Trio No. 3, Op. 51

Trio No. 3, Op. 51

Based on source material from the archive of the Netherlands Music Institute in The Hague, this newly-engraved reconstruction of the Trio No. 3, Op. 51 by Benoit Tranquille Berbiguier for Three Flutes includes a full score and all three parts. Berbiguier is primarily known for his methods and small ensembles for flutes composed during and after his education at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris. The original edition from the archives, published by French publisher Janet & Cotelle, c. 1820, contains only three parts with no score. While the original aim was to assemble a full score while recreating the individual parts faithfully, editorial decisions were made throughout tocorrect many serious inconsistencies between the parts, especially regarding articulations and dynamics, and even including differences in tempo markings. The resulting standardized, consistent editions should allow students and teachers more effective – and more efficient – learning and instruction. Trio No. 3, Op. 51 is in three movements: Allegro risoluto, Andantino, Poco vivo (Rondo). Divertimento

Divertimento

Divertimento is an original trio by Arthur Frackenpohl that was written at the request of a trio for a senior flute recital at the Crane School of Music. The first movement, Introduction, is in sonata form with two contrasting themes, closing section, short development and recapitulation. In the second movement, Passacaglia, the dorian theme is stated canonically, with variations on the eight bar theme and closing in quietly in the minor. The third movement is a lively Scherzo with a rhythmic first section employing some echo effects before moving into a more subdued and legato trio. The final movement is an energetic Fughetta, which uses the contrapuntal devices ofinversion, augmentation and stretto. Each movement can be played by itself, or in combination with the other movements. Divertimento No. 2

Divertimento No. 2

Divertimento No. 2 was composed in 2016 to showcase Flute Street, a Toronto-based, professional flute ensemble in which Isaac's mother, Carolyn Ricketts, is a founding member. Flute Street first performed the work that November in Toronto and then, because of its generous attention to the melodic possibilities of the alto, bass and contrabass flute colours, chose to premiere it in Reston, Virginia (U.S.A.) at the First International Low Flutes Festival in April 2018. The composer notes "As with my other Divertimenti, this work deals with how similar elements can create contrast. The homogeneous timbre of the flute choir is used in this work to highlight the formal contrasts thatare at play. Structured in an arch form, the work starts with a complex harmonic language that gradually simplifies. As the harmonic language simplifies, the accompaniment becomes more complex."
