Astrophytum capricorne aureum - Star cactus From Mexico, 9 cm pot
The Astrophytum capricorne aureum has a green body with usually 8 ribbed columnar stems. The spination for this plant is very unusual as it has long white wispy spines. This cactus is slow growing, its maximum height is around 40cm tall. This Astrophytum has large yellow trumpet like flowers with a red middle, which appear from the centre growing point of the cactus in the summer months. These flowers can appear when the cactus is of a young age (2-3 years). This cactus is native to northeast Mexico and grows primarily in the desert. No more difficult to grow than other cacti requiring your brightest location for the summer months and free draining gritty compost, with attention to watering.
