Paul Chihara: Piano Trio (Piano/Violin/Cello)

An American of Japanese descent, Chihara is a professor of music at the University of California at Los Angeles. His interest in Oriental music is apparent in his music, and he frequently utilises the techniques of altered vibrato, limited pitch movement, microtones and electronically modified sounds. He has also composed scores for over 90 films and television series. This Trio was composed in 1974 and dedicated to the Mirecourt Trio; this edition features a full score for the Piano and two integrated Violin/Cello parts for ease of performance.

Brights Sheng: Four Movements For Piano Trio

'Four Movements For Piano Trio' is based on musical materials from 'My Song', a work by Sheng for solo Piano, composed in 1988 which attempted to combine his background in Oriental classical and folk music with Western classical music. These four movements extend that idea in the framework of the Piano trio. The first movement is folkloric, heterophonic and prelude-like, the second relates more directly to source materia, being based on a humourous folk-song from Se-Tsuan. The third movement is a savage dance based on sequences, and the last is lovely and nostalgic.

Beethoven: Piano Trio In B Flat 'Archduke' Op.97 (Score)

This work is universally and perhaps more commonly known as the 'Archduke' Trio because it is dedicated to the composer's patron Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven actually considered the Piano Trio in B flat, Op. 97, to be among his finest works. The critics obviously agreed with him, as the 'Archduke' is now hailed as the most popular piece of late Classical Piano trios, and the piece which finally elevated the Violin and Cello to a status equal to that of the Piano.

Ernst Krenek: Trio For Violin, Clarinet And Piano (Score/Parts)

Born in Vienna in 1900, Krenek moved to the United States just before World War II and became a citizen there in 1945, moving with ease through the various aesthetic and stylistic changes that marked that turbulent century, taking what he considered the best features of each and fusing them into a new language all his own. This Trio was written in 1946 but not published until 1955; it is dramatic yet witty. It was long out of print but has returned due to popular demand.

W.A.Mozart: 'Kegelstatt' Trio For Clarinet, Viola And Piano K.498 (Score/Parts)

The nickname derives from the story that Mozart wrote this work while partaking in a game of skittles. 'Kegelstatt' = Skittle Alley. The Clarinet part can be replaced by a Violin. The score is dated August 5, 1786, and the work is extremely dense and cerebral, and many believe it to be hardly the outcome of any frivolous diversion.
