Kings and Queens Bulb Collection

Kings and Queens Bulb Collection

Stately and regal spring blooms that are tough and hardy to plant now and survive through the bitter winter months. Introduce royalty to your garden with the 'Kings and Queens' Bulb Collection.Witness an incredible contrast in colour by planting this whole collection as one display, as the bright golden-yellow flowers of 'King Alfred' and orange Crown Imperials really standout against the near black 'Queen of the Night' tulips. These blooms even emerge on long and strong stems, so are just waiting to be snipped and included in fresh cut flower vase displays, bringing a splash of nature into the home.Enjoy this excellent collection that includes:20 x Narcissus 'King Alfred' bulbs, size 10/12: There's something so regal about the 'King of Daffodils'. These golden-yellow flowers are spring staples, with flowers that each stretch up to 10cm wide and boast a classic trumpet-like shape.20 x Tulip 'Queen of the Night' bulbs, size 10/11: Eye-catching and unique tulips with deep purple flowers that are almost black. The rich petals are glossy, forming blooms that rise upright on high stems from plants of green foliage.2 x Crown Imperial bulbs, size 20/24: Fritillaria imperialis, affectionately known as Crown Imperials due to the crown-like whorl of leaves that top bright orange, downward-facing blooms. A unique fragrance is produced by this spring flowerer, which is handy for repelling mice, moles, and other rodents. Proud holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.Supplied as a mixed collection of 42 bulbs, ready for autumn planting.

Tree Fern Dicksonia antarctica

Tree Fern Dicksonia antarctica

Tree ferns were a firm plant hunter's favourite in Victorian times, a symbol of wealth and travel experiences to Australia. They have even maintained a sense of mystique ever since. Now you too can grow these surprisingly easy exotic-looking plants too.Harvested under strict license from woodland clearance in Australia and Tasmania, and in very short supply this season, these astonishing plants really will delight and amaze. They grow under the woodland canopy, in the shade, so grow them here in a sheltered spot too. When you water them via the top crown, they will burst back into life, as if it's the new rainy season! Because they grow in leaf canopies, most of their food comes from leaves falling into their giant shuttlecock like fronds, funnelling the goodness into the growing crown. Feed and water this crown - rainwater is best if you can collect it.Even at this size of log, new fronds will unfurl spectacularly within a month or so of you watering it. The plant is hardy in conditions down to -5 in winter, although the fronds will die back. Cutting these off when they die back is what creates the new trunk, which slowly inches up over many, many years. Keep the crown protected in winter with a layer of straw to keep cold and wet out. When you get it home, plant it in a big pot, or in the garden soil. It takes 1-2 years to root in, so do not be alarmed by this slow growing beauty.Supplied as a 20cm potter log ready for immediate potting up.
