Here’s – perhaps – the compromise.     This fabric has a light fastness of around 50%, giving you the best of both worlds: Some light and heat are kept out, but you still have a sense of the morning outside your window.     The fabric has a coarsely woven front side and a light back side. Choose the shade that fits your bedroom.     Missing anything else for your curtains?   Search for “Curtain Accessories” and find everything you need for your new blackout curtains.     Good to know about blackout curtains  When sewing your blackout curtain fabric, it's important to note that the needle can leave small holes in your material. Once the curtain is hung, these will appear as tiny points of light in the seams. Cotton satin mint/dusty sand strip

Cotton satin - the best of both worldsHow about trying our soft cotton fabric in a range of beautiful colours for your next creative project. It's soft and comfortable to work with.Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven. This means that when we say cotton satin, it has the same beautiful weave as more 'classic' satin, while the cotton quality gives a more matt finish to the fabric.  And what can you use cotton satin for? Well, that’s entirely up to you. We prefer using it for bed linen. The natural material of the cotton in the delicate satin weave makes for some really lovely home made bed linen. As with so many other cottons, it is also suitable for clothing. Cotton is comfortable to wear and the fine weave gives it a nice finish - for a summer shirt or skirt, for example. Cotton satin is also perfect for a tablecloth for the table. Sew the tablecloth yourself or select "Sew as a tablecloth" and we will sew it for you (click on the text for details). Practical information about cotton satinMade from 100% cotton, it's soft and fluffy and, as always, you buy the fabric by the metre, so you get exactly the length you need. You can wash it at 60° and iron at medium heat - but avoid the tumble dryer; let it air dry instead. TIP: Finish your seams properly - satin tends to fray a lot. You could also consider using a wider seam allowance to secure your seams or use overlock stitching. As always - test your seams on a scrap piece beforehand to see which technique works best for your piece of fabric. Sew Feather-Light Curtains  Voile is perfect for light and airy, feather-light curtains for the home and summerhouse. This fabric is slightly coarser and more transparent than regular voile, yet still classic and luxurious.     With voile curtains, you get the best of both worlds: You enjoy the outside light, while simultaneously protecting your carpets and furniture from discolouration due to the sun's rays. Choose from several colours, and sew, for instance, a long design to wear over the bikini at the beach, or a shorter version to wear with shorts and summer trousers.     What is voile?  Voile is a light and airy fabric, characterised by its fine, soft texture and lightweight, making it suitable for summer clothing and feather-light curtains.     This fabric is made from 50% cotton and 50% polyester and can be purchased by the metre.     What is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®?  OEKO-TEX® is the world's leading health label for textiles.   When the fabric is certified according to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, it's your guarantee that it has been tested and approved and contains no harmful chemicals.  

Javana batik dye sand 70g

Create your unique textiles with batik dying. Batik textile dyes are best used on cotton, viscose, linen, half panama, silk, wool, or polyamide. The screw-cap container contains 70 g of dye powder. Take what you need, mix it in accordance with the instructions, and save the rest for later. The more pigment you add, the stronger your colours become. Use 70 g of dye powder per 200g of fabric for strong colouration. Use 70 grs of poweder per 400 g of fabric for a less intense colouration. This batik textile dye paint is suitable for various dyeing techniques, e.g. tie-dye and dip-dye. Always wash the fabric before starting to paint. Fill a bucket or tub with very hot water (95°C), enough to cover your fabric. Add your dye and stir until completely dissolved. Then immerse the damp fabric in the colour bath. NB: Make sure that the dye is completely dissolved before you add the fabric. If not, the results will be spotty or uneven. Leave the fabric to soak for no more than one hour . Rinse your fabric with hot water. Batik dyes do not tolerate high temperatures. Wash your dyed fabric at max 40°C. Wash separately the first time. NB: To enhance the colours and prevent them for wearing off, we recommend you use our Javana fixing agent. Without fixing agent, the dyes will soon wash out.

Organic 1x1 rib cotton, sand

It's a natural material that lets your skin breathe, and it's comfortable to work with when you're sewing. Find your favourites among the many different colours - mix and match, or go all in on your favourite colour. You buy the fabric by the metre, so you can get just the length you need. Rib is a good choice for your sewing projectRib fabric in 1x1 is a soft piece of fabric knitted with a fine and uniform structure that makes it perfect for a wide variety of DIY projects. Use it for tops, t-shirts and leggings for both children and adults. The quality is unmistakable - it's soft and just the right amount of stretch to make cotton great to work with and wear. The FabricThe rib fabric is knitted and made of 97% organic cotton and 3% elastane. It is 145 cm wide and you should expect it to shrink approximately 6% in the wash. We recommend that you wash the fabric before starting to pattern, cut and sew to ensure the best result matching the right size. Please remember to use jersey needles (item no. 46799 or 46028) when sewing in rib fabric. OrganicThe products labelled organic consist of minimum 95% organic material. Woven viscose sand

