Responsible Management and Sustainable Consumption Creating a Consumer and Enterprise Social Responsibility Index

Responsible Management and Sustainable Consumption Creating a Consumer and Enterprise Social Responsibility Index

While the number of publications on corporate social responsibility has skyrocketed since the last economic crisis that began in 2008 challenges still remain in the modern economy that make socially responsible business a leading topic both in the field of science and business practice. The concept of corporate social responsibility covers not only practices implemented by enterprises but also attitudes represented by consumers and other market entities. Though much has been written about corporate social responsibility and the potential benefits it offers businesses there remains a misunderstanding of corporate social responsibility (CSR) responsible management (RM) and responsible consumption (RC). Examining the level of responsible management practices implemented by Polish enterprises and assessing consumer attitudes in the field of corporate social responsibility will serve to identify best business practices and enhance management theory. Because this research examines both sides of the market companies and consumers it offers a more holistic view on social responsibility responsible management and responsible consumer behaviour. The contribution of this book is the development of the assessment tool for measuring social responsibility of every enterprise – Enterprise Social Responsibility Index (EnSRI) and Consumer Social Responsibility Index (CnSRI). This book is written to meet the needs of academics students company owners and managers. It also provides an integrated view of responsibility from the point of view of both enterprises and consumers. | Responsible Management and Sustainable Consumption Creating a Consumer and Enterprise Social Responsibility Index

Out of Time? Temporality In Disability Performance

Out of Time? Temporality In Disability Performance

Out of Time? has many different meanings amongst them outmoded out of step under time pressure no time left or simply delayed. In the disability context it may also refer to resistant attitudes of living in “crip time” that contradict time as a linear process with a more or less predictable future. According to Alison Kafer “crip time bends the clock to meet disabled bodies and minds. ” What does this mean in the disability arts? What new concepts of accessibility crip futures and crip resistance can be staged or created by disability performance? And how does the notion of “out of time” connect crip time with pandemic time in disability performance? The collective volume seeks to respond to these questions by exploring crip time in disability performance as both a concept and a phenomenon. The book tackles the topic from two angles: on the one hand from a theoretical point of view that connects performance analysis with crip and performance theory on the other hand from a practice-based perspective of disability artists who develop new concepts and dramaturgies of crip time based on their own lived experiences and observations in the field of the performing and disability arts. The book gathers different types of text genres forms and styles that mirror the diversity of their authors. Besides theoretical and academic chapters on disability performance the book also includes essays poems dramatic texts and choreographic concepts that ref lect upon the alternative knowledge in the disability arts. | Out of Time? Nanomaterials in Architecture and Art Conservation

Nanomaterials in Architecture and Art Conservation

The conservation and protection of buildings that constitute our cultural heritage are complex tasks calling for a comprehensive knowledge of the historical background of the buildings as well as the construction technologies and materials used. Nanomaterials in Architecture and Art Conservation gives a comprehensive overview of the state of the art of using nanomaterials in conservation sciences mainly for stone mortar and plaster strengthening but also for the consolidation of wall paintings. The book compiles and details deterioration mechanisms of stone and historical mortars as well as methods of characterising and testing consolidation effects. The non- or semi-destructive characterisation methods that will be presented allow additional measurements to characterise objects before and after any interventions. Besides general aspects of inorganic consolidants are targeted. The focus in particular is the application of nanolime as a new consolidation agent. Basic characteristics and application advices as well as beneficial combinations with other consolidation agents such as silicic acid esters are emphasised. What makes this book so special is the large number of practical applications described from the viewpoint of different restorers offering a direct inside view of the procedure for the conservation of historical monuments. Restorers dealing with stone mortar and plaster conservation; artists; advanced undergraduate- and graduate-level students of conservation science art and nanotechnology; offices for the protection of monuments and heritage agencies; and researchers in materials science conservation nanotechnology and chemistry especially those with an interest in applied sciences will find this book a great reference.

The Pension Fund Revolution

The Pension Fund Revolution

In The Pension Fund Revolution originally published nearly two decades ago under the title The Unseen Revolution Drucker reports that institutional investors especially pension funds have become the controlling owners of America's large companies the country's only capitalists. He maintains that the shift began in 1952 with the establishment of the first modern pension fund by General Motors. By 1960 it had become so obvious that a group of young men decided to found a stock-exchange firm catering exclusively to these new investors. Ten years later this firm (Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette) became the most successful and one of the biggest Wall Street firms. Drucker's argument that through pension funds ownership of the means of production had become socialized without becoming nationalized was unacceptable to the conventional wisdom of the country in the 1970s. Even less acceptable was the second theme of the book: the aging of America. Among the predictions made by Drucker in The Pension Fund Revolution are: that a major health care issue would be longevity; that pensions and social security would be central to American economy and society; that the retirement age would have to be extended; and that altogether American politics would increasingly be dominated by middle-class issues and the values of elderly people. While readers of the original edition found these conclusions hard to accept Drucker's work has proven to be prescient. In the new epilogue Drucker discusses how the increasing dominance of pension funds represents one of the most startling power shifts in economic history and he examines their present-day Impact. The Pension Fund Revolution is now considered a classic text regarding the effects of pension fund ownership on the governance of the American corporation and on the structure of the American economy altogether. The reissuing of this book is more timely now than ever. It provides a wealth of information for sociologists economists and political theorists.
