The New Digital Education Policy Landscape From Education Systems to Platforms

The New Digital Education Policy Landscape From Education Systems to Platforms

This book provides a scholarly investigation of the new era we have entered in which platforms can replace or profoundly modify educational systems and questions the role of educational policy in this new stage of platform-based digital technology. The contributors explore important questions around who controls these transformations what form they are taking what the balance between national education policies and Big Tech education solutions should be as well as whether there should be a public platform in every education system that digitally expands learning and what evidence there is that learning will be more efficient using these platforms. The first part provides a selection of empirical studies on the new digital educational policy and an analysis of the real opportunities and concerns that governments face in this regard while the second offers reflections on the processes of platformization and the role of the state in this new digital world. Uniquely examining the temporal evolution of these changes and taking a theoretical political and epistemological approach it crucially opens pathways for dialogical and diverse critical thinking about profound problems and possibilities. Gathering purposeful thinking that creates space for design solutions and rethinking educational systems considering these new technological artefacts it will appeal to researchers and specialists in the fields of educational technology and educational policy. | The New Digital Education Policy Landscape From Education Systems to Platforms

Urban Change and Regional Development at the Margins of Europe Evaluating the Effects of the EU Policy

Urban Change and Regional Development at the Margins of Europe Evaluating the Effects of the EU Policy

Since the beginning of the 1990s regions and urban areas have become a primary target of EU Cohesion Policy. For a number of European cities especially in the less developed regions this has resulted in a unique opportunity for the implementation of extensive development projects as well as delivering innovations in urban policy and local governance. Through the detailed observation of planning processes which took place in four European cities – Porto (PT) Malaga (ES) Palermo (IT) and Thessaloniki (EL) – this book explores the different ways that EU intervention can affect the policy process locally from the regeneration of decayed neighbourhoods and the creation of key services for improving the quality of life to the establishment of new governance relations and increasing the institutional capacity in local government. The book also provides a critical reflection on the impact of EU urban policy in reducing regional disparities and the extent to which Cohesion Policy has helped cities to open new pathways for local development. With a special focus on the EU’s marginal regions this book is a guide to understanding how EU policy has affected urban change and local development across Europe. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal Urban Research & Practice. | Urban Change and Regional Development at the Margins of Europe Evaluating the Effects of the EU Policy

Track Two Diplomacy Between India and Pakistan Peace Negotiations and Initiatives

Track Two Diplomacy Between India and Pakistan Peace Negotiations and Initiatives

Track Two Diplomacy between India and Pakistan studies the nature and context of providing an alternative platform for conflict resolution between the two countries. Considered one of the most intractable conflicts in the world the India-Pakistan conflict has been defined by casualties religious extremism and the looming threat of war. With the conflict playing out against the backdrop of many nationalisms official Track One diplomacy remains insufficient. The author analyses the role of Track Two diplomacy when official diplomacy remains confined and sensitive to their respective official positions as well as the contribution of maintaining various communication lines intact when official channels are suspended and inaccessible. In this context this book explores citizen-led diplomatic efforts probing the economic and ideological forms of power that influence this mode of diplomacy outside governmental channels. The book is a general evaluation of the Track Two process in terms of its achievements challenges and failures vis-à-vis India and Pakistan. An original contribution towards the development of a conceptual understanding of Track Two diplomacy this book will be of interest to researchers studying International Relations Foreign Politics South Asian Politics with particular emphasis on India - Pakistan relations. | Track Two Diplomacy Between India and Pakistan Peace Negotiations and Initiatives

Recording Studio Design

Recording Studio Design

Recording Studio Design Fourth Edition explains the key principles of successful studio design and construction using straightforward language and the use of practical examples appreciated by readers of previous editions. Updated to reflect new industry standards this fourth edition addresses improvements in cinema sound with specific attention paid to B-chain electroacoustic response and calibration. Using over 50 years’ experience author Philip Newell provides detail on the practical aspects of recording in various environments not only exploring the complex issues relating to the acoustics but also providing real-world solutions. While the book contains detailed discussions about performing rooms control rooms and mobile studios concepts of the infrastructures are also discussed because no studio can perform optimally unless the technical and human requirements are adequately provided for. In this new edition sound for cinema provides a platform for highlighting many wider electroacoustic topics in a way that is relatively easy to visualise. The way in which sound and vision interact is an important aspect of many modern multimedia formats. The new edition includes: A new Chapter 22 that will thoroughly reflect recently published SMPTE investigations which will drastically impact standards for cinema sound; The inclusion of new academic research and its practical applications; An entire new illustrated chapter on room construction principles; and The consolidation of ideas which were only emerging when the earlier editions were published.
