Despite Simon’s intention to make it a tribute to traditional American heroes, it had already become synonymous with Anne Bancroft’s married seductress of the film. This delightful piece of chamber music is originally scored for Woodwind quartet (Oboe, Flute, Bb Clarinet, Bassoon), however the Oboe part may be played on a 2nd Clarinet and the Bassoon part on a Violoncello. Duration: about 5 min., 45 sec. Sir Richard Rodney Bennett was an English composer of film, TV and concert music, and also a jazz pianist. He was based in New York City from 1979 until his death there in 2012. Bennett produced over two hundred works for the concert hall, and fifty scores for film and television.

During his lifetime, he was one of Britain’s most respected and versatile composers, remaining fresh and popular throughout his long life and after his death. He wrote over 200 works for the concert hall and 50 scores for film and television. He was knighted for services to music in 1998.

During his long career, Harvey was bass clarinet of the Scottish National Orchestra, freelanced in London for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and many West End musicals, as well as performing on many film and television recording sessions. He was co-founder and leader of the Londong Saxophone Quartet and Professor of Clarinet at the Royal Military School of Music. He has been recognized for his contributions to the world of the clarinet.
