This is volume 12 of Duke Ellington The Treasure Shows Jerry Valburn is the producer of the DETS series which will result in 24 double Cd's at its completion. It contains Treasury Broadcast 22 recorded September 8, 1945 and Treasury Broadcast September 15, 1945 plus a Broadcast from the New Zanzibar New York recorded October 1, 1945. This is first time the music is released on CD. The repertoire consists mostly of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn compositions. The Rogers and Hammerstein hit If I Love You is an arrangement by Billy Strayhorn who plays piano the vocal by Kay Davis. Emancipation Celebration from Ellington's suite Black, Brown and Beige has fine solo work from Rex Stewart. The double CD contains 35 numbers/120 minutes and many fine solos played by the famous Duke Ellington musicians.

After a successful concert tour in Iceland and a trip to China where she performed At the Danish Pavilion at Expo as well as several gigs in both Beijing and Shanghai, Cathrine Legardh and her band has returned to Denmark. On May 27th her long awaited second album, "NorDisk" was issued on the venerable Storyville label.Legardh sings exclusively in Danish and Swedish on this album, which consists of jazz and Nordic songs of new and older origin - including ballads and standards. She sing songs from the Swedish vocalist Monica Zetterlund's repertoire. Monica became world famous when she recorded Waltz for Debby with Bill Evans Trio. 3 of the 12 songs on this album are Cathrine's compositions.

Clarence Williams (1893 - 1965) was an American jazz musician, who tried his hand (successfully) in almost all spheres of the music industry: he was known as a pianist, composer, promoter, vocalist, theatrical producer, and publisher. Having run away from home at age 12 to join a travelling show, he settled in New Orleans and became a well-regarded entertainer, while also composing new songs. After touring as a musician, he started a music publishing company and a record label, producing and participating in early recordings by Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Bessie Smith, Virginia Liston, Irene Scruggs, and many others. The Clarence Williams Collection – Volume 3 covers Williams' prolific output from 1929-30. Transferred and re-mastered by John R.T. Davis, the sound quality is outstanding.

15 of the tunes on this CD were recorded in Copenhagen in 1974, 12 of which were originally released on LP. In addition, there are two live numbers from 1997, making a total of 17 tunes on this 56-min. CD. Sammy Rimington is an English clarinetist who plays in the best George Lewis/John Handy New Orleans tradition. On both sessions on this CD, Rimington is solidly backed by the prominent Danish Dixieland drummer Søren ?Doc? Houlind. There is a wonderful variety of music performed on this CD, including ancient New Orleans classics like John Handy?s ?Cap?s Blues?, French gypsy jazz guitar master Django Reinhardt?s ?Nuages?, popular tunes like ?Red Sails In the Sunset?, and religious songs like ?An Evening Prayer?. The intense drive and outstanding musicianship on this CD is a joy to hear ? it is New Orleans music at its best.

These are two authentic bluesmen ? each with his own personal, unique style. Both Snooks Eaglin & Boogie Bill Webb grew up in New Orleans. Snooks Eaglin is a master musician and unique guitar genius. His style is intensely rhythmic as well as loose and casual - at the same time. Boogie Bill Webb has a refreshingly rough "downhome" style that sets him apart from mainstream New Orleans rhythm & blues. Besides original compositions, Eaglin also performs tunes by Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Freddy King and Chuck Berry; Webb performs originals and a tune by Little Walter. This is the real blues performed by two exciting and unique bluesmen, each with a very distinctive and different style; the CD is particularly important because of the very few recordings available with Boogie Bill Webb.

With this new 2003 recording (12 tunes/56 min.), Ole "Fessor" Lindgreen is disbanding his Big City Band after a 35-year European success story. Never content with the limitations of traditional jazz, Fessor once again makes wonderful music on this CD in his explorations of musical styles including old blues, bebop, Caribbean, Afro-Cuban and modern New Orleans rhythm & blues. Basically a "modern" traditional jazz band, the music on this CD includes a classic modern jazz composition by Charles Mingus, a basic Leadbelly blues, a sweet love song by Ivory Joe Hunter, some modern New Orleans r & b tunes and six Fessor originals.The band is made up of top Danish professionals, including both new and old Big City Band members, plus three guest artists. Violinist Kristian Jørgensen, clarinetist "Nulle " Nykjær and organist Kjeld Lauritsen are the guest soloists on the CD, making the exciting Big City Band's music even more of a pleasure to hear. The tunes average 5-6 minutes in length, giving the soloists plenty of time to really get in the groove. This is the most untraditional trad jazz you're ever going to hear - a fitting finale for Ole Lindgreen's Big City Band.

This 57-minute CD (12 tunes) includes four numbers that have never previously been released. The recording (originally released on Metronome and later on a Storyville CD) was made in the recording studio in Copenhagen in 1965. The four extra tunes are from a radio broadcast the same year, with a different rhythm group. Besides Svend Asmussen, both sessions also feature another major jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli, who first played with Asmussen in 1938. The musical material consists of popular swing standards by Duke Ellington, Fats Waller and George Gershwin, among others, plus one be-bop tune by Bud Powell.Svend Asmussen plays here with all the elegance, charm and perfection that have been the trademark of his music for many, many years. Two of the top jazz violin-pros in the business, Grappelli and Asmussen obviously enjoy each other?s playing and respect each other as musicians. The music swings like mad, not least of all thanks to a fantastic Danish rhythm section, led by bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and drummer William Schiøpffe. Listening to this CD is guaranteed to put you in a good mood!
