Miscanthus 'Ferner Osten' (Pot Size: 3 Litre Pot)

Miscanthus 'Ferner Osten' (Pot Size: 3 Litre Pot)

Miscanthus ‘Ferner Osten’ is a cherished addition on our nursery, renowned for its unique foliage and reliable garden performance. This ornamental grass, awarded the prestigious RHS Garden Merit, is beloved by our head grower for its striking appearance and versatility in the garden. ‘Ferner Osten’ stands out with its beautifully arching leaves that transition from green to a deep burgundy-red as the season progresses. The foliage provides a dynamic visual interest that enhances garden designs with its rich, warm tones. In late Summer to early Autumn, it produces elegant, feathery plumes of reddish-purple flowers that gradually fade to silver, adding texture and movement to the garden. Our head grower selected Miscanthus ‘Ferner Osten’ for its exceptional performance and minimal care requirements. It thrives in a variety of soil types, provided they are well-drained, and it can tolerate both full sun and partial shade. Its drought tolerance makes it an excellent choice for sustainable and low-maintenance gardens. This grass looks spectacular when planted in mixed borders, where its height and texture provide a beautiful backdrop for perennials and shrubs. It is also ideal for creating naturalistic landscapes, prairie-style gardens, and as a striking focal point in contemporary designs. ‘Ferner Osten’ not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of gardens but also contributes to biodiversity by providing habitat and food for wildlife. Its unique foliage colour and reliable performance make it a wonderful choice.

Leucanthemum 'Broadway Lights' (Pot Size: 3 Litre Pot)

Leucanthemum 'Broadway Lights' (Pot Size: 3 Litre Pot)

Our favourite Shasta Daisy is Leucanthemum ‘Broadway Lights’ and has been selected by our horticultural team for its exceptional pollinating qualities and vivid colour interest throughout the growing season. Leathery rich green foliage grounds the large yellow centred blooms that open a vivid lemon yellow colour, fade to cream and mature to a whimsical white by the end of the Summer. These informal blooms are perfect for the front of your beds and borders, allowing you to easily reach and pick some enchanting cut flowers to enjoy indoors.  The relaxed meadow prairie feel of Shasta Daisy’s are perfect for cottage gardens and wildlife gardens.  In stark contrast we also enjoy seeing the daisy in an urban and contemporary space too. With an average height of 45-60 cm, these charming daisies become a standout feature in borders but also enjoyed in rock gardens, or Summer container arrangements. Their graceful appearance and compact habit make them a versatile choice for various garden styles, including traditional to contemporary. We recommend planting a patch of Leucanthemums together en masse; for an impactful space of swirling cheerful blooms that can be cut for prairie arrangements and also left for wild bees and other declining pollinators to enjoy. ‘Broadway Lights’ provide forage for a wide variety of pollinating insects and holds the prestigious RHS Plants for Pollinators Award. Overall, we prioritise plants that are fully hardy and will stand the test of time in your garden, ‘Broadway Lights’ is horticultural gem for durability and a powerful pollinator bringing a wealth of wildlife to your outdoor space. Easy to grow and offering good disease and pest resistance, we favour cheerful Shasta Daisy for every garden border.

Hellebore Red - Gift Wrapped (Pot Size: 2 Litre Pot)

Hellebore Red - Gift Wrapped (Pot Size: 2 Litre Pot)

Hellebores such as Bennotta, Early Red, Ice N Roses Red, Leona and Leila will happily grow and thrive well without requiring a great deal of maintenance if planted in the right spot. Even in planters, the charming winter flowerers don’t require a great deal of work. When hellebores lay down leaves and flowers on the ground on frosty nights, they may appear frozen. It’s a normal reaction of the plants to protect against the cold. When temperatures rise above freezing, the plant will straighten back up again. To avoid the occurrence of frost drought, water the Helleborus plants sufficiently during periods of mild weather. We will select from choice of our most gorgeous red Hellebores, such as Bennotta, Early Red, Ice N Roses Red, Leona and Leila, all from German breeder, Heuger, for whom we are the official UK partner.  The perfect wintry gift! In the summer, you want to move the planter to a shady place and water it occasionally to prevent the plant from drying out. Flowers Removing dead flowers from hellebores during the flowering season is normally not necessary; the slightly pink or green tones the flowers take on as they fade actually extend the flowering season in winter. Remove the seed pods before they open, as offspring plants normally don’t flower well and might suppress the original plants. Leaves The old and brown leaves of Christmas Roses and Snow Roses are best be removed in the spring and summer. Feeding Helleborus plants do not require any fertiliser in their first spring. Feed older plants from February onwards and apply a second dressing of fertiliser in midsummer, when the plants grow new roots and initiate flower buds for the next season. Organic fertilizers such as horn shavings and compost have proven to be the fertilizers of choice. If the plants suffer lime deficiency, soils can be improved by working in Dolomite lime or crushed eggshells. The leaves that have fallen off nearby deciduous trees provide a layer of mulch in winter; simply leave them lying on the ground. They form a layer that activates soil life. Helleborus is very sensitive to root injuries. For this reason, the ground around it should not be dug.
