Latina Lives Latina Narratives Influential Essays by Vicki L. Ruiz

This book brings together the most influential and widely known writings of Vicki L. Ruiz a leading voice in the fields of Chicana/o Latina/o women’s and labor history. For nearly forty years Ruiz has produced scholarship that has provided the foundation for a rich and nuanced understanding of the ways in which Chicanas and Latinas negotiate the structures impinging on their everyday lives. From challenging familial patriarchal cultural norms building interethnic social networks in the neighborhood and workplace and organizing labor unions to fighting gender and racial discrimination in the courts at work in the schools and on the streets Ruiz’s studies have examined the countless struggles roadblocks and victories Chicanas and Latinas have faced in the twentieth century and beyond. The articles in this book are organized chronologically to reflect the evolution of Ruiz’s intellectual contributions as well as her commitment to integrating feminist history theory and methodology and show how she has generously offered insights reflections and humor in helping us define and shape who we are as mujeres Chicanas Latinas scholars teachers and mentors. With its narrative flow and engaging prose Ruiz’s scholarship connects with academic and public audiences and this collection fulfills a much-needed demand in the teaching of women’s Chicana/o Latina/o and labor history. | Latina Lives Latina Narratives Influential Essays by Vicki L. Genomes 5

Genomes 5

Genomes 5 has been completely revised and updated. It is a thoroughly modern textbook about genomes and how they are investigated. As with previous Genomes editions techniques come first then genome anatomies followed by genome function and finally genome evolution. The genomes of all types of organism are covered: viruses bacteria fungi plants and animals including humans and other hominids. Genome sequencing and assembly methods have been thoroughly revised to include new developments in long-read DNA sequencing. Coverage of genome annotation emphasizes genome-wide RNA mapping with CRISPR-Cas 9 and GWAS methods of determining gene function covered. The knowledge gained from these techniques forms the basis of the chapters that describe the three main types of genomes: eukaryotic prokaryotic (including eukaryotic organelles) and viral (including mobile genetic elements). Coverage of genome expression and replication is truly genomic concentrating on the genome-wide implications of DNA packaging epigenome modifications DNA-binding proteins non-coding RNAs regulatory genome sequences and protein-protein interactions. Also included are examples of the applications of metabolomics and systems biology. The final chapter is on genome evolution including the evolution of the epigenome using genomics to study human evolution and using population genomics to advance plant breeding. Established methods of molecular biology are included if they are still relevant today and there is always an explanation as to why the method is still important. Genomes 5 is the ideal text for upper-level courses focused on genomes and genomics. Key Features A highly accessible and well-structured book with chapters organized into four parts to aid navigation Superb artwork illustrates the key concepts and mechanisms Each chapter has a set of short-answer questions and in-depth problems to test the reader’s understanding of the material Thoroughly up to date with references to the latest research from the 2020s

Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program Grade 5

The Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program targets reading comprehension skills in high-ability learners by moving students through an inquiry process from basic understanding to critical analyses of texts using a field-tested method developed by the Center for Gifted Education at William & Mary. Students in grade 5 will learn to comprehend and analyze any reading passage after completing the activities in Jacob's Ladder Grade 5 (2nd ed. previously published as Level 3). Research conducted by the Center for Gifted Education with Title 1 students demonstrated that the Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program delivers results related to improved reading comprehension increased critical thinking and an enhanced interest in reading. Using skill ladders connected to short stories poetry essays and nonfiction students move from lower order concrete thinking skills to higher order critical thinking skills. The ladders include multiple skills necessary for academic success covering language arts standards such as sequencing determining cause and effect classifying inferencing and recognizing main ideas. The second edition of the book builds off the previous Level 3 edition including new readings and ladders for student use. This book provides teachers with an explanation of the nature of supplementary tasks that scaffold reading comprehension. Also included is an overview of the goals and objectives of the Jacob's Ladder tasks and suggestions for implementation giving every teacher the tools needed to promote successful reading comprehension. Optional Student Workbook PacksIn addition to this teacher's guide companion student workbooks are available for Poetry Short Stories and Nonfiction and Essays/Speeches. The student workbooks feature ample room for student responses and notes make reviewing and providing feedback on student work easier than ever provide students with an easy-to-use reference to use during discussions and save time as there is no need to reproduce student handouts. Computational Aspects of Polynomial Identities Volume l Kemer's Theorems 2nd Edition

Computational Aspects of Polynomial Identities Volume l Kemer's Theorems 2nd Edition

Computational Aspects of Polynomial Identities: Volume l Kemer’s Theorems 2nd Edition presents the underlying ideas in recent polynomial identity (PI)-theory and demonstrates the validity of the proofs of PI-theorems. This edition gives all the details involved in Kemer’s proof of Specht’s conjecture for affine PI-algebras in characteristic 0. The book first discusses the theory needed for Kemer’s proof including the featured role of Grassmann algebra and the translation to superalgebras. The authors develop Kemer polynomials for arbitrary varieties as tools for proving diverse theorems. They also lay the groundwork for analogous theorems that have recently been proved for Lie algebras and alternative algebras. They then describe counterexamples to Specht’s conjecture in characteristic p as well as the underlying theory. The book also covers Noetherian PI-algebras Poincaré–Hilbert series Gelfand–Kirillov dimension the combinatoric theory of affine PI-algebras and homogeneous identities in terms of the representation theory of the general linear group GL. Through the theory of Kemer polynomials this edition shows that the techniques of finite dimensional algebras are available for all affine PI-algebras. It also emphasizes the Grassmann algebra as a recurring theme including in Rosset’s proof of the Amitsur–Levitzki theorem a simple example of a finitely based T-ideal the link between algebras and superalgebras and a test algebra for counterexamples in characteristic p. | Computational Aspects of Polynomial Identities Volume l Kemer's Theorems 2nd Edition
