterranean the best). Take a large glass filled with ice, and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pout over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic, and stir gently. Garnish with a large slice of grapefruit.

This area once produced world-class ships. The story starts in 2005 when the Russell family began planning their distillery. It took much planning, but in 2015 they found the future home of Copper Rivet Distillery and the Victorian Pump House No. 5 in Chatham Maritime was purchased. In 2016 they began distilling, but it wasn't until 2017 that they officially opened. On Friday 1st December, HRH The Princess Royal (the British Princess Anne) officially opened Copper Rivet Distillery in Chatham's Historic Docky. From that day they began selling exceptional whisky, gin and vodka. For all of their spirits, including their whiskys only the best early harvest wheat, barley and rye are selected to be used. These are all grown within 20 miles of their home in Chatham, working with known farmers. Their Column Malt Whisky is one of Britain’s first single malt whisky's to be distilled in a column still. For this they took inspiration from the Japanese and American distilleries. They use 100% Belgravia Barley which is grown at 40 acre field. Their mash has a long fermentation before its initial pot distillation. After this, there is a second distillation in the 10 meter tall column still. This unique column still creates a deliciously smooth, easy drinking whisky. The final stage is ageing in first full American Oak Bourbon Barrels. The resulting whisky has an intruiging balance of flavours. It has an aroma full of Vanilla mousse with candied zest, toffee apple and light oak shavings. Whilst on the palate there is a lingering sweet cream with dried plantain, fresh cut pear and a nutty, peppery finish. Er zijn zelfs documenten die aantonen dat ze in de regio van de distilleerderij werden verbouwd. Deze geschiedenis inspireerde de distilleerderij om hun Dockyard Oak Aged Damson gin te creëren. De zorgvuldig geselecteerde botanische ingrediënten die gebruikt zijn, zijn pruimenbessen, jeneverbessen, lokaal geproduceerde vlierbloesem, korianderzaadjes, sinaasappelschil, citroenschil, groene kardemom, paradijskorrels, engelwortel en Orriswortel, evenals hun eigen neutrale graan-eau-de-vie (geproduceerd in hun distilleerderij) en gefilterd krijtwater uit Kentish. Het resultaat is een ginlikeur met een heerlijk zoet smaakprofiel. Rijke en rijpe pruimen en hints van vanille begroeten de neus, terwijl er een warme omhelzing van jamachtige zoetheid in de mond is. Meer van Copper Rivet Distillery Perfect Serve Omdat deze een lager alcoholpercentage heeft, kunt u er gemakkelijk alleen van genieten. Lekker op kamertemperatuur of met een paar ijsklontjes. Maar het doet het ook goed met een neutrale tonic (zoals Franklin & Sons Light Tonic), of met Prosecco of zelfs Champagne!

Foxdenton 48 Gin De Foxdenton Spirits & Liqueurs Company werd in 1935 opgericht door majoor Charles Radclyffe. Het bedrijf werd vernoemd naar zijn voorouderlijk huis Foxdenton Estate, dat hij in 1367 door een huwelijk verwierf. De familie had een geschiedenis van jagen en schieten, en na deze bezigheden was het gebruikelijk om te genieten van fruitlikeuren. De huidige eigenaar, Nicholas Radclyffe, vond deze fruitlikeuren te zoet. Dus begon hij ze zelf te maken - met behulp van traditionele Engelse recepten met gin als basis. Tot zijn verbazing vonden anderen dit ook lekker. Dus begon hij in samenwerking met Thames Distillers met het creëren van de perfecte gin (dit is hun Foxdenton 48) voor verkoop op zichzelf en om te gebruiken bij het maken van likeuren. Voor de productie werden een aantal recepten getest, voordat ze uiteindelijk voor deze gin kozen. De zeven gebruikte botanicals zijn jeneverbessen, korianderzaad, citroenschil, lindebloesem, engelwortel, bonenkruid en orriswortel. Het werd gelanceerd in 2009 en is sindsdien verkrijgbaar - en won talloze prijzen en lofbetuigingen. Het belangrijkste botanische ingrediënt is lindebloesemolie - dit tilt deze gin met kop en schouders boven de concurrentie uit en geeft een unieke citrusachtige frisheid. De neus is fris en schoon, met dennenachtige jeneverbesaroma's, aangevuld met zachte kruiden van engelwortel en korianderzaad. In de mond is hij al even fris, met een sterke citrussmaak. Er is absoluut een traditioneel gingevoel, droog en schoon, met een vleugje parmaviooltjes van de orriswortel. De afdronk is opnieuw traditioneel, met een droog gevoel in de mond en een duidelijke jeneverbesnoot. Meer van Foxdenton Perfect Serve We vonden dit een klassieke gin & tonic van hoge kwaliteit. Neem een hoog glas gevuld met ijs en voeg 50 ml van de gin toe. Knijp het sap van een kwart citroen erdoor en vul het glas met een tonic van goede kwaliteit (wij vinden dit lekker in combinatie met Royal Bliss Signature Tonic, omdat de tonen van kardemom en yuzu perfect samengaan met de botanische ingrediënten in de gin). Roer voorzichtig en geniet!

