Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program Grades 6-7

The Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program targets reading comprehension skills in high-ability learners by moving students through an inquiry process from basic understanding to critical analyses of texts using a field-tested method developed by the Center for Gifted Education at William & Mary. Students in grades 6-7 will learn to comprehend and analyze any reading passage after completing the activities in Jacob's Ladder Grades 6-7 (2nd ed. previously published as Level 4). Using skill ladders connected to short stories poetry essays and nonfiction students move from lower order concrete thinking skills to higher order critical thinking skills. The ladders include multiple skills necessary for academic success covering language arts standards such as sequencing determining cause and effect classifying making inferences and recognizing main ideas themes and concepts. The second edition of the book builds off the previous Level 4 edition including new readings and ladders for student use. This book provides teachers with an explanation of the nature of supplementary tasks that scaffold reading comprehension. Also included is an overview of the goals and objectives of the Jacob's Ladder tasks and suggestions for implementation giving every teacher the tools needed to promote successful reading comprehension. Optional Student Workbook PacksIn addition to this teacher's guide companion student workbooks are available for Poetry Short Stories and Biographies. The student workbooks feature ample room for student responses and notes make reviewing and providing feedback on student work easier than ever provide students with an easy-to-use reference to use during discussions and save time as there is no need to reproduce student handouts. This book brings together the most influential and widely known writings of Vicki L. Ruiz a leading voice in the fields of Chicana/o Latina/o women’s and labor history. For nearly forty years Ruiz has produced scholarship that has provided the foundation for a rich and nuanced understanding of the ways in which Chicanas and Latinas negotiate the structures impinging on their everyday lives. From challenging familial patriarchal cultural norms building interethnic social networks in the neighborhood and workplace and organizing labor unions to fighting gender and racial discrimination in the courts at work in the schools and on the streets Ruiz’s studies have examined the countless struggles roadblocks and victories Chicanas and Latinas have faced in the twentieth century and beyond. The articles in this book are organized chronologically to reflect the evolution of Ruiz’s intellectual contributions as well as her commitment to integrating feminist history theory and methodology and show how she has generously offered insights reflections and humor in helping us define and shape who we are as mujeres Chicanas Latinas scholars teachers and mentors. With its narrative flow and engaging prose Ruiz’s scholarship connects with academic and public audiences and this collection fulfills a much-needed demand in the teaching of women’s Chicana/o Latina/o and labor history. | Latina Lives Latina Narratives Influential Essays by Vicki L. Computational Aspects of Polynomial Identities Volume l Kemer's Theorems 2nd Edition

Computational Aspects of Polynomial Identities Volume l Kemer's Theorems 2nd Edition

Computational Aspects of Polynomial Identities: Volume l Kemer’s Theorems 2nd Edition presents the underlying ideas in recent polynomial identity (PI)-theory and demonstrates the validity of the proofs of PI-theorems. This edition gives all the details involved in Kemer’s proof of Specht’s conjecture for affine PI-algebras in characteristic 0. The book first discusses the theory needed for Kemer’s proof including the featured role of Grassmann algebra and the translation to superalgebras. The authors develop Kemer polynomials for arbitrary varieties as tools for proving diverse theorems. They also lay the groundwork for analogous theorems that have recently been proved for Lie algebras and alternative algebras. They then describe counterexamples to Specht’s conjecture in characteristic p as well as the underlying theory. The book also covers Noetherian PI-algebras Poincaré–Hilbert series Gelfand–Kirillov dimension the combinatoric theory of affine PI-algebras and homogeneous identities in terms of the representation theory of the general linear group GL. Through the theory of Kemer polynomials this edition shows that the techniques of finite dimensional algebras are available for all affine PI-algebras. It also emphasizes the Grassmann algebra as a recurring theme including in Rosset’s proof of the Amitsur–Levitzki theorem a simple example of a finitely based T-ideal the link between algebras and superalgebras and a test algebra for counterexamples in characteristic p. | Computational Aspects of Polynomial Identities Volume l Kemer's Theorems 2nd Edition

Word Aware 3 Teaching Vocabulary in Small Groups for Ages 6 to 11

Word Aware 3 is a comprehensive practical and engaging resource that focuses on teaching vocabulary and word learning skills to children aged 6 to 11 years who have vocabulary learning needs. For many children particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or those whose home language isn’t English (ELL or EAL learners) the vocabulary of the classroom can be a barrier to learning. This book outlines how to best support these children who require extra help offering concrete easy-to-implement activities and resources for use in small groups to maximise the impact on learning and open up access to the curriculum. Word Aware 3: Takes a highly practical evidence-based and curriculum-focused approach to vocabulary learning that supports a broad range of learners Includes photocopiable and downloadable planning intervention and evaluation resources Provides staff training resources and an overview video presented by the authors This book can be used as an adjunct to Word Aware 1 or as an intervention on its own. Although it is most suited to children aged 6 to 11 years it may be adapted for older students with significant learning needs. It is an essential resource for teaching assistants and learning support assistants and will also save time for special educational needs co-ordinators (SENCOs) and speech and language therapists (SaLTs) who are keen to establish effective vocabulary interventions. | Word Aware 3 Teaching Vocabulary in Small Groups for Ages 6 to 11

This title was first published in 2001. The eminent historian of Victorian Britain Walter L. Arnstein has over the course of a career spanning more than 40 years arguably introduced more students to British history than any other American historian. Nineteenth-century topics covered in the volume include early Victorian caricatures and the thin legal lines that they often trod; British Army fashion and its contribution to Royal spectacles; Free Trade Radicals and how they viewed educational reform and moral progress; the persistence of Chartist ideology following the failure of the movement in 1848; Disraeli and Derby's involvement with the Navy's administration; religious periodicals and their influence; the myth of Bismarck as an honest broker of peace and the subsequent collapse of the myth as a later source of enmity in Anglo-German relations; the powerful mystique evoked back in England by the London missionary societies Mongolian; missions; Victorian urban planning and the re-introduction of the market place. | Splendidly Victorian Essays in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century British History in Honour of Walter L.
