Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Thermal Spray Industry Practices Implementation and Challenges

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Thermal Spray Industry Practices Implementation and Challenges

This book details the emerging area of the induction of expert systems in thermal spray technology replacing traditional parametric optimization methods like numerical modeling and simulation. It promotes enlightens and hastens the digital transformation of the surface engineering industry by discussing the contribution of expert systems like Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) toward achieving durable Thermal Spray (TS) coatings. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Thermal Spray Industry: Practices Implementation and Challenges highlights how AI and ML techniques are used in the TS industry. It sheds light on AI’s versatility revealing its applicability in solving problems related to conventional simulation and numeric modeling techniques. This book combines automated technologies with expert machines to show several advantages including decreased error and greater accuracy in judgment and prediction enhanced efficiency reduced time consumption and lower costs. Specific barriers preventing AI’s successful implementation in the TS industry are also discussed. This book also looks at how training and validating more models with microstructural features of deposited coating will be the center point to grooming this technology in the future. Lastly this book thoroughly analyzes the digital technologies available for modeling and achieving high-performance coatings including giving AI-related models like Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) more attention. This reference book is directed toward professors students practitioners and researchers of higher education institutions working in the fields that deal with the application of AI and ML technology. | Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Thermal Spray Industry Practices Implementation and Challenges

Metamaterials Technology and Applications

Metamaterials Technology and Applications

Metamaterials have been in research limelight for the last few years owing to the exotic electromagnetic features these exhibit. With certain combinational forms of the design these can be of prudent applications in developing antennas filters absorbers sensors energy harvesters and many others. As such the role of engineered mediums remains greatly important as the frequency region of operation determines the structure (of the medium(s)) to be developed – the fact that is exploited in the on-demand kind of tailoring the electromagnetic response of metamaterials. The relevant R&D investigators show keen interest in the fabrication of varieties of novel miniaturized devices that can be of great potentials in many micro- as well as nanotechnology-oriented applications. With this view point in mind the Book provides the glimpse of phenomenal growth of research in this direction through covering the topics pivoted to fundamental descriptions and theoretical and experimental results reported by pioneering scientists. It is expected that the book will be of benefit to novice researchers (such as graduate students) and expert scientists in universities and research laboratories. Some of the contents in the book are centered on industrial applications of metamaterials thereby making the volume useful to the R&D scientists in certain industries. In summary the book: Provides a glimpse of the recent developments in metamaterial research Introduces new metamaterial designs to be used in the microwave and optical regimes Discusses the usefulness of new designs in developing absorbers and/or sensors Explores the platforms for future technology of embedded systems | Metamaterials Technology and Applications

Field Theory of Nonimaging Optics

Field Theory of Nonimaging Optics

This book aims to overcome the traditional ray paradigm and provide an analytical paradigm for Nonimaging Optics based on Field Theory. As a second objective the authors address the connections between this Field Theory of Nonimaging Optics and other radiative transfer theories. The book introduces the Field Theory of Nonimaging Optics as a new analytical paradigm not statistical to analyze problems in the frame of nonimaging geometrical optics with a formulation based on field theory of irradiance vector D. This new paradigm provides new principles and tools in the optical system design methods complementary to flowline method overcoming the classical ray paradigm. This new Field paradigm can be considered as a generalization of the ray paradigm and new accurate and faster computation algorithms will be developed. In a parallel way the advance in the knowledge of the principles of Field Theory of Nonimaging Optics has produced clear advances in the connection between nonimaging optics and other apparently disconnected theories of radiation transfer. The irradiance vector D can be considered as the macroscopic average of Poynting vector with a clear connection with radiation pressure. Lorentz geometry techniques can also be applied to study irradiance vector D. There are clear thermodynamic connections between the nonimaging concentrator and Stefan-Boltzmann law of radiation. From this thermodynamic connection nonimaging optics and irradiance vector D can also be studied from a phase space point of view. This book is intended for researchers graduate students academics and professionals looking to analyze design and optimize optical systems.