Copper in the Clouds Mango & Black Pepper Gin Created in 'The Distillery at Dowsett's Farm', Copper in the Clouds gin is a small company creating premium gin's in Hertfordshire. Historically, Hertfordshire (a county just to the north of London) was the hunting ground of the British Royal family, and is still relatively rural with numerous forests. They create their gins using locally sourced premium wheat spirit. Where possible, they use locally grown and sourced botanicals, and have even started growing some of their own botanicals on the farm in their recently created botanical garden. This attention to detail ensures a quality, and unique range of gins which they can rightfully be proud of! Each of their bottles is a piece of art itself. With this gin, they capture a tiger and parrot enjoying a meal of mango and cracked black pepper. It was a 2014 study which inspired this gin. A group of food scientists was commisioned to find the best garnish for a G&T. As you might guess, the rather surprising result was a slice of mango and cracked black pepper. Copper in the Clouds felt this sounded particular good, but why stop at just a garnish! They have therefore infused fresh ripe mango, and the best peppercorns into their gin. The gin itself is deliciously fruity, with clear fresh mango flavour. The black pepper is subtle, and doesnt overpower the gin at all, rather tantalises the taste buds! More from Copper in the Clouds Perfect Serve As this is already a sweeter gin, we recommend enjoying with a lighter tonic. Fentimans Naturally Light Tonic works really well, otherwise we'd recommend Fentimans Connoiseurs Tonic. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. G'Vine Floraison Gin G'Vine onderscheidt zich van de massa en gebruikt een basis van alcohol die wordt gedistilleerd uit Ugni Blanc-druiven. Met behulp van deze druif "brandy" creëren ze dan iets heel speciaals, een uitgesproken moderne versie van gin. Wat zouden de Fransen tenslotte anders gebruiken dan een druivenbasis! Maar de invloed van de wijnstok houdt daar niet op. Ze gebruiken de bloemen ook heel uniek. Deze worden geoogst voordat de wijnstok vruchten kan afwerpen. Deze worden geweekt (gemengd) en apart gedistilleerd, samen met de andere 9 botanicals in de gin. Nadat dit proces is voltooid, worden ze in precies de juiste hoeveelheden gemengd voordat ze opnieuw samen worden gedestilleerd. De 10 botanica die worden gebruikt bij het maken van de gins zijn jeneverbes, druivenbloemen, kardemom, cassia, koriander, blokpeper, gember, zoethout, limoen en nootmuskaat. Het algehele resultaat is erg verfrissend en behoorlijk verrassend. Op de neus opent het met een welkom van de limoen en een bloemige ondertoon. De jeneverbes komt ook zachtjes door, om eraan te herinneren dat dit inderdaad een gin is! In de mond neemt deze gin je mee op een complexe en plezierige reis. Het begint met een bloemige introductie, voordat de jeneverbes (mild) doorkomt, samen met een zachte warmte van gember en limoen. Dit gaat verder met een vleugje peper, en anijs maakt zich bekend - terwijl de dennenjeneverbes doorgaat. Naarmate de gin eindigt, komt er een delicate zoetheid op de tong. Anijs gaat door, tot het einde, maar je wordt ook begroet door de kardemom, een vleugje vanille en dan komen de zoethoutwortels door. Zeker iets anders - maar we denken dat de liefhebbers van citrus en bloemenjenever daar zeker van zullen genieten!
