Lacan on Psychosis From Theory to Praxis

Lacan on Psychosis From Theory to Praxis

This is the first book of its kind that attempts to distill Lacan’s views on psychosis for both a specialized and non-specialized audience. An attempt is made to present Lacan’s unorganized theories to apply to conceptual paradigms in psychoanalysis and the humanities as well as applied clinical practice. This effort is in the spirit of fostering dialogue and educating different theoretical orientations within psychoanalysis on what Lacan and his followers have contributed to emerging contemporary perspectives on psychotic phenomena in both normative and pathological populations. Within Lacanian circles there is debate over what constitutes psychosis including defining the ordinary from pathological variants that have historically defined the phenomena as a mental illness. Here psychosis is not defined by hegemonic authoritarian psychiatry but rather as a conceptual framework or philosophical perspective supported by descriptive narrative and symptomatic phenomenology that challenges preconceived notions of what we typically consider psychosis to entail. In this book a variety of perspectives are presented by internationally respected scholars and clinicians who examine what Lacan had to say about psychosis from his nuanced theories represented in select texts including omissions extrapolations and new applications as well as how clinical methodology and technique have been adapted and advanced by practitioners treating psychotic individuals. Lacan on Psychosis will be of interest to academics scholars researchers and practitioners in the fields of psychoanalysis psychotherapy philosophy cultural theory the humanities and the behavioral sciences. | Lacan on Psychosis From Theory to Praxis

Preaching the Crusades to the Eastern Mediterranean Propaganda Liturgy and Diplomacy 1305–1352

Preaching the Crusades to the Eastern Mediterranean Propaganda Liturgy and Diplomacy 1305–1352

Preaching was an integral part of the crusade movement. This book focuses on the efforts of the first four Avignon popes to organize crusade preaching campaigns to the Eastern Mediterranean and on the role of the secular and regular clergy in their implementation. Historians have treated the fall of Acre in 1291 as an arbitrary boundary in crusader studies for far too long. The period 1305–1352 was particularly significant for crusade preaching yet it has not been studied in detail. This volume thus constitutes an important addition to the flourishing field of late medieval crusade historiography. The core of the book deals with two interlocking themes: the liturgy for the Holy Land and the popular response to crusade preaching between the papacies of Clement V and Clement VI. The book analyses the evolving use of the liturgy for the crusade in combination with preaching and it illustrates the catalytic role of these measures in driving popular pro-crusade sentiments. A key theme in the account is the analysis of the surviving crusade sermons of the Parisian theologians from the era. Critical editions of these previously neglected propagandistic texts are a valuable addition to our corpus of papal correspondence relating to the crusades in the later Middle Ages. This book will be of interest both to specialized historians and to students of late medieval crusading. | Preaching the Crusades to the Eastern Mediterranean Propaganda Liturgy and Diplomacy 1305–1352

Cyber Security Management A Governance Risk and Compliance Framework

Cyber Security Management A Governance Risk and Compliance Framework

Cyber Security Management: A Governance Risk and Compliance Framework by Peter Trim and Yang-Im Lee has been written for a wide audience. Derived from research it places security management in a holistic context and outlines how the strategic marketing approach can be used to underpin cyber security in partnership arrangements. The book is unique because it integrates material that is of a highly specialized nature but which can be interpreted by those with a non-specialist background in the area. Indeed those with a limited knowledge of cyber security will be able to develop a comprehensive understanding of the subject and will be guided into devising and implementing relevant policy systems and procedures that make the organization better able to withstand the increasingly sophisticated forms of cyber attack. The book includes a sequence-of-events model; an organizational governance framework; a business continuity management planning framework; a multi-cultural communication model; a cyber security management model and strategic management framework; an integrated governance mechanism; an integrated resilience management model; an integrated management model and system; a communication risk management strategy; and recommendations for counteracting a range of cyber threats. Cyber Security Management: A Governance Risk and Compliance Framework simplifies complex material and provides a multi-disciplinary perspective and an explanation and interpretation of how managers can manage cyber threats in a pro-active manner and work towards counteracting cyber threats both now and in the future. | Cyber Security Management A Governance Risk and Compliance Framework

A Tenth-Century Byzantine Military Manual: The Sylloge Tacticorum

A Tenth-Century Byzantine Military Manual: The Sylloge Tacticorum

The Sylloge Tacticorum is a mid-Byzantine example of the literary genre of military manuals or Taktika which stretches back to antiquity. It was one of a number produced during the tenth century CE a period when the Byzantine empire enjoyed a large measure of success in its wars against its traditional enemy the Arabs. Compiled to record and preserve military strategies know-how and tactics the manual discusses a wide variety of matters: battle formations raids sieges ambushes surprise attacks the treatment of prisoners of war and defectors distribution of booty punishment of military offences how to mount effective espionage and how to send and receive envoys. There is even advice on the personal qualities required by generals on how to neutralize enemy horses and on how to protect the troops against poisoned food. The work culminates in an account of the stratagems employed by great Greek and Roman military commanders of the past. While like so much of Byzantine literature the Sylloge often simply reproduces material found in earlier texts it also preserves a great deal of information about the military tactics being developed by the Byzantine army during the tenth century. It is the first Byzantine source to record the reappearance of a specialized heavy cavalry (the kataphraktoi) and of a specialized infantry (the menavlatoi) used to repel the attacks of the opposing heavy cavalry. There is also a great deal of information on new infantry and cavalry formations and on the new tactics that required them. This is the first complete translation of the Sylloge into English. It is accompanied by a glossary of the specialised Greek military vocabulary used in the work and by footnotes which explain obscure references and identify the author’s classical and Byzantine sources. An introduction places the work in its historical and literary context and considers some of the questions that | A Tenth-Century Byzantine Military Manual: The Sylloge Tacticorum
