Tropico 5 is the next installment of a series of economic strategies in which the player acts as the leader of the banana republic. Like the two previous parts, the "five" was created by Haemimont Games studio.
According to the tradition of the series, Tropico 5 allows the player to take on the role of the leader of a small country located on the island. His task is to lead his subordinate nation from colonial times, through the turbulent 20th century, to the present day and the near future. In the meantime, you have to survive both world wars, the great economic crisis and the cold war. Each era presents its own challenges and unique opportunities.
The core of the game remains unchanged compared to its predecessors - as El Presidente, the player tries to maintain the position of the nation's leader. His duties include, among others developing the city, taking care of industry and economy, counteracting the effects of natural disasters, responding to the needs of the people and the demands of political factions (not necessarily in a democratic manner), fighting the opposition and maintaining diplomatic relations with neighbors. In addition, there is an extensive trading system (including sea trade), trees for technological and scientific development, and exploration. Early in the game, it's a good idea to send explorers deep into the island in search of new minerals and deposits. However, they must be wary of wild animals and hostile natives.
A novelty in the game is the ability to create your own dynasty. Members of the ruling family can become not only leaders but also managers of many enterprises and factories on the island. Over time, they gain experience and cope with their duties better and better. Of course, having your people in key positions is extremely helpful in staying in power.
The appearance of the cities in Tropico 5 changes as you progress along the timeline. The creators have tried to authentically reflect the changing realities, and each era has different-looking buildings.