Light, colourful and a beautiful drape! Viscose is a popular fabric for many fashion designs. It's a light and soft material with good breathability, while also being comfortable to wear.  The beautiful drape is especially pronounced in tops, dresses, and shirts, where even with the simplest designs, you achieve a stylish look. The design is up to you: Does the shirt need a small collar? The top a boat neck? Or are you into ruched details?  That being said, viscose is also well-suited for light trousers. We prefer them with a bit of width in the legs, so you once again benefit from the lovely drape.  Choose from many stunning colours.  What is viscose? Viscose has been used for clothing for over 100 years. The fabric consists of processed and regenerated cellulose, for example from wood pulp or cotton waste. It resembles natural fibres like cotton and silk.  Some practicalities The fabric is 100% viscose, is 130 cm wide, and you can of course choose the length you need. Wash at 40°C, iron at medium heat, and allow to air dry. Expect 5% shrinkage after washing.  Remember to use the right needles – we recommend using a universal needle or a microtex needle in size 70. 

Polar fleece sand

The loveliest projects in fleeceFind your favourite colour and start creating your new project! Polar fleece is light, soft and stretchy - a great material that also insulates. That means it's perfect for lining a jacket or a nice, fluffy vest, for example. This is how easy it is to make a fleece blanketChoose the colour and cut the blanket to the exact size you want and voila: you have a new fleece blanket. It doesn't get any easier than this. And yes - it's good enough - you don't need to sew the edges; the material won't run. If you want to give your rug a nice finish with a sewn edge, we recommend using jersey needles, which are specially developed for qualities like this. They penetrate the fabric easily without leaving holes. Or how about making a reversible blanket or vest with two different colours of fleece - double up on warmth, softness and use. Fleece dries quickly, is robust and durable and therefore very easy to bring along, for example as extra blankets in the caravan. Practical information about polar fleeceThe fabric is 145 cm wide and you buy it by the metre, so you get the length you need. Fleece is not just fleeceWith micro fleece you have the very fine fleece quality. The one where the structure is soft, dense and smooth. It opens up a range of exciting DIY possibilities from clothing to home decor. What should I use micro fleece for?With micro fleece, you can dial down the classic fleece look without having to compromise on all of the familiar qualities: the fabric is still soft, lightweight and stretchy. It insulates well and has been given an anti-pilling treatment meaning that it's virtually lint-free. Furthermore it's tough and dries quickly. Use the fabric for a comfy fleece jacket or vest, for example, where the heat-insulating effect really comes in handy on cold days. Or make a cool loungewear set in your favourite colour. The legs are too long, the sleeves too wide, and that small pocket for the key is missing. You can solve this by designing and sewing your own rainwear! Choose, for instance, this exquisite rainwear quality, which is soft, fabric-like and sporty in its expression. It has a membrane on the back, making it perfect for all weather conditions – and suitable for both children and adults. The quality is wind and waterproof with a water column pressure of 7,000 mm and good breathability of 3,000 mm. Sew smart rainwear This material is naturally suited for classic rainwear that you can adjust to your exact size. However, the fabric-like surface also makes it especially suitable for a neat waterproof coat or perhaps an all-in-one suit with a tie belt at the waist? Alternatively, you can use this fabric as the backside for a picnic blanket, ensuring everyone sits dry and comfortable – even if it's rained in the past few days or the dew has set in. Keep your project waterproof by using the right seams: Search for "seam tape for rainwear fabric" and find a free guide. About water column pressure Water column pressure indicates the height of a water column the material can withstand before water begins to penetrate. The higher the water column pressure, the more waterproof. A good rule of thumb is that +2,000 mm is suitable for light rain showers/short trips in the rain, while +5,000 is for a heavier rain shower or a few hours in light rain. If you're out in heavy rain, we recommend +8,000 mm. Lovely, high-quality thread made of 100 % polyester. The thread has high elasticity. It is core spun, which means that it is compact and durable, and sheds little fibre. You can use it for backstitch but it's also great for larger projects sewn on an overlocker. The 1000-metre spool is efficient on a sewing machine. You can use it for a long time without having to re-thread your machine. The sewing thread is OEKO-TEX 100 certified and available in a sea of beautiful colours.

And this corduroy is perfect for the purpose. It contains wide ridges (8 Wales) and is made from 100% cotton, so it is comfortable to wear and breathable. Velvet is hardwearing and suitable for both clothing and creative projects for the home. Velvet for you - and your home! You decide what you want to sew. There are of course the classic corduroy trousers, but it could also be a nice shirt-dress, a cool spencer or maybe a smaller project like a lovely bucket hat? And when it comes to home-ware: How about sewing some velvet cushions for the sofa? Or you can use velvet to make the coolest shopper or belt bag. Find your favourite colours and get started with scissors, needle and thread!   Velvet is sold by the metre, so simply order the length you need. The width is 140 cm and the fabric shrinks about 3% in the wash.   Remember to use the right needles - we recommend a size 80 universal needle.  What is Wales? Wales indicates the width of the raised ridges in the velvet that defines the velvety texture of the fabric. A low Wales indicates wide ridges i.e. less ridges per inch. On the other hand, a high Wales indicates narrow ridges. For example velvet with 4 Wales per inch has wide ridges and will feel heavier, while velvet with 21 Wales per inch has narrow ridges and will feel finer. What is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®?
