Ash of Gods: Redemption is a tactical RPG game with card elements, released on the PC, PS4 platform, etc. It is the first project of the independent Russian studio Aurum Dust, which in 2017 successfully organized a fundraiser for the game's production. Among the band's inspirations were, among others The Banner Saga series and Japanese RPGs, e.g. the Fire Emblem series.
Story
The story of Ash of Gods: Redemption is set in a world created by the fantasy writer Sergei Malicki for the book Ash of Gods, created in parallel with the game. The action takes place in the world of Terminium, inspired by medieval Europe, whose inhabitants have enjoyed relative peace for 700 years. Now, however, mankind has to face the appearance of representatives of an alien race, called the Reapers, who plan to destroy their civilization. This can only be prevented by a handful of daredevils who, under various circumstances, join the expedition to stop the threat.
Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, Ash of Gods: Redemption is similar to the previously mentioned The Banner Saga. The team of heroes travels the world through the map, talks to the characters they meet and completes their tasks. The latter provide experience points for characters (allowing them to develop their abilities) and move the story of the game forward. The distinguishing feature of Aurum Dust's work is its approach to moral choices.
The creators wanted to make the fantastic world come true, which was achieved, among others, by introducing numerous situations in which the player has to make a difficult decision. Each of them can affect not only the plot, but also the fate of individual characters. Even the main characters are not inviolable, and their death does not mean the end of the game - the story will go on regardless of whether they survive to the end of the adventure or die along the way. At the same time, the game encourages you to take risks both in combat and while traveling. Taking a shortcut might put your heroes at risk, but it would save valuable resources that would otherwise be consumed by taking a longer journey along a safer route.
