Nekopara Vol. 1 is a classic visual novel adventure game in which we play the role of the owner of a small confectionery, who is just opening his own business. The independent Japanese studio NEKO WORKs is responsible for the production of the title. Nekopara Vol. 1 debuted on PC in 2014 and was one of the first Japanese visual novels sold via Steam. Since then, the Nekopara series has proved to be quite a success for the small developer, and its popularity continues to grow. In 2017, the half-hour animated adaptation of the game premiered, which was financed through the Kickstarter website.StoryThe action of the game takes place in modern Japan. The country, along with people, however, are inhabited by cats, resembling ordinary people at first glance. They are gifted with intelligence and the ability to communicate through speech. We play the role of Kashou Minaduki, a beginner baker whose family has been producing classic Japanese delicacies for generations. The protagonist, however, prefers to work on Western cakes and pastries. He realizes this passion by opening his own confectionery called La Soleil. While preparing for his first day of work, Kashou discovers that two kittens, Chocola and Vanilla, belonging to his younger sister, also came from his family home with his luggage. They both plead with him to let them stay with him in exchange for help in running the business. They soon become waitresses, often getting into trouble and causing a lot of trouble to the new owner. Virtually the entire game has been kept in a light and humorous tone, largely based on the hero's interactions with two kitties and his sister, who chooses to help him in his own way in the promotion of the confectionery.GameplayNekopara Vol. 1 is a classic visual novel adventure game. The gameplay is limited to reading subsequent lines of text enriched with illustrations and animated portraits of characters .
