Orion Indigo : for Unaccompanied Soprano Saxophone

This work for unaccompanied soprano saxophone was written at the request of British star saxophonist Amy Dickson, who requested several composer friends write short works in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Much like his saxophone concerto Rush, this work is written using materials from Fuchs' 1988 musical The Great Nebula in Orion, though it is filtered through Duke Ellington's Mood Indigo. Fuchs dedicates this work in honor of her COVID-19 Solo Sessions.

John Farrar: You're The One That I Want (Grease)

You can sing the part of John Travolta or Olivia Newton-John, or have half the choir doing each part. This is a memorable song that will add some fun to any concert, and is great for choirs starting out, as I'm sure everyone remembers the tune, if not all the words!

Alchymist's Journal, The (Brass Band Cd)

This new Leyland Band release features seven first-time recordings including 'The Alchymist?s Journal' by Kenneth Hesketh and 'Four Sketches' by Simon Dobson - the winning entry in the 2002 European Brass Band Composer Competition. Soloist James Gourlay performs the brass band arrangement of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Tuba Concerto. Other works included are 'Global Variations' and 'Thames Journey' by Nigel Hess, 'RPM' and 'Headbanger' by Matthew Hindson, 'Peterloo' by Malcolm Arnold and the comical encore piece 'Keystone Kops' by Carl Davis.

Giles Swayne: Zebra Music

Giles Swayne's Zebra Music comprises twelve pieces written to be suitable for the junior contemporary Piano student, offering new music ideas to younger players. As the title suggests, the music is written in 'layers' of black and white keys: one hand may be playing the black keys while the other hand plays the white; or both may be on white, or both on black - only the final piece mixes the colours. By combining these simple modes with exciting and unusual rhythms, Swayne produces a sense of global style within acessible pieces.

Very Thought Of You, The

Ray Noble (1903-1978) was a composer and bandleader, working in the golden age of British dance music - the 1920’s and 30’s. His 1934 classic, The Very Thought Of You , for which Noble wrote both the music and the lyrics, is considered by many to be his signature tune. Its global fame has been helped by the numerous covers and re-recordings, most notably by Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Franck Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Paul McCartney. This classic song has been transcribed for Piano, Voice, and Guitar, with Boxed Chord symbols for easy use.

Benjamin Britten: Six Early Songs

2013 marks the centenary of Benjamin Britten?s birth and major celebrations are planned across the world, making this the widest ever global celebration of a British composer. The previously unpublished Six Early Songs were written during the composer?s schooldays, whilst he was studying with Frank Bridge. But even at this tender age, Britten already had such accomplished works as Quatre Chansons Francaises under his belt. The songs on the one hand display Britten?s school-boyish imagination (witches, owls and moths), while on the other show a more brooding side, not to mention confident piano writing and an innate understanding of vocal drama. Previously unpublished, these six songs are an important new addition to the solo song repertory.

Carsten Dahl: A Good Time

Carsten Dahl is known for his work as jazz oriented pianist, but he is a musician and composer that moves unimpeded from the bebop tradition via completely free improvisation to classical music. Carsten Dahl is, without a doubt, among this century's greatest pianists. Solo piano is very important to Dahl , a challenge where he finds the greatest potential to work with space and time, to create music that relates to the moment. It’s for his two solo albums that he’s received the DMA Jazz Prize for Best Record in 2004 and 2011. Here he takes inspiration from both classical pianist Glenn Gould and jazz pianists like Keith Jarrett , Bill Evans and Bud Powell; cultivating improvisation in extreme situations. There are also clear inspirations from contemporary music and different world regions and folk music - one of very few people able to bring together many global inspirations into one comprehensive personal expression with a clear artistic signature. A Good Time , by Carsten Dahl , features 8 tracks by the Piano master.

The present collection is around the idea of paying homage to the people that each piece is dedicated to. El Colibrí (Hummingbird): A meaningful bird within Central American indigenous mythology. Dedicated to my good friend and co-author Federico Sheppard, a very special human being with whom I have walked a long journey in a short time, to produce and publish the work of the great Agustín Barrios Mangoré. El Faro refers to the guidance of a lighthouse for the those navigating the sea, the light to point travellers in the right direction. This piece is dedicated to maestro Antonio Rodríguez Delgado, for his unconditional friendship, light, and guidance with the complex journey of our beloved instrument, so that it be used as a tool for self realization. Gratitude is dedicated to maestro Elias Barreiro for his tireless work and contribution to the global guitar practices, additionally, for his genuine friendship. Canción de Cuna is a piece that pretends to reflect the awakening of a new consciousness for humanity, the title (Lullaby) refers to the little person we all have inside.

Secret Garden: You Raise Me Up (10th Anniversary Edition)

You Raise Me Up, written by Secret Garden?s Rolf Løvland and Irish novelist Brendan Graham, achieved its unique success mainly through being recorded by so many artists ? around 150 of them to date. Originally intended as an instrumental entitled ?Silent Story? Løvland?s melody only acquired lyrics after the Norwegian composer invited Graham ? whose novels he knew ? to turn it into a song for Secret Garden?s 2002 album Once In A Red Moon. It was sung on the album by Irish vocalist Brian Kennedy and although it enjoyed some success in both Ireland and Norway, the song?s eventual path to legendary status only began when Josh Groban took it to the number one spot on Billboard?s Adult Contemporary Chart in 2004. Groban performed the song at several high-profile events in the US (including Super Bowl XXXVIII, Oprah Winfrey's 50th birthday celebration, and on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where he was accompanied by the African Children's Choir). Westlife raised the song?s profile further when they made it the debut single from their album, Face To Face. It was to become an all-purpose inspirational anthem featured at everything from the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize concert to series 4 of The X-Factor in the UK. Daniel O?Donnell, Aled Jones, Katherine Jenkins, Il Divo, Russell Watson and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir have now all performed it, helping to turn Løvland and Graham?s uplifting song into a global phenomenon and a 21st century classic.

Sadie Harrison: Dast be Dast

Dast be Dast ('Hand to hand in friendship') was commissioned by Cuatro Puntos, a pioneering ensemble of chamber musicians dedicated to global cooperation and peace through the writing and performance of new music worldwide. The piece was written specifically for their violist Kevin Bishop, and for Rubab player, Samim Zafar, a student of the extraordinary Afghanistan National Institute for Music (ANIM) in Kabul. Kevin suggested that the piece should represent the two distinct but equal musical cultures of the performers, and as such both players are required to adopt characteristics of each other's traditions, both techniques and languages. Dast be Dast illuminates various aspects of Afghan and Western music-making, with both instruments exploring improvisation alongside notation, controlled imitation with spontaneous elaboration, and Western tonality within Afghan scales. The piece is based on three Afghan songs each heard clearly in the three movements which are played without a break: I Anar Anar (Pomegranates): a fast song where the two instruments imitate each other, gradually becoming more and more elaborate. II Allah Hu (This is God): a meditative movement for solo viola based on a specific interpretation of Allah Hu sung as a lullaby by Veronica Doubleday in 2004. III Watan Jan (Dear Homeland): based on a whirling atan dance in 7/8. Gradually getting faster and faster the players have to keep up with each other's virtuosity. The work was premiered by Samim and Kevin on 23 June 2014 at ANIM, Kabul, Afghanistan.The work is dedicated to them both with admiration.
