Released in 1994, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is the second studio album by the American indie rock band Pavement. The album saw the band move away from the lo-fi sound of their debut and move towards a more accessible rock style.The album was a UK Top 20 hit upon its release and the band enjoyed moderate success with the single 'Cut Your Hair'. Bluesman Magic Slim had a slow career start in Chicago, playing clubs and making a few singles in the 1960s and early 1970s. It was to be the now classic first album Born On A Bad Sign that would make Magic Slim and The Teardrops famous. It was recorded live in 1976 in Ma Bea’s Club, Chicago, for the French MCM label run by Marcelle Morgantini. This superb reissue shows exactly why it has endured as the definitive Magic Slim album.

The welcome reissue of this album offers a rich example of Sonny Boy ’s range of musical emotion, from rage through tenderness to sometimes unexpected humour.

Big-voiced Big Bill Broonzy was a Fiddle-player who left the South in 1920 for Chicago. There, after learning Guitar, he would play a major role in the urbanization of blues music. At the end of the 1940s he switched back to his original folk/blues style and started touring, often abroad. In Denmark he recorded this definitive album, fully exploiting his sudden freedom to sing political songs that were frowned upon back in the US.

This historic live album was recorded at the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen on November 15, 1963 and featured saxophonists Archie Shepp and John Tchicai, trumpeter Don Cherry, bassist Don Moore and drummer JC Moses. The distinctive style of contemporary jazz the quintet played was already familiar in New York but welcomed as refreshing and innovative in Europe and Scandinavia. This performance was recorded on the final night before the group split up and its members returned to the US with only Archie Shepp remaining in Denmark.

Bud Powell was a jazz pianist of rare talent, perhaps unique in his ability to inject vocal inflections into his improvisational playing. He reached a peak by the late 1940s although sadly by the 1950s he seemed to be succumbing to the mental illness that had plagued him all his life. Unexpectedly his career had a sporadic revival after he moved to France in 1959. Cared for by a friend, Bud Powell still proved capable of giving performances occasionally as brilliantly fluent as his finest from the 1940s. One of these performances were immortalized on this recording from Jazzhus Montmartre in 1962.
